I do not agree with this at all. Kunitz's elbow on Gagne was probably the most obvious, blatant attempt to injure I've seen yet. At least most other elbows are concealed a bit, tucked in. That was a flying elbow at its finest and dirtiest. If you ask me, Kunitz should've gotten at least the whole series, if not the whole playoffs for that. That's EXACTLY what they're trying to get rid of, that stupid, completely unnecessary hit to the head BS. There was absolutely no grey area in that hit.
Looks like Richards was trying to absorb and also dish out a little on Kaleta since he saw him coming. It wasn't a blindside hit, just seemed like an old fashioned regular elbowing penalty.
Didn't see what Richards said to the media, but I believe he had a case in receiving a 5 minute major to whining to the ref during the game. I don't think he would've cried about a 2 or even a 4 (well, some crying for a 4
), but a 5 minute major. That's a quarter of a period completely wiped out of any offense, not to mention huge stress on the PK.
Richards does have a reputation for chirping so I can't defend that but I just believe he should be a little pissed he got a 5 minute major when it should've just been a single or double minor.
