Swaggerville no more, there goes a possible alternative to hockey, haha.

You have a point. Plus, TSN actually knows something about hockey, which would've made it slightly entertaining...

Some informal talks are happening apparently between Fehr and Daly over brunch.

I think for those who are optimistic, if a deal isn't struck by today or early next week, no point in rushing for either side and conceding, lockout will go deep into november, early december.

I'm okay with no talks until the fall...the season should be shorter anyway. Not like this, preferably, but nevertheless...

At the end of the day, this is a business.. Me, I say screw the NHL. Yeah, I'll watch it when it comes back, but let them do what they want to do. Any fan who thinks they're important - well, that's laughable.

I've got the NFL, NCAA football, and the NBA to occupy my time.

Another step back for hockey in America... Oh, it will eventually recover, but fans have a way of letting the hurt they feel be known. I usually attend 8-10 Lightning games each year. Not this year...

I'll just give my business to the NFL/NCAA Football while the NHL is away. I don't even care who gets what chunk of the pie anymore—it's not worth my brain power. It's clear they should bring in third party mediation at this point, but instead, both sides insist on smugly goading each other from across a boardroom table.

Clean out Bettman and co., and clean out the PA brass, and get both sides re-educated on the existence of their "industry" in a context more along the lines of a public trust. Both sides' respect for the game and the fans is completely gone. Time to shake up the culture.

I'm with you in that I usually attend a handful of Avalanche games each year, but I'll be saving my money if/when the 2012-13 season starts up.

The more I read about how things are going and have gone, the less I side with the players.

Initially I was on the players side by a mile, now I've come somewhere in the middle, seems the players care less about negotiating and more about proving a point after the last lockout which Donald Fehr seems to be playing up amongst them.

Either way I care less and less each and everyday which side is right or wrong, etc. I only care that both sides wake up and get there **** together ASAP.

Re: Potential Issues with the CBA

This won't be pretty... If history under Bettman's watch is any indicator:

                          - 94-95 lockout lasted 3 months. Season shortened from 84 to 48 games.

                          - 04-05 lockout locked in a 9 month stalemate, finally seeing the season canceled. Following that lockout, the salary cap was instituted, and a 24% rollback on player salaries.

The owners now want the salary cap reduced from $70.2 million to $58 million, calling for an immediate rollback on player salaries.

How this affects my area (suburb of Tampa)...

Each ticket sold at the Forum for TB Lightning games calls for a 25 cent surcharge to the city of Tampa, AND a 50 cents to Hillsborough County (in which Tampa sits). Last season attendance averaged 18,468 for all 41 Lightning home games. This loss (should it carry for a lengthy amount of time) represents $9,234 per GAME. About half of the $300,000 the county pays toward the bond each year (used to build the arena) comes from ticket prices. If the season is lost, it will hit the county hard.

                          Little stuff that adds up...

I have to believe that there are some owners within the ownership group who simply have to go with the crowd here, but would rather meet in the middle ground that the PA is pushing.

By Bettman & co., do you mean the owners? Much as I'd like to see the likes of Ed Snyder or Jeremy Jacobs go, it might be difficult to "clean them out". And the PA brass has been completely gutted three times (Goodenow, Saskin, Kelly) in the last decade alone. Neither side has ever had respect for the game or its fans (nor do the owners or players in the NFL, NBA, or MLB), and they never will. If anything, perhaps fans should get their priorities straight and quit treating pro (and college) sports as something they can't live without. But I don't expect that to happen, either.

I'm at the the point where I just tune out any of the labor dispute updates. If they don't want to come to terms with each other forget them. I'll find better things to do.

Here's a stat for you guys.

Games lost due to labor strike/lockout since 1992 by sport NFL: 0, NBA: 504, MLB: 938, NHL: 1,698.
