Okay so, I use Simple Mathematics' spreadsheet to give players attributes.

However, their spreadsheet doesn't have attributes for every skater.

So wherever there isn't a skater that has Mathematics' ratings, I go on NHL '18 and copy their attributes from that.

But I had to give up my Xbox One for some financial commitments, so I can no longer do that.

Because NHL '18 doesn't have it's attributes for players widely available online, I have to think about alternatives.

I've considered popping in NHL 2K8 and seeing if I can use Snowdrift's roster for pointers on attributes that might be able to be applied to 2K5.

Honestly, I wouldn't even go that far, why not just install the editor and look at the latest roster file? You may even be able to export as xml?
Secondly, do you know about PetrPuck's site? Could be helpful for some of the work?

I know this is a 360 thread, but does anyone have updated max file rosters for PS2? Thanks!

Well it's actually an XBOX thread, the game just happens to run (I think) on a 360. But as far as I know, the roster files aren't interchangeable from one console to another and I don't know of anyone else updating the PS2 version.

What game? There's a PS2 max file for NHL 2K10 here. Don't think there are any other updated PS2 games.

You'll probably run into a consistency problem since you started with NHL 18 as a base. EA's rating methodology seems to be a lot different than mine. But if you need them, I'll gladly send you the 2019 ratings for any requested team in advance, as long as it's a team I've finished.

That would be really great, send me Anaheim and I'll check and see if I can work it to 2K5.

I think I'm losing passion for this project, NHL season is in a little over a month and I still have a lot of teams left. little progress has been made on Ottawa and I can't really do my proper attributes metric.

Completely understandable. I'm amazed how far you've gone. What is the main thing that would be needed information-wise to move things along?

Part of it is just the grind, it takes so long to make teams.

Make 20 skaters, make sure their faces are at least a decent likeness, make sure their stats and equipment is right, make sure every player is at the right position. it's why there was a 5 day turnaround between each team.

And then there's AHL'ers and minor leaguers that can be called up at any time. that's a pain too.

And then there's something I haven't even worked on yet which is free agency.

I love this game and I want it to be a great experience, but doing it by myself as I have since May has been one of the biggest grinds I've ever had to do in gaming with anything. I think I finally understand why this game has never received an update.

Don't know if you were going for some kind of reverse psychology there, but I had no plans of doing roster work last night until I read this post. Then I found myself staring at spreadsheets.

For a first release, I wouldn't do equipment at all, and wouldn't have anymore than the minimum 20 players per team (no AHL, no FAs). I wouldn't mess with line combinations, let the game automate them.

My 2016-17 pre-season rosters for 2K8 were very basic. 20 players per team, minimal faces and equipment, all player attributes in multiples of 10 and rated by category (like a player would have the same number for ALL of his offensive attributes). It looked nothing like my current rosters. The transformation has happened slowly through two years' worth of updates.

My philosophy is to do the bare minimum to get a functional first release, then add other stuff through updates as time permits.

Have to say, I completely agree with this, and I've told you this as well WWEDX2007 but I know that you like setting everything perfect as you go.

I did get on 2K5 and make a few skaters for Ottawa after making this post to see if I could spark myself, it's not reverse-psychology. I'm genuinely experiencing a downward spiral in interest because of my life circumstances and not being able to finish this up like I had planned because of a lack of control of those circumstances.

I actually never even thought to buy NHL 2K8 until I got a functional Xbox 360 and saw your 2017-18 rosters here on OS. OS has been inspiring my sports game related purchases lately, first starting with NHL 2K10 and 2K8 and recently NCAA Football 13, NBA 2K14 and Madden 25. But anyways, I never saw your 2017 rosters in their initial state. I've been spoiled by your recent work

The issue is I don't have good sources for rosters, I've been using Wikipedia a lot. There's stuff like Roster Resource I can look into. but I need a proper 20 skaters per team If I'm gonna accomplish it.

Maybe I need to simplify things. Maybe I should focus on having players made by name. because I can always copy faces later thanks to this version of the editor.

If I were to go exclusively in the editor and not focus on likenesses and equipment, I could get every player in on name and information alone in a matter of a week I think.

Okay I've decided to move forward with the above, while not paying attention to likenesses I've made the rest of Ottawa's skaters and filled their information out.

I've also decided to copy attributes from existing players to fit their overall on the spreadsheet. so nobody feels out of place.

EDIT: A small bonus I've thought about if we reach the end stage of this, know how the NHL selected 4 All-Star teams last year? there are 4 All-Star teams in this game. and since the editor makes copying players a snap. All-Star teams might be included if we get far enough.

Plus, I'll bet people could chip in with visual editing help once you had the basic players down. You might even get help with rating players.

Remember the play-by-play "hack" Snowdrift talked about with NHL 2K8?

It turns out that it works with ESPN NHL 2K5 because changing names in the editor doesn't assign PBP. Matt Duchene and Wayne Simmonds have PBP in the rosters now.

Since ditching working on likenesses. I finished OTT, PHI and PIT. the first post has been updated with the file.
