Thanks, Scottdau...although no offense and I wish no ill will toward your team (unless it's at the hands of the Wings), but I want to see the Wings play the Kings. Although that does not look likely at this point....

Can't happen before the conference Finals, if the Kings win they would play the Canucks since the NHL reseeds after each round. (If the Blackhawks by some miracle were to beat the Canucks and the Kings won, the Wings would play Chicago in round 2)

Yeah...but I totally understand it. Just complete frustration. Was gonna be a penalty (saw the ref raise the arm), but they were able to slot one by the ghost 'tender.

Man, Doan's in tears. Really sad to see, even if the market can't sustain a franchise. You never want to see a city lose a team.

Always hate to see a city lose a franchise, no matter the circumstances or the worthiness or any of the reasons. You could tell Doan cared out there in the way he played. Maybe it was a mistake to put a franchise in the desert, but as someone pointed out earlier (maybe in another thread?), unless you're really gonna try to build a fanbase (over the long-term) in a "non-traditional" market, why bother to make that move to begin with? It seems like they could just now start making in-roads, with the new TV deal and all, and now they're gonna bail. Well, best of luck wherever they end up next.

I'll be anxious to see a Wings/Sharks round 2 match up, of course SJ has to take care of the Kings but after the emotional letdown yesterday was for the Kings I can't see them coming back.

Ref was signaling an automatic goal, not a penalty. Wouldn't have mattered if Eaves shot the puck into the corner once Hanzal threw his stick.

Maybe it was a mistake to put a franchise in the desert, but as someone pointed out earlier (maybe in another thread?), unless you're really gonna try to build a fanbase (over the long-term) in a "non-traditional" market, why bother to make that move to begin with?

But that's just it, though. In order for markets like these to succeed, you need owners with DEEP pockets and long-term vision, not the fly-by-night hucksters with paper assets that the NHL favours. You need to be able to spend money on FA (like Colorado) or at least be astute in your drafting (like Nashville). You also need a decent arena that's easily accessible. Oops.

By the way, RE: Richards penalty - it was penalty worthy, but not a major I don't think. Dude was coming up to blind side him and he threw an elbow at the last second pretty much in self defense. Shouldn't be a suspension, but that's just me

Yeah, just saw a replay (listened to the game on radio). He was the guy getting hit, and as Kaleta is bearing down on him, he throws up his arms & elbows. I wouldn't say it's malicious, but yes penalty worthy. 2 minutes, possibly 4. Can't believe it was a 5 major and it should not be a suspension but the Wheel of Discipline will be in full force on this.

What's amazing is that the Flyers killed it off. And we killed a full 4 minute PP off in Game 3 AND an almost full 2-man advantage in that game too.

The PP's in this series have been pathetic. Or rather, the PK & goalies have been superb.

Game 5 in Philly on Friday night. Home ice and pressure shifts to the Flyers. Gotta find a new gameplan to get it by Miller. Then again, don't know if it'll matter. I was very happy we were scoring goals (5 & 4 in Games 2 & 3 then 2 shutouts in 1 & 4) against him but he seems to get on his game and stay there. Shoot.

Boucher is nearly matching him, though. Tough L for the Flyers but keep playing that way and we will be able to squeak this out.

so, does the NHL now need to rewrite the rule a bit bc of this.. if you elbow a guy thats coming at you for any type of check, you get a 5 min major, but no suspension? lol..

gotta love the NHL.. also, man, how baout Richards whining during the game, and then after in the media. wow!! is that the same guy who got on Crosby for whining? lol.. although, Sid never whined to the media..

Philly looked like they took the play to Buffalo in this one.. i watched the replay on the ipad NHL app.. should be a fun best 2 of 3 coming up!!

He should get suspended. You can't throw an elbow even to protect yourself. Even though I would have done the same thing.

Same story as game 2 for the Predators: too many dumb penalties, and Rinne let in some real bad goals (especially the short-handed one).

This is starting to resemble last year's Chicago series.

the rule doesnt have anything in it about defending yourself with an elbow. its a blow to the head, an elbow to the head. he should get at the very least 1 game, just like Kunitz!!

Yeah it is. If we lose on Friday, we'll be set up on Sunday for another playoff ending loss on home ice.
