Re: NHL 22 Patch Available - Includes Player Likeness Updates, Gameplay Improvements
Unfortunately with the games freezes since the patch and tuner, can’t play a game without having the issue showing, preventing me from really seeing any changes to gameplay. With the gameplay I could complete, didn’t see a ton of differences, although I had pretty good games before the patch so might be hard for me to judgeComment

Is it me or is it easier now to get in offensive zone now? I’m playing on superstar default sliders except for penalties maxed

Quick question. I'm not a big hokey guy, I'm barely a casual fan. Although my buddy and I are trying to watch more Blue Jackets games this year. I've always found hockey games to be fun, but never put a lot of time into them. I don't think I've bought a NHL game since 2008. So as you can probably guess, is this game good enough this year where it could provide me a fun, non frustrating experience to get into?
I just hate to buy it and be done in a week. Since a couple places have buy 2 games get 1 free going on right now, I was thinking of taking advantage of it.
Thanks!Comment

Re: NHL 22 Patch Available - Includes Player Likeness Updates, Gameplay Improvements
Sadly nothing was fixed with this patch. The puck still goes through your players. Poking was not balanced. The AI still doesn't open up to allow for proper cycling plays and goaltending is as bad as ever, if not worse.
Playing franchise or BaP, my teammates constantly run away with the puck instead of passing it out of the zone (or dumping it) and get caught in their zone, thus giving up the puck. It's sad.
Playing any online mode, you're still subjected to the goal "freeze", even after the emergency gameplay update, except that now when it happens they forced the game to reset after 20 seconds of replay (if the game doesn't unfreeze). That's not a fix, it's a band-aid.
Rest assured you HUT maniacs, your new cards and stats will be updated on time.
It's clear where the priorities lie with this game, and it's such a shame. The game still has plenty of potential, just the direction leaves a lot to be desired. Again, very sad.Last edited by VeNOM3099; 11-09-2021, 11:39 AM.Comment

2 goals in 21 games a 3.3% shooting percentage, and this from an ELITE center??? Give me a break!!!... Yeah, he is a star center!!! LOL oh and he is a -69 or something in his career... Boy, he should win the Selke every year!!! LMAO!!! I am surprised you do really... Ironically, I have a great friend who is a head coach in the NHL of a West Coast team in SoCal... Eichel is a cancer!! has been since he has played... People say Laine doesn't play defense actually probably has never seen Eichel play, worst defensive forward in the NHL... But you are out in SoCal yourself, probably have never seen ice in your life, nor played on it...
Just a few players who are from my area who played some level of major junior hockey and made it to the NHL
Emerson Etem (First round draft pick. Once scores over 60 goals in a WHL season)
Jason Zucker (Multiple time 20 goal scorer)
Eric Comrey (NHL quality goal tender and 2rd pick)
Beau bennett (1rd draft pick)
Brooks Oprik (long time starting NHL defenseman)
Rocco Grimaldi (NHL and AHL regular)
Plus many many more.
Not too mention Austin Matthews was raised and trained in Phoenix Arizona.
You ask any GM in the NHL and they would give their left foot for a player of Eichels caliber.
And I am willing to bet my life savings you are not friends with neither Todd Mclellan or Dallas EakinsComment

So by your theory, being on the west coast there is zero chance I have seen ice or understand the game? I know this may come as a surprise to you but, but there are these things called ice rinks where they are able to use this amazing new technology called central air to maintain a sheet of ice. Shocking I know. Yeah you have already proved my point with this statementLast edited by johnnydrum; 11-09-2021, 01:46 PM.Comment

Heck, I'm a hardcore hockey fan and although I go to extremes to enjoy this game, I still can find ways to make it pretty fun. The main problems many complain about offline who are really passionate about hockey is the AI and how static/still they are + they just have some egregious positioning blunders at times, but like I said, the less you know about the sport and the less experience you have with the video game, the better.
The controls/mechanics alone will be challenging/fun for you to get the hang of alone, then add-in a casual hockey knowledge, this game will easily be a good experience for you imo. I wouldn't be scared of that. Like I said, I'm the exact same way with Madden. I see a bunch of complaints, but I can just go casually enjoy a game as a casual football fan.Join the EVHL!

