San Francisco 49ers to interview Singletary
    By Aaron Wilson
    Date: Jan 19, 2005

OWINGS MILLS -- Former Miami Dolphins defensive line coach Clarence Brooks is the Baltimore Ravens' new defensive line coach, and linebackers coach Mike Singletary could be the next San Francisco 49ers' defensive coordinator.

Brooks, 53, was hired Wednesday to replace defensive line coach Rex Ryan, who was elevated to coordinator when Mike Nolan became the 49ers' head coach.

The Ravens granted the 49ers permission to interview Singletary, along with an offensive assistant. Nolan could be looking at assistant Jedd Fisch.

I like where the niners are going with the defense side of the ball, afterall their most skillful players are on that side. With a healthy Peterson, Carter, Rumph, Plummer and Spencer showing great potential back next season.. I can see them as being one of the premier defenses in the league... The offense just cant put them in lose-lose situations like last season though
          I do because I can, I can because I want, I want because you say I can't

"As it stands right now, I would like Mike Singletary as possibly a linebackers coach and assistant head coach," Nolan said.

The former Bears middle linebacker has worked as the Ravens' inside linebackers coach for the past two seasons and Nolan would like him to play a central role on the 49ers' staff, dealing with every aspect of the team. Nolan implied he had received permission from the Ravens to speak to Singletary.

"He's the one man I know I want by me to affect this football team," Nolan said.

Giving that, it seems he would rather have Singletary work along side of him insted of just working with the defensive side of the ball. He can def be a motivator and give them team some fire. Hopefully he comes abaord..Probably the greatest Baylor football player (probably ahtlete) ever working on my favorite NFL team..cant wait!

I thought I heard that if you make someone an assistant head coach it makes it more difficult for another team to come in and try to take him away. This is what Joe Gibbs did with Greg Williams.

Whatever position he wants him in is fine by me as long as he gets him. Nolan was just on KNBR doing and interview and he said he was talking to Singletary right than. He said how valuable Mike is because how he relates to the players during games.
