Re: The Official 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs Thread
Torts is extremely tough on young players. He was extremely tough on Del Zotto last year and ultimately, sent him to the minors. I remember reading that he was very tough on Vincent Lecavalier in TB. Torts was also tough on Richards back in TB. The only vet that Torts has "punished", this year, was Gaborik. As good as Gabs can be, he is also a floater who can be incredibly lazy. Sadly, he and Richards are our only true "goal scorers".
I agree with you that Torts is just way too stubborn and he often cuts off his nose to spite his face. Yet, the Rangers young players often volunteer their praise of how he coaches them. Some go as far and suggesting he's the reason for their successes. Go figure.
This year in the playoffs he sits Thorton and has Old man Rolston out there, (why Boston even signed Rolston I'll never know he's way past his prime)
NHL Coaches are funny like that and most of them do it. Heck Mike Babcock should have Franzen on the 4th line at this point or better yet riding pine since he's about as lazy as they come. Yet he's always out there playing with guys like Dats.Comment

Re: The Official 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs Thread
To be fair, there are a lot of neutral fans when it comes to this topic. Not everyone hates on Torts or his press conference style. Unfortunately, it just seems to be such a hot topic as of late and a really dumb one at that. That meathead EJ Hradek and moron Deb Placey just made a joke about it on NHL network. Has the hockey season slowed down to the point were people actually care about how a coach acts in a press conference? Yikes!
Torts is entertaining. So are many of the NFL coaches who do the same thing. The key thing to remember is, if you are one of those fans that are so annoyed with Torts, then don't watch the press conference. Problem solved.

Sid is a great player and every team would kill to have him on their roster. Torts, as the latest hate target for many, is an accomplished coach that 4/5th of the league would love to have as their coach. Off the ice, who cares what athletes or coaches have to say. Laugh at it or ignore it."I'm the dude, playing the dude, disguised as another dude!"Comment

I can now say, with all honesty, I understand how Pens fans feel when fans of other teams constantly trash Sid. I was one of them, for a time. I realized, after a while, who the hell cares what an athlete has to say - good, bad, ugly, whining, complaining, whatever.

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of Tort. But he is an accomplished coach and is playing for a chance to advance to the Cup. He must be doing something right hahaPittsburgh Penguins
