Halak will certainly have to stand on his head again. And I think the Caps are going to fired up bigtime.
If the Habs can weather the early storm coming for them, and maybe even get a cheap goal, or PP marker, they could deflate the Caps.

    Anything's possible.
But if I had to bet, I think the Caps will win in convincing fashion tonight.
No shame in that Habs fans. Montreal has been tremendous and wasn't expected to last past 5 games with Washington.

Illitch, get the Wings in the EAST!
Never happen, the Wings are too much of a road draw. I'd kinda like a return to the 1 vs 16 days, or perhaps an East-West crossover (first round is W1 vs E8, etc.), so the East get a taste of how the other half lives.

Of course, this year would've seen Detroit (W5) vs Pittsburgh (E4) in Round 1, so you probably wouldn't approve...

Hmmm...tantalizing. I would approve of that!!!

But I'm glad someone else out there is thinking the same thing I am...I always said the West winner is so much more beat-up and drained by the time of the Cup final than the East winner, for any number of reasons, which makes it sorta not fair in my opinion. I know I'm getting dangerously close to wah-mbulance territory here, but the Wings were brutalized en route to the Cup final last year and were like a walking MASH unit by game 4 of the Cup finals. Same story for the Western champs every year.

I'm not saying it's a huge problem or an excuse for the Western teams, it's just that the road seems longer when you're in the Campbell Conference...

Keys to victory tonight for the Habs would be another strong showing by Halak and to find a way to keep Washington's shot totals down to a reasonable level. 90+ shots in 2 games is crazy. Halak can't be expected to hold down the fort like he's been forced to the last couple of games. You can only keep up that level of play fo so long.

The "Jekyll and Hyde" show continues for the Wings. They seem to either play awesome or crappy with little in between. Based on the last few years the Sharks don't scare me. I think Nabakov is overrated, but I think the second line for San Jose will set the tone for the series. The one thing that has me worried is Pavelski's line with Stuart and Kronwall against them.
As for the Caps, I think it will be a close game 7, but if they win they will be the team to beat in the East. They have a history of playing down to teams in the playoffs recently. If Boudreax would just instill a little more discipline on the blue line they would be even more of a beast in the playoffs. You can be aggressive without being reckless and the Caps ride a fine line between the two. If Washington loses it's the Pens' conference to lose.

It's not throwing out excuses. It's fact. The West is much stronger than the East.
And with the travel thrown in, it's a lot harder to win the western conference.

But if they wanted to make things easier for Western Teams they should go back to two divisions and playing out of the division to the conference final.
That way Detroit wouldn't have to travel farther than Dallas and Van and SJ wouldn't go beyond Edmonton until the Final 4.

I hate Mike Green more than any other player on any of my favorite sports teams. He is the most overrated piece of crap.

Halak is a piece too. How bout to let us score some goals please, I mean you can't be this good.

Mmmm, I dunno about that one. That is probably my least favorite rule in hockey.

Other than, of course shootouts and getting a point for losing.

The "no goal/no penalty" rule is probably the biggest joke in sports right now.

Agree...well, that and "ref blows the play dead the second he loses sight of the puck", and "intention to blow the whistle"...

How many critical goals have the Wings been robbed of just in the last 2 playoff seasons by that rule???
