Just wanna let everyone know development is still going for these. The elephant in the room though is that I'm unsure when I will be able to release them due to not having my PC in over a year due to a rough living situation.

My idea is to just keep updating them for my own enjoyment and then when the day comes I am free to release it I will ASAP. Just giving a heads up that this isn't dead by any means.

      Very cool. Good to hear.

Whereabouts are you on this. Would you be willing to share what you have up to now or are you simply not able to?

A lot of changes need to be made obviously.

I cannot share what I have because I have no PC or flashdrives with me (and haven't since January 2020, they are all safe in storage though so no data is at risk) This also means I can't play anybody else's roster updates or franchise files for any other sports game either. It totally sucks.

Totally understand. If I could send you a computer to hold you over I would.

How do you get around the franchise freeze?

By using the editor to blank everyone's menuface I am basically editing a vanilla ESPN NHL 2K5 roster to be current.

Because there are no harmful modifications the game will sim multiple seasons of Franchise Mode with no issue.

But by default, the game would freeze in franchise due to injuries messing with lineups. How would this prevent that?

I have not seen this happen with default rosters regardless of how high I set the injury slider

The only time I saw the behavior you're saying is when any in-game skater has a copied appearance from another or if one of the international teams has their player cut and placed on the NHL teams.

As a true precaution I guess you can disable injuries before starting a franchise with my rosters that are currently in development. The goal is to make sure you can at least play 2-3 seasons and by sticking with vanilla rosters as a base/blanked menufaces it has worked great in all of my testing.

Hehe the ESPN branding and a 2K5 updated roster probably just became 100% more desirable. Welcome back NHL on ESPN!

Currently working on goalies. I figure since there are only a handful of them per team I can breeze through them.

Ohh.. I see. You're doing all your changes in- game. I wasn't aware. So you can keep editing, you just can't share after. Is that it?

Yeah that's been the deal ever since I did the save reset. Edits are done in-game to avoid any complications

Good news: I recently managed to get a lot of my property back I had to put in storage elsewhere, including all hookups for my PC. Me getting my PC back is imminent and when I do it is going to help me work a bit faster.

Fantastic. Not for the game as much as for you getting your stuff back. Hopefully more good times for you coming soon.

                                Project Update:

I've been through a lot the last two years, a lot of ups and downs. I had to put my consoles and PC in storage again which led to me suspending my activity on Operation Sports.

Now the news is positive. It looks like I'm getting my stuff out soon permanently and I'm looking to get back to roster editing when I do. There's a new and interesting twist: I now once again own the PS2 version of ESPN NHL 2K5.

This brings me one step closer to my ultimate goal: making a roster update for both the PS2 and original Xbox.

Not all the news is good though. I was doing some extra work on a roster update in 2020-2021 and because I didn't progress enough it's not really where I want it to be. So I'm considering what I considered at the start of the project: with a fresh base roster, making my edits on one version, then repeating those edits on the other version. This would take more time but it would achieve my goal.

I noticed molifox completed a roster update in 2021 before me and it got me wondering what would happen if he were to make a new roster and then I would repeat his edits on the original Xbox. If me and molifox were to potentially collaborate I would get some much needed help and get this done faster. But it's ultimately up to him.
