Re: Impressions a week later since this game has been out?

Well to program a good dynamic AI isn't easy, I get it.

But what I don't understand is how they can make the AI worse. They had many these AI issues I pointed out in these NHL 12 vids sorted with NHL 13. I was very excited and optimistic that year. NHL 13 was fantastic that time.

Now look at NHL 20. After so many years of development and so much money they ask for the update every year, look where we are. Is that it?
So Is that really all what they can do in 2019 with artificial intelligence? Lol

It's laughable. I wouldn't be proud, if I was them with the work.

To go along with the horrid robot passing, the twitchy AI skating is as bad as ever. The one where they turn, move 3 feet, stop, backup, twitch, turn, move 5 more feet, and cannot be touched. All while seemingly skating on the width of their blades. It’s essentially basketball movements, but with sticks?

No part of this product is hockey.

Is anyone else getting it where as a game loads its skips the pregame intro scene and goes to the controller select screen?

I'm all of a sudden getting this every other game now in GM mode.

So I gave in and got the game a couple days ago. As hesitant as I was about this game. So far 2 games I’ve played. I’ll have to say I’m actually having fun again and that’s with default sliders. This recent game I’m playing, 4 penalties, all cpu (one from my team) in 1st period. I’m loving it. I’m having a blast. They need some kind of roster sharing then it’s golden!

Re: Impressions a week later since this game has been out?

I've been watching hockey since 1984. Played hockey myself for 6 years, and never skipped an EA NHL game since the old SEGA Genesis days.

I don't know what sport this is, but this is not hockey.

I hope I'll be able to find a good set of sliders right after this message is posted, so that I can at least enjoy the game offline (which is the most important mode to me anyway), but out of the box...this game is a disaster on skates. Awful position play yet again, overly aggressive forecheck no matter what the situation is, telepathic power CPU opponent yet dumb AI teammates, same money goals year after year, no defensive game whatsoever.

As a human, I have to be placed exactly in the right position to poke or stick-lift, otherwise I get called for a penalty. And that's cool, I have no problem with the concept. Except even when I do position myself correctly, my pokes are just ineffective (I don't get call, I just swing-and-miss)...or I hit the puck, but the CPU gets it back right away. Meanwhile, I'm getting poked and stick-lifted (and intercepted) by the CPU from every possible angle, no sweat.

CPU's PPs are just unstoppable...especially since, whenever I try to clear the puck with L1+R3, the puck just so happen to go straight at a CPU player.

Game Momentum is a freakin' joke. I understand it does exist in real life, but not to that extent. I've played 7 games so far...twice, I've had a team catching fire and score 4 times in a row, on 4 consecutive shots (once me, once the CPU). Twice, in 7 games.

With 4-minutes period, I scored 6+ goals in 6 of those 7 games. Even worse, in 6 of those games, I began the 3rd period with a 2+ goals lead, including a 5-1 lead against Boston. The CPU managed to tie the game every time. 4 of those 6 games went to overtime, the other two I managed to score a goal after the CPU tied it.

That's what pisses me off the most. It feels like the only way EA has found to make their game challenging wasn't by improving the AI in any way, shape or form. They opted to give the CPU magical power instead to 'cheat' their way and give us a that 'close game' feeling. What the CPU does, I can't do and what I can do, the CPU can do a hundred times better and faster (and with eyes behind their backs).

Maybe sliders can help salvage this game. But there's no-way I'm playing online this year.

My words, I was a long time real Hockey Player, but as you said. This never looks like Hockey.

Out of all my years owning a console (Sega, Playstation and Xbox), this is the first year that I did not buy a hockey game.

Whatever latest game update I just downloaded today. It was piss poor. The game just got a bunch faster and even more north-south than before.

I have noticed in BAP that you finally get contract dollars based on performance... unfortunately term is still 2 years and you only get 2 offers per contract period again... one step forward, 10 steps back...

I've noticed this bug since NHL 15, it happens to me when either A. a controller gets disconnected and reconnected or B. You take the system out of rest mode. The next game will skip straight into the side select screen.
