Exactly. And as you can see by my post edit, there was no choice. The *** **** Eagles are playing two shows, so the logistics of taking down their equipment, having a hockey game Saturday afternoon, and then getting it back up would be impossible. They couldn't put off the start of the series until Sunday.

Just another reason to hate the most overrated band in music history. Every time I hear Desperado, I want to punch out the speakers producing it.

Good game. Man the Wings are so good. You guys are lucky to have been able to watch them during playoffs. I agree about the Fran call, even though the guys doing the game sound like it was the right call. I don't see that. I will say one thing. Joe T played very physical and he hitting. I like seeing that. I hope Marleau comes back like that. This should be a good series.

Shame on you. It is the Eagle man! Also the Wings/Eagles? See the humor that.

No. Why should any team get more than a day off after a Game 7? Detroit's lucky to get an extra day of rest between Games 1 and 2. Montreal has a worse schedule, as they play tomorrow night and then Sunday afternoon. You want extra rest, finish the series early.

I understand that, but the Canucks and Hawks both would have gotten more than 1 day off if their series had gone 7.

True. Although the last time the Canucks played a 7 game series in the first round, they had to play 48 hours later, just like Detroit this year. No screw job. It happens.

Yeah, I forgot to mention your awesome Lebowski quote ImTellinTim...I LOVE that quote - I use it all the frickin' time. "I've had a rough night, and I f*'n hate the Eagles!!!". Never more apropos than tonight...especially since they inadvertently screwed us (the Red Wings), and I actually do hate the Eagles with a passion.

Scottdau - I'm hoping the Wings win game 2, otherwise I fear it will be a short series. Super high skill level on both sides, though - when both teams are rolling, it's the best hockey going right now. I wouldn't rather be closely following any other series right now.

DrJones - Okay, maybe "screwed" is a little harsh, but they got an unfavorable schedule. Either way, as you pointed out, I readily concede that when you don't close-out an opponent when you have a chance and force yourself to play a game 7, you leave yourself exposed to something like this happening.

Once again, I think the Wings have just played too much hockey over the past 24-36 months, and that has to catch up with you at some point. I think it's asking a bit much to take an aging roster with a ton of miles on the legs with a rookie goaltender and somehow make a run at the Cup. From my perspective, they've done well to get to this point. Anything from here will be gravy.

Disagree with this. The Wings had the best record after the All Star Break when everybody finally got healthy so I see no reason why this team isn't good enough to make a run at the cup. I don't have any lower exceptions of this Wings team than any Wings team in the past considering they were one of the best teams in hockey when they were healthy. I would still look at not advancing past the second round as a disappointment for this team and I would hardly consider it gravy if they were to advance. The Wings like other elite teams in the league have one goal at the beginning of the season and that is to win the cup. I guarantee they wouldn't be satisfied with only advancing to the second round.

And really other than Lidstrom I wouldn't consider the Wings to be an extremely old aging team. Guys like Franzen , Datsyuk, Zetterberg are in the prime of their careers right now.

I guess it depends how high your expectations are. It's the most difficult path to the Stanley Cup Final they've ever faced IMO, as they started out with a 7-gamer and there are still three other elite teams in their bracket. No home ice advantage until the Final. Their core players, with the exception of Franzen, do have a fair amount of mileage on them. Can they do it? Sure. Is the degree of difficulty incredibly high? Yes. Past Detroit contenders, by virtue of their high seed, always had a jobber or two to beat up along the way. Not this year. If the Wings run the gauntlet of Phoenix, San Jose, Chicago/Vancouver, and likely a daisy-fresh Pittsburgh team, I'd consider it their greatest accomplishment.

They're not the '67 Leafs, but they're still the oldest team in the NHL. Maybe that won't matter this year. But it might.

Hence why Sets didn't draw a penalty late in the 3rd when Kronwall clearly used the can-opener to take him down.

Refs don't like to be made a fool of. They'll see that horrendous dive/exaggeration he took on the high-stick and be very hesitant to call anything on him from here on out.

All-in-all, despite the loss I liked how the Wings played. 89 seconds of brain farts beat them.
But we didn't give up. We chipped away and nearly tied it up despite being down 3-0 very early in the game.

I really like our chances. Thornton was still mostly invisible. I'm still in awe of how afraid he is to go to the net. On more than one occasion, when he had the puck along the wall and an easy lane to the net, he choose to stop moving and attempt a pass through 18 skates, sticks and legs. I think as soon as the 82nd game of the season wraps up his testicles immediately retreat into his abdomen.

Pavelski's line is driving this team. But Heatley is lazy, Thornton is scared and Marleau is sick.
Our PP will be better for Sunday night. We'll win, take both in Detroit and probably end it on the road in SJ.

Good game. But Kent Huskins....I've never seen a player with his head so far up his butt, game after game. Demers or Murray come pretty close. I just watched the replay and you can tell Nabby had a WTF moment when he had a wide open Wing posted up beside him and Huskins skates completely up to the blue line instead of covering. Funny dude.

I'll take Caps fans over Pens fans any day of the week. I always hated when the Pens fans would drive their horse and buggies down to Landover, MD to watch Caps/Pens games and then try to start fights in the parking lot before the game even started... At least since the team has moved down town, there are far fewer Pens fans to deal with at home games.

LOL that guy needs to get a life (and some sun), and thinks way too highly of his own opinion. He "will not allow" Caps fans to say their team choked? LOL....okay. He takes the message board stuff way too seriously. And he really should look in the mirror if he's going to talk about a stupid fanbase, because anybody with even an inking of understanding of the game can see the Pens play a completely different style of hockey than the Capitals. And, as evidenced by the last 2 seasons of progression in the playoffs by the Pens, one that's more conducive to playoff hockey. They took a 1st round loss 3 years ago, learned their lessons, and parlayed that into a Finals appearance the next year. They learned their lessons from that loss, and parlayed that into a repeat trip to the Finals where they got the job done and brought home the hardware.

On a side note, I don't believe guys like this are representative of the Caps fanbase. He is among the lowest common denominator and all fanbases have them.