Same. I’ve never really bothered posting here much because the haters are so loud. I’ve enjoyed this franchise the past decade just as much as any of the other sports titles except The Show. Lots of room to improve but it’s not a sack of garbage half these guys make it sound like. No effin wayJust one man’s opinion.
I don’t actually care about any of this.Comment

Yeah I agree. I find the gameplay to be enjoyable. Just other little things gets onto me like the jerseys and their helmets/gloves being off this year and how they have the uniforms attached to the rosters instead of through patch but in general gameplay itself is lots of fun to play. No complaints in that department yet.

Re: NHL 22 Patch Available - Includes Player Likeness Updates, Gameplay Improvements
I am a hockey fan and the game is a blast to play. Don't listen to all the complainers, it's as fast or slow easy or hard as you want to make it. Some complain about their cpu teammates but I don't play with player lock I'm always switching control to which ever one of my teammates is closest to the puck. Do my players sometimes get out of position by doing this...oh yeah big time on occasion but who cares it's fun.I'm using an xbx by the way.
Did you also know that I played and coached competition level hockey? Does that then make my complaints more or less valid than yours, or yours IRRELEVANT as you seem to imply from those that have them?
No. We see the game how we want to see it.
To me, the fact that your AI teammates are lacking is a BIG problem. Hockey is a flowing sport and when my left winger doesn't skate over to the left wing to fill up the void when it's there is a huge complaint. When I play BaP as a goalie, and my AI teammates are constantly running back into their zone with the puck instead of passing it out to the waiting C or W at the red line, then get pushed off the puck and give up a 2 on zero chance to score for the opponent, it's a big deal.
At the end of the day, it means maybe the game is suited to casuals more than the hardcore. And that shouldn't be the case. The game should allow all levels to be happy playing it. Maybe today you don't care that much about hockey. But eventually you might want to learn more. And when you'll compare the real product to what we have... You'll complain??
That's why people complain. That's why I complain. Not because I don't want people to buy the game. But because I want the game to be better so EVERYONE can play it with some form of satisfaction rather than disappointment.Comment

I'm a hockey fan too. Just because you have no "complaints" doesn't make my, or the thousands of others who bought this game any less valid.

Game is in a really sad state if you are passionate about hockey and want to recreate some sort of resemblance of the real sport in this game. AI players constantly standing around momentum-less, human AI teammates don't have any interest in the puck, they'll skate away from a rebound to go "cover" for the dman who took one step in to take a shot rather than simply going for the puck/rebound, and then you get to watch your AI opponent send 2-3 guys to pressure you on the wall with zero hesitation, yet they show absolutely no panic or care if you beat said pressure and start walking down the middle of the slot.
When I'm leading a rush, my AI constantly skate half speed, never cut, can't even fill lanes properly. The CPU also just kind of slowly glides back into the zone, no DSS, no probing sticks, just casual backskating until you get in-range for a check, then they'll go for some terrible angle hit that you'll skate by and that's the extent of the rush.
Goalies still don't require footplanting to move, CPU AI still gets to ignore physics and/or cut stumble animations short when it's convenient, they pick passes off they never saw, they still have zero idea on what to do if you go around the net and same with your AI teammates who will all kind of 100-yard stare while standing still as you wheel around the net, bring it high, and can continue this pattern almost infinitely as the other 9 guys will all just kind of stand still and be content with doing absolutely nothing.
Then presentation this year is fun am I right? Talking about x-factors as if they're real, still no props (they said they had big plans for these in NHL 16, remember?), no light shows, crowd goes silent 3 seconds after a goal, goal horns still more like white noise, same terrible scorebug, still can't get a playoff series indicator, and colors this year look washed out/faded...idk they just are not great.
This is a $70 product, same as any story-driven game with actual care and polish. I don't think "complaining" about AI that act and play like a college program senior project should be considered "complaining" lol. AI that are semi-engaged, semi-even, and semi-useful should be the least we expect from a AAA product, especially since they're given massive amount of videos and feedback on their official forums every single year by people who care and take the time to do such things.
There's just no reason to believe in this team/series anymore if you're looking for anything more than a pretty-skinned NHL 94. All of the features and mechanics they have are 100% for show. Game is still a simple, mindless, low-effort sports arcade game to have casual fun with like it was in the 90's.Join the EVHL!
