Carcillo has actually played pretty well thus far, tonight not so much at all but honestly I've been very happy with his performance in his role (more like he was used in Phoenix as opposed to what we've grown used to in Philly).

BTW, a friend of mine (Chicagoan living in Vancouver) doesn't like it when the Hawks/Canucks rivalry is played up by the media; she says that Hawks fans consider the Red Wings to be far and away their biggest, most hated rival. The Chicago press, on the other hand, practically foams at the mouth whenever Vancouver is mentioned.
What's your opinion? (Also open to SidVish and other Chicago fans on the board.) Obviously, the Wings/Hawks rivalry will endure, whereas Canucks/Hawks will fade when one/both teams are no longer in contention and certain personnel move on (ie, Wings/Avs, RIP), but if I had to guess, the majority of Hawks fans hate the Canucks more than Detroit at the present time. From my view, which is as a neutral Philadelphia Flyers fan, I'd say Blackhawks/Canucks is a hotter rivalry for right now. Like you said, once either team falls off, players come and go, it'll cool down while the CHI/DET rivalry will always be there unless Detroit is moved to the Eastern Conference.
I think what's missing between CHI/DET that really fuels the VAN/CHI rivalry is, of course, a good couple of playoff series. Both CHI and DET regularly make the playoffs these days, but only one playoff series between the two in that time. Meanwhile, CHI/VAN is a yearly playoff occurence, and as far as I know, that's exactly why they have the rivalry they do.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Fair enough. Perhaps he was over-anxious to "impress" the Hawks' faithful tonight.

Confession time? I was a Hawks fan as a kid and the rival is, without question, Detroit. My move to Minnesota right as the Wild started coupled with the Hawks being pretty much unbearable had me starting anew in my NHL fandom.Comment

This made me think of who the Wings main rival is. First teams that came to mind were Chicago, Colorado, and San Jose. The rivalry with the Avs seems to have really cooled in recent years, so for me it's either 'hawks or sharks. Sharks being the Wings version of Chicago's Vancouver "flavor of week" rivalry.
One good thing about Detroit potentially moving to the East would be rekindling the Leafs rivalry.Wolverines Wings Same Old Lions Tigers Pistons Erika ChristensenComment

I agree with Im Tellin Tim. If you're more of a recent Hawks fan you'd probably hate Vancouver more because of the recent playoff matchups. But for someone like myself who grew up with Belfour and Roenick and watching games at Chicago Stadium the biggest rival is Detroit hands down."You got it man. I don't watch hockey." Another strong effort by Boston tonight, granted it was vs the Isle, not exactly a great team by any stretch but still seeing the Bruins able to score more than 1 goal a game and actually get at least a little production out of a struggling powerplay is a good thing. Rask looked rusty a bit though.Comment

Vancouver is the hotter rivalry right now due to the past few years and if Detroit does go to the Eastern Conference this rivalry has a chance to surpass the Detroit rivalry (especially if we don't meet them in the finals anytime soon and continue running into the Canucks in the postseason).
I definitely hate Detroit more even though the rivalry hasn't been as intense as the rivalry with Vancouver of late.Favorite Teams:

Re: The Official 2011-12 Regular Season Talk Thread
Agreed, he's growing up right before our eyes, his hockey vision is just ridiculous, always seems to be where the puck is and puts passes right where they need to be. Was awesome seeing him get his first career hat trick vs the Leafs and come right back to burry another goal vs the Isle. Putting him on a line with Bergeron and Marchant has let the kid shine. Bout time Julian gives the kid a chance to play with some higher calibre line mates and give the kid enough ice time to get his feet under him.
Really nice to see Horton and Lucic start to produce as well.Comment

Insane game in Buffalo on Sabres HOF induction night. Jets score 2 quick, Sabres score 2 in a matter of like 15 seconds, and now Tanner Glass scored to put the Jets up 3-2. Still 8 min left in the first period!
EDIT: Pominville scores, 3-3!Last edited by TheMatrix31; 11-08-2011, 08:55 PM.Comment

Re: The Official 2011-12 Regular Season Talk Thread
I honestly don't know why Sacco hates Galiardi so much. When Sacco gives Gali a lot of minutes on the ice and he does well, Gali gets demoted to 4th line. He has a solid game with not a lot of minutes, he gets scratched for next game.
It's not like Kobasew or Lindstrom is playing better than Galiardi either...Comment

Nice touching tribute for Demitra and Korolev in St. Louis right now.
Quenneville and Hossa got a little choked up. It looked like Hossa wiped away a tear. Q coached both of them and Demitra was Hossa's best friend.
Hull and Tkachuk spoke and Demitra's wife read a letter.Last edited by SidVish; 11-08-2011, 09:24 PM."You got it man. I don't watch hockey." SidVish"I thought LeBron James was just going to be another addition to help me score."
