i dont see this happening, but man.. it would be hilarious if the capitals lost 2 straight playoff series at home in game 7's.

wonder if fat ted would make bruce do the truffle shuffle to save his job, or just fire him.

halak will have to stop 60 shots IMO for the habs to pull out game 7!!

It's the #1 seed vs the #16 seed. Winning the #1 seed in the West isn't much of a prize. All 8 teams are strong.
But in the East, getting the #8 should be a cake-walk. That's no insult to Montreal but there's no way a true Cup contender should be taken to a seventh game by the Habs.

Leonosis and Ovechkin will probably be loath to going to a more conservative style of play. But that's the NHL these days. Run-and-Gun thrills in the regular season, but it can't get it done in the playoffs.

I predict an ***-whooping. Canucks in 5.
I can't wait for this series. I think it has potential to be the most exciting and I think the winner of this round will win the Cup.

And how unbelievable was that performance by Halak? The Caps threw everything they had at him, but he always seemed to be in the right place. Part of me wants Washington to lose (the Penguin fan side I suppose), but part of me doesn't (the hockey fan). They play entertaining hockey and are fun to watch.

They somewhat remind me of the 93-96ish Penguins... lots of talent, star players, goals galore, but the mix was off. Too much style, not enough substance come playoff time.

He (along with the GM and assistant coaches) should be, but it won't happen. Leonsis will not fire him.

Boudreau held an optional practice today. /facepalm

Why so hellbent on canning everyone? I know you feel he's not making adjustments -- I admit I don't see enough of them to know myself -- but I think in general coaching impact on that level is overstated. The players are the ones who decide the outcome on the ice.

Now if you feel the entire philosophy of the team needs to change (ie, become a defensive-oriented team), then I guess I can see how he might have to go, assuming he refuses to adapt.

As far as McPhee goes, he's done an admirable job of building the team from the ground up and has them in a position to contend for years. He has to put the final pieces in place -- solidify the defense (they have two good up & comers in Carlsson & Alzner), add some more character & grit to the lineup (Knuble was a great addition), and decide on a goalie (Varlamov & Neuvirth have promise but aren't quite ready it appears).

To me it looks like he has the assets to acquire those pieces if he makes shrewd decisions. If I were in his shoes, I'd dangle Semin for either a defenseman to compliment Green or a goalie (to FLA for Vokoun?) and/or at least kick the tires on Dan Hamhuis if he goes to UFA. Then look for a vet or two with rings to play a supporting role.

I guess it's easy for me to look at the Caps with a detached POV and avoid the reactionary mentality of dropping the axe since I'm not emotionally invested in them.

                No way i'd trade Semin.

If they have the Cap room, sign Turco to a 2 year deal and have him and Simeon split the games.

I don't think he'll be fired if they lose. Usually when a coach is on the hotseat you can feel his demise coming. There are rumblings about it in the press. Journalists are asking the FO questions about it. I don't see that happening in this case. For the Pens, when Therrien was let go you could see it coming.....even coming off a trip to the Finals. You just felt him and the team coming to a dead end. I don't see that as being the case just yet with Boudreau. Perhaps if they lose this series (or the next) and stumble badly in the reg season next year to the point they're in danger of missing the playoffs the situation will change. But I don't feel like it's there yet.

Screw that! Sign Halak in the offseason!

I've heard various sources say that Halak wants out of Montreal, and Price's shadow, as quickly as possible.

I'm still shocked that so many people in the Canadiens organization continue to shove Price down everyone's throats. Halak has consistently proven that he's the better goalie (by far) of the two at this moment. And he's only 2-years older than Price.

I feel bad for Buffalo fans. Just can't seem to catch a break.

I'll be rooting for the habs the rest of the way (although I'm not a big nhl fan)

Semin is one of the most-skilled players in the NHL no doubt, but he's coming up on free agency and will likely command big money. Backstrom is far more important to re-sign; that will require big bucks. The Caps have an abundance of skill and you have to give to get. There is only so much cap space to go around when building a Cup-winning team, so you must allocate it wisely.

I'm not sure how much Turco has in the tank at this point. He hasn't shown much the past couple of season and it's not like he was playing behind a terrible defensive team the whole time (they have regressed some in that area to be fair).

Yeah, I don't buy for a second that Turco is a sizable upgrade taking everything into account with him. He seems more on the downside of his career, and even at his peak he wasn't always very reliable.

Semin is on the hook for $6 million next year, but it's hard to argue that they shouldn't at least look into trading him since about half the team is going to be dealing with free agency in the next two years -- including guys like Backstrom and Green. If you can package Semin to get back a defender like Shea Weber or trade for a goalie like Vokoun, I'm not sure why you wouldn't think about it.
