    Haley to be next OC.....

Also just heard on Mike & Mike, that the decision IS final, and Haley will be the OC.
People are for reviews if it backs their argument, and against them when they don't.

The Wallace saga starts as we're still 11 mil over the cap. I get that having two first round picks is nice, even if it's a late pick, but I don't want Wallace to go.

Although if we do, it has happened before, and it'll be next man up.

Unless he comes back for the veteran minimum, thanks for the years Hines.

        Steelers released WR Hines Ward.
A 14-year Steeler, four-time Pro Bowler, and the franchise's all-time leader in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns, Ward's separation skills have vanished and he is no longer quick enough to be a productive slot receiver. The Steelers may have considered trying to redo Ward's contract because of his decorated history, but ultimately the opportunity to keep Mike Wallace ranked much higher on the organization's priorities. At age 36, Ward will struggle to generate interest on the open market. He may have to settle for a one-year contract for the veteran's minimum in order to keep playing football. Feb 29 - 5:25 PM

Sad to see Ward go, but not unexpected. His productivity has dropped off the past couple years as he has struggled to stay healthy and he had fallen to the #3 or 4 spot on the depth chart. Steelers need the money to keep Wallace.

I love Farrior, but the writing is on the wall. He is a hell of a leader, but has become a liability in pass coverage. He's our signal caller on defense, a big responsibility for whomever would take over for him.

SteelersDepot has a good article up with a quote from his agent. I wouldn't be surprised if Kemo was next.

Kemoeatu is gone as well as Aaron Smith. Smith is a great player but just hasn't been able to stay healthy. Kemoeatu . . . pffft.

Reports: Steelers To Release Smith, Kemoeatu

PITTSBURGH -- Defensive end Aaron Smith and offensive lineman Chris Kemoeatu became the Steelers' latest veteran casualties Thursday, with several teammates and reports citing their releases.

Sad to see Hines go, last guy left from when I first started watching the Steelers, but with the way this season went it makes sense to let him go, he was barely even an option and was basically the fifth guy after Sanders and Cotchery came back from their injuries. And when you consider Heath Miller he was like the sixth option. Farrior is gonna be tough to replace but I think its a good move letting him go, I think Stevenson Sylvester is ready and even if he's not, he and Foote can split some time, if Foote is even back next year. Lawrence Timmons is ready to take over the signal calling as well I think. Sad to see Smith go, loved the guy, but with all the injuries he's basically just become a risk. Glad to see Penaltyoatu go, he's a bum, only thing he was ever good for was pulling and Legurksy does it just fine.

I think we'll see Sepulveda gone too, although they might give him another training camp, I think Kapinos has proven himself well over the past two years.

Strong news that Mendy is going to be gone, along with Gay visiting a couple teams. No news on the Wallace front is making me antsy, especially with the big signing of Manning.

Yeah, I saw that too. Also saying that he likely won't be ready for the start of 2012 and he may not even be able to play at all. At least we've got Redman who will hopefully continue to develop. And if Baron Batch is able to come back and continue to show the potential the coaches saw in him before he got hurt last year, we should be ok. As for Wallace, I think the fact that anyone who signs Wallace would have to give the Steelers a 1st round pick makes it less likely that he leaves.

In other news, Hines Ward is supposed to address the media at noon today. Wondering if he's going to announce his retirement?

Yep, was a good press conference. He mainly thanked Steeler Nation. Surprised he didn't mention Cowher.

Apparently we're getting three 7th round picks due to compensation(Spaeth, Eason, Fox). The Steelers now have four 7th round picks.

The Steelers had a good draft. While I question the Spence pick, we picked up two starting linemen. It remains to be seen what Rainey will do, with the log jam at HB.

Yeah, that Spence pick confuses me. It they ran 4-3, he would be fine in the third round at OLB. He seems like he might be a nickel LB. I just can't see a guy that small getting on the field at LB in a 3-4.

                            And he is "that small."

I read on another forum people defending him saying he is only 1 5/8" to 2 5/8" shorter than the rest of the linebackers on the roster, but that means a lot when you have 6'4" guards trying to get there hands on you.

And I know London Fletcher and Zack Thomas were short LBs that had success inside, but they were bulky and strong. Look at Spence's highlight tape: He isn't just short, he is thin too. He is listed at 235 but looked 210 in that tape. He looks like a safety. And he had a poor showing the in the bench press (I know, he had a bruised shoulder). He needs to put on 25-40 lbs of almost pure muscle to make it at ILB in a 3-4.

Don't get me wrong, though, dude is a ball-hawk and a hell of a football player. I could see him being very good on special teams, but it's pretty silly to take a kick and punt coverage guy in the third round.

                            Aside from that...

The DeCastro pick was fantastic. I can't say what no one else hasn't already said.

The Mike Adams pick is risky, IMO. I know he had a lot of discussions with the front office about getting himself strait, but it still scares me.

Ta'amu was a great pick. I read on one scouting site that he is the best true nose tackle in the draft. Hampton is nothing more than a fixated obstacle on the field anymore. He can't move like he could in the days when he was giving Eddie George concussions and actually getting to the QB a time or two each season.

I see Chris Rainey as a way to get Antonio Brown off the field in the return game and to add a spark to the backfield. Mendenhall's future is cloudy, and no one behind him has breakaway speed or much shiftiness, so Rainey is an added dimension they haven't had since Willie Parker lost a step.

Toney Clemons seems like he has a lot of upside, but had next to no continuity in college. He started at Michigan, transferred to Colorado, sat out a year, had a coaching change his first season, and finally had a full season as a senior.

This pick has the potential to be an amazing steal. 6'2, 220 or so, with decent speed. Pretty good route runner and not afraid to go over the middle, from what the scouting says.
