I'm sure if Matt Cooke was able to play last night he would've gone after someone dirtily, and then run away behind the officials.

Re: The Official 2010-11 Regular Season Talk Thread
i never have defended Matt Cooke's cheapshots from behind etc.. i said i see why guys like him do what they do, bc the NHL lets them. refs ignore stuff, then Cookes, Gillies of the world take it into their own hands.
i dont like it on the Pens, Sharks, Isles, etc etc.. no place in the game for it.
but the NHL is at fault by not suspending these guys for 25 to 50 games. oh boy they sit for 3-5 games. yeeeeeeeeah.. that will teach them!!
bottom line from last night, the islanders wanted revenge bc their goalie is a twat!!Twitch

You don't do anything in sports that's cheap whether an official, league or whoever let's you. It's called having principles ... like in anything you do.
I could go out in the middle of the night tonight around my neighborhood and key every car there and even though there is a law against it, I'm still not going to do it, even though I know I won't get caught.Comment

Re: The Official 2010-11 Regular Season Talk Thread
When I made my posts I actually didn't see the highlights of what Martin and Gillies did, but I seen them late last night. Those two are ****ing clowns and I hope Gillies gets knocked out. I never wish injury on any player in any sport but this idiot is standing there talking trash to Tangradi as he's knocked out.
Then there's Martin trying to do a recreation of Bertuzzi on Steve Moore. Just a genius move on his part. I hope the book gets thrown at him just for even thinking about doing that, but I know it won't because Colin Campbell is too busy worrying about how much of a diver Marc Savard is.
Now don't get me wrong, the Pens weren't exactly saints in this situation either and suspensions should come down on their end as well, but what Martin and Gillies did has no place anywhere. I'm not even upset about what Haley did. That's just a kid doing his job and dropping the gloves trying to earn a roster spot, so I can't hate there.
I'm just getting tired of all these cheap shots and head hits and the NHL not giving a **** about it. "Oh hey, you intentionally lifted your elbow up into a guy's head, so we're only going to give you a 3 game suspension.". It's ridiculous. It's time to start throwing the book at all of these guys and sending a message.
Also, I can only sit back and laugh at all these cavemen up in arms about Andrew Ference saying that Ference "broke the code" because he said he didn't like his own teammates hit (another head shot). So is it going to be "breaking the code" when someone gets their career ended or killed because of these constant head hits?Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. Holos out indefinetely with head injury, Galiardi has surgery on the wrist and is out 6~8 weeks. One of those years.................
Stewart a healthy scratch tonight, hopefully after this he takes off. Hasn't played that well since coming back from an injury
Another Edit: So we get a goal to take a 1-0 lead and than allow one 11seconds later? smhLast edited by Kobalt; 02-12-2011, 08:27 PM.Comment

Re: The Official 2010-11 Regular Season Talk Thread
Agreed. He may have one shot a fellow goalie, but chances are he won't stand a chance against a goon/fighter. Just like the other night in the MTL/BOS game, where a bunch of BOS players who have experience fighting were in fights with non-fighters like Spacek and Hamrlik. It just didn't seem right the way they were just killing those guys. And plus, with tension so high, those Islanders players weren't going to hold back at all, goalie or not.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

10charactersThe NHL suspended New York Islanders forwards Trevor Gillies for nine games and Matt Martin for four and handed the club a $100,000 fine late Saturday night for their actions in a fight-filled win over the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Only enforcer Eric Godard was punished on the Penguins side by the league as he received an automatic 10-game suspension for leaving the bench Friday night to join the third-period brawl.Comment

Re: The Official 2010-11 Regular Season Talk Thread
the NHL can't be serious with that punishment. it was a disaster the other night and the NHL made it seem like it was just a quick scrap. here's what #66 had to say.
pretty harsh and loud words from the big man"Hockey is a tough, physical game, and it always should be. But what happened Friday night on Long Island wasn't hockey. It was a travesty. It was painful to watch the game I love turn into a sideshow like that.
"The NHL had a chance to send a clear and strong message that those kinds of actions are unacceptable and embarrassing to the sport. It failed.
"We, as a league, must do a better job of protecting the integrity of the game and the safety of our players. We must make it clear that those kinds of actions will not be tolerated and will be met with meaningful disciplinary action.
"If the events relating to Friday night reflect the state of the league, I need to re-think whether I want to be a part of it."Comment

Good. I'm glad someone like this that (you would think) the NHL would listen to is speaking up about this. It's getting ridiculous.Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. Its not too thin and not too thick. You get the support your body needs.

Re: The Official 2010-11 Regular Season Talk Thread
Mario should look at his own team and own player as one of the reasons the NHL is getting out of control with this stuff. One of his own players has been throwing out cheapshots for a long, long time and Mario hasn't had a problem with it. Where was Mario when Cooke sent Savard into a concussion that would ultimately (it looks) end his career? Was he OK with the league then?
The NHL has had a chance to send a message with dirty and vicious hits for a long time and they haven't done anything because Colin Campbell is a complete moron. The Islanders got pissed off and took it into their own hands. The next matchup will be great television and I'm excited.
(Let me make it clear, though, that what Gilles and Martin did was dirty and they deserved their suspensions and probably deserved more. I don't disagree with Mario here, just the timing and it seems he's only concerned when it happens to his team.)
If anything, though, this situation continues to prove one thing: Colin Campbell is a complete joke.Last edited by tyler289; 02-13-2011, 10:01 PM.Comment
