One of the most idiotic things about this game, and it's a legacy issue, is if one of your penalty killers takes a penalty, it doesn't let you choose which player you want replacing that killer while they're in the box. There should be a pop up initiated when the player takes a penalty and who you want to replace them a la Madden games when your guy is injured and can choose to take a few plays off and return or remove them from the game.

So many times, a defenseman will take a penalty and then the computer trots out a god damned forward to take his spot on the PK. I shouldn't have to pause the game, go change the PKer for one penalty and then have to go and change it back.

Or at least give us a depth chart so we can rank/list our top PK'ers.
And what about PP and PK only having 2 line options? Why not a 3rd?

Should be a third PKer option. There's only ever two PP units, but they usually use six forwards to kill penalties. These are things that have been around for years and need to be fixed.

One problem with the power play units to, is that if you leave line changes up to the CPU like I do they give way more time to the second power play unit. You first powerplay unit maybe gets the last 30 seconds of the PP

Maybe it's the sliders that I'm using, but I haven't noticed that. My lines get about equal time.

Guys you are all spot on....but I recognize your names and you have all been here awhile and all these legacy issues we complain about and all these very basic things that should be addressed and in am NHL game will never happen because our days are gone....they don’t care about offline sim guys and they don’t care about representing the NHL properly. It’s all online and micro transactions.

We still have wingers taking face offs on PK despite having a center on the line....at center

We still have forwards on D during PK

We still have the CPU run its 4th line out with a minute to go trailing by 1 in game....mainly because the CPU doesn’t take a time out.

We still have the CPU not pull it’s goalie until 17 seconds left.

No line matching.

No face off tosses.

No player separation.

No roster share...

What more do we need to understand we do not matter. 100% of those things have been asked for for years. 90% are easy....they don’t care about us period.

Yes...I am......I imagine there is quite a few of us on these forums that should be in therapy because of this abusive relationship with this series LOL.
I love hockey and this is the only fix. The game this year offline is actually playable but everything I posted is still true.

They put this on Xbox free play days for the weekend. I tried it out and God forbid this game is the same 'ol garbage it's always been. Started out with WoC 3's game game and after that I had to change two settings. 1. The auto back skating. Have no idea why this is turned on for default settings. And 2. I turned off Commentary. It's just awful.

Once again EA Sports, without a single competitor, releases a mediocre NHL hockey video game. I absolutely love the sport of hockey, so I have a love-hate relationship with the EA Sports NHL series. The main thing that sticks out to me about NHL 20, is they actually made goalie cover-up animations and the AI worse. I didn't think it was possible. I'll still play this game because I'm a glutton for punishment.

Well... I'm a big, BIG complainer about the goalies in this series. They never get the goalies right. But I will say that the cover mechanics have slightly improved (except for the cover bug when the puck is underneath your pads).

This year, the cover is done by HOLDING the Y button (I think it's TRIANGLE on the PS4?). If you just tap it the goalie will just spazz out. But if you hold it he begins to "search" for the puck and covers it.

A few weeks further on, and I'm more and more impressed by this game. By contrast with ALL past versions that I've played back to NHL 12, this game has given me so much more moment to moment excitement than any other. So much kudos to the commentary guys too for all the hard work they put into adding so many unique comments at certain moments that are priceless.
I love the way my AI strips the CPU of the puck and heads to a good place near the net for a pass. I love the incredible visual flow of the game with the pickups and shots. Every game is a blast and a nail biter. This is so far beyond what I thought the game would be and I give EA credit for raising the bar this year.
IT'S FUN!!!! What else can I say?

While I do agree there can be some craziness in the CPU passing, I am pretty much able to keep it in the 60-70% range every game so it is what it is I guess.
