it seems that many people look at the wrong part of these two games...if i want to play a videogame of hockey, i want to play the game that looks best when i am actually playing the game, not when there are cutscenes or the stat boxes...NHL 2004 have MUCH MUCH MUCH!! better graphics than NHL 2k4...people could comfuse nhl 2k4 for PS1....the complaint last year between the two games was that nhl 2k3 was more realistic with scoring, the AI, and the manangement point with drafting, scouting etc. well this year EA has added an amzing management mode, just as good, if not better than Sega's, and they have improved the AI..scoring will be harder, and the games will be more realistic...EA is the better game, dont be fooled by the ESPN graphics

He wasn't asking about AI and gameplay -- see the thread title.

That said, ESPN has the superior presentation in almost every aspect, IMO. If it's not in yours, then that's fine, but don't stoop to saying ESPN looks like PS1 graphics. That's just sad, man.

As for the gameplay, well, the games aren't out yet so we don't know for sure. But EVERY SINGLE REVIEW for EA has said that the AI is a bit spotty and the hitting is out of control (overwhelmingly aggressive AI checking to make up for positioning to make it more challenging).

And I DO happen to have a final build of ESPN in my hands, and it plays incredibly. It will take an absolute MIRACLE if EA's plays better than this.

Yes, EA has the new management mode -- no one's denying that is a great addition. But no, the on-ice AI and physics simply DO NOT match up to ESPN's.

And PS -- does it make sense to say "ESPN has horrible PS1-style graphics" and then say, "EA will have the better game; don't be fooled by ESPN's graphics" (referencing the fact that ESPN might just have great graphics?) Didn't make sense to me...

Please read gamespots updated impressions of nhl2004. They comment on nhl2004 great A.I for defence and offence. They also said it's simulation through and through, and the hitting is satifying.

Gamespot DOESN'T KNOW HOCKEY. Why on Earth would you trust people who don't know the actual game of hockey to tell you how great the AI and Simulation is? WAZ knows hockey. I believe what he has to say about the game since he HAS the final build!

To Gamespot, AI means goalies running out to the other end of the ice and fighting! To Waz, and other hockey fanatics, it means great defensive pressure, smart offensive CPU, and overall how realistic the CPU operates. You are very confused if you actually think Gamespot knows hockey better than WAZ. Just go to ESPNHockey.net and read a little more about the game, and I'm sure you'll learn the facts a little quicker.

I cant imagine NHL 2004 coming anywhere near ESPN as far as gameplay and AI. Last year was incredible besides for the super goalies. With that toned down ESPN will be the best game of 2004. And it is good to hear EA is upgrading their game cause the last couple of years were garbage and Im not an ESPN cheerleader. I go with Madden and I actually still like Live and I loved MVP.......
