Re: The Official 2011-12 Regular Season Talk Thread
Honestly I feel like the new concussion rules are the only reason it seems like so many players are getting concussed this year.
Not to downplay the issue or anything, I just think this has been going on for a long time now, and it's just now being magnified to the point it should be, where we're all aware of who is getting concussed and those players are being held back from playing.Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. 3-0 after 2 and our only supposed real goal-scoring threat healthy is Dany Heatley. Might as well call it a night.Comment

Eh. A couple of PP goals then the dagger late in the 2nd. I wasn't expecting much out of this game.Comment

I have a feeling a ton of players played with minor concussions back in the day because I can't see how the rate has jumped up so dramatically out of thin air.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: The Official 2011-12 Regular Season Talk Thread
I was at the Avs-Flyers game tonight, and have to say, Colorado was very lucky to walk out of there with the win. They had no intensity at all in the first period and if it wasn't for Giguere, they would've been down 3-0, the way Philly was playing.
I'm obviously glad they won, but it drives me nuts to see the kids take a period off in nearly every game they play. The effort in the 2nd period was great and led to 2 goals. I felt they sat back a bit too much in the 3rd (the defense was better and I liked seeing guys giving up the body to block some shots), and it cost them the game-tying goal.
It was a treat to see Jaromir Jagr play in person. He is a lot bigger in person that what you see on TV, and he still has amazing stick skills and skated very hard tonight. I'm glad he's back in the NHL.
The game was also my first shootout experience, and it was entertaining for me and the Mrs.
Colorado has yet to lose a game we've attended! Good news for Avs fans, we have tickets to the Jets game on the 27thCurrently Playing:

Funny. Just looked at the three stars for the Wings/Oilers Game. I know stats aren't everything but come on. No love for the winning goalie or guy who scored the game winning goal? Makes no sense.
1. Datsyuk - 0G, 0A, +/- of 0
2. Khabibulin - .893 Sv%, 25/28
3. Eberle - 1GComment

I think it's a little bit of that and just a lot of awareness after Crosby's concussion problems. I've also heard that players are getting away from even going in the "quiet room" as they fake that they're feeling alright and the trainers are under the gun to make sure the player is healthy so he can go out there.

And as I'm typing this, Colby Armstrong is out indefinitely with a concussion. One he tried to hide.Comment

Yeah, it seems he hid it for a while as he likely got concussed on Saturday night and now is puking, having blurry vision and terrible headaches. In some way I feel sorry for him but in the larger context i'm not. You have to realize when it comes to the head you can't just will it away as it's going to bite you in the ***. I hope this isn't a case where he will have severe headaches and nausea for the rest of his life.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
