When star players under perform or screw up its somehow never their fault. For the record I don't hate Thorton, I just find him incredibly overrated due to his consistant choke jobs during the playoffs. Sure he can put up 100 points in the regular season yet when it time to step up his game, he failboats it every time.

Re: 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs Thread
Let's recap. Six weeks ago, most Red Wings fans were (legitimately) boasting, "Watch out for us! We're healthy now! We're 16-3-1 in our last 20 games! Pens-Wings Round 3!" Now after the fact, all of a sudden the Wings were this "tired, beat-up, average" team that San Jose should get no credit for beating? Lame.
The Wings-Sharks series could get interesting in a hurry...I wish they'd give us an extra day of rest, but those are the breaks when you go 7 games in your first series...that's why you gotta knock 'em out when you get the chance.
If the Sharks would just wake up and realize they're probably one of the most talented teams in the West, they could probably steamroll everyone left in the playoffs (like they did Colorado, once they realized "wait a minute...we're way better than this team!!!"). They should be well-rested, and the Wings are coming off a tough series. Either way, I think the Sharks will probably win the series 'cuz the Wings have just played too much hockey in the past 3 seasons to still have legs at this point. It's a blessing and a curse to be deep in the playoffs every year. If the Wings do pull it off, it'll likely be another 7-game affair.
And Money, I'm with you: I think Jimmy Howard is a 10/10 on the shaky scale...I only just started relaxing when we tallied our 5th and 6th goals. Great Wall of Vernon he is not...
Upon re-reading DrJones' post, I guess you did use the modifier "most" Wings fans were...boasting. But I think I had that one read right (well, at least partially...), and almost every Wings fan I know personally - in real life, that is, not that you guys aren't my favorite internet puckheads - pretty much figured there was no way the Wings were going to get the Sharks after draining themselves for the better part of 2 weeks against the 'Yotes. Even after game 1 with the Sharks, one of my best buds texted me: "doesn't matter...this series was lost 48 hrs ago".
I'm wondering whether the Sharks have just already used up their best hockey against the Wings, or are the Blackhawks just that much better than them? If it's the latter, I'd be shaking in my Prince of Wales boots right about now...Last edited by pietasterp; 05-20-2010, 03:08 AM.Comment

Re: 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs Thread
True, but the 5 of those goals were hit off skates of their own players. It happens. Joe has been playing physical at least to me. But who knows I have no problem with how he is playing. Seto, Clowe and Pal were hot the first night, but they could not get on through. That happens. They had to win that game, but Nemi stole that game for the Hawks. The Hawks are going to be tough to beat. They are so deep and are playing really good right now. And even when the Sharks did play good they still lose. Not good, but oh well. They got the finals, now you can reevaluate this team and see what you can do to get over that hump next year.
With expiring contracts and potentially another playoff failure, it will be interesting to see who is back and who isn't."And by the way, you know, when you're telling these little stories? Here's a good idea - have a POINT. It makes it SO much more interesting for the listener!"Comment

Until we win another Cup...
Honestly (I'll let it die after this I promise), while I think the Sharks would have beaten the Wings regardless in that series, I do think the officiating led directly to at least 1 Sharks win in that series...I mean, I watch a fair amount of hockey, and that game 2 had to be among the worst I've ever seen. For anyone to even dispute that...I don't know how to respond to that.
Anyway, back to current news about teams still kicking...who comes back to win from their 0-2 hole? Tell me the future, soothsayers...Comment

It looks like Montreal has woken up. 2-0.
That was a bad turnover by Pronger."You got it man. I don't watch hockey." SidVish"I thought LeBron James was just going to be another addition to help me score."

Montreal clearly the better team tonight. Philly is flatfooted. Habs getting some good bounces, but also creating good bounces for themselves. Only thing Philly can do is try to win the 3rd period and take that momentum into game 4.
Man, Richards just seems so out of sync, making bad decisions.Comment

Re: 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs Thread
I can't wait to read everyone condemning the classless, horrible Habs for attacking Briere at the end of this game. And LOL at putting your #1 PP unit out on the ice to score the 5th goal in a 5-1 game with 30 seconds left. Don't think that will be forgotten soon by the Flyers.
It was evident early that the zebras didn't want this series to be a sweep. The Habs got away with murder all night and every one of their dives was called a penalty on us, with help from the whining crowd that apparently "intimidated the officials" according to one commentator on Vs.
But it's cool. What goes around comes around and we're still winning this series, no question. All the Habs did with their shenanigans tonight is make the Flyers mad.Helen: Everyone's special, Dash.
