Re: The Official 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs Thread
Shaw gets a 3 game suspension.
So this is 3 times as worse as what Carkner did? Or maybe next time Shaw should just take Smith's head and bash it into the glass?
What are Asham and Neal going to receive?
And Mike Smith is fine and will play tonight.
I give up predicting these things. It's such a farce.Comment

Re: The Official 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs Thread
What a load of crap so essentially Shaw's hit got a 4 game suspension considering he already had the game misconduct as well.
Shanahan is a joke, sure Shaw hit Smith but come on 3 freaking games in addition to the misconduct is ridiculous. At least its something that happens in hockey, Shea Weber slams another players head into the boards after time expires and he gets the maximum fine allowable thrown at him.
The NHL needs to seriously figure out a way to do suspensions a little fairly, its insane that for one you're suspending off the result of hits and they also seem to be a lot more willing to throw the book at a lesser known player while letting their superstars do whatever they want (looking at you Weber).
Better see some lengthy suspensions out of that mess in Pittsburgh or this is going to be even worse, no chance in hell this has been the worst hit of the postseason so far and to this point it is being penalized as though it is.
I really hoped things would get better with Shanahan but things are just as bad as ever.Favorite Teams:

What is throwing me into a deeper fit of rage here is the fact Shanahan says 2 playoff games = 1 regular season game or whatever stupid equation it was, so this hit was worse than Duncan Keith's blatant elbow to the head on Daniel Sedin? GMAB.

Re: The Official 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs Thread
I have been a fan since I was born. I have fond fond memories of 1994 as a rangers fan.
Hockey has changed alot, and to be honest I have no real preference. I enjoy the goonery and heavy hitting games and I also enjoy the 1-0 defensive chess battle type games.
The thing that ticks me off as a fan of the sport for 2 decades is the lack of consistency. The league has to either say we are ok with elbows and WWE tactics or we aren't and we are trying to clean up the league and protect our players. To me this wishy washy on the fence bs is the worst.Go Yankees
Go Rangers
Go Giants

All shenanigans. If he was hurt there was no way they take a chance and let him finish that game."You got it man. I don't watch hockey." SidVish"I thought LeBron James was just going to be another addition to help me score."

Re: The Official 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs Thread
That's standard for the Sharks this entire season as far as I'm concerned. Niemi is finally holding up his end for the playoffs, but scoring is absent. Who's gonna step up? Marleau, Pavelski? Maybe Couture will finally wake up. You don't give up guys like Heatley and Setoguouchi and not feel the effects of that loss. Even Mcginn was on a nice streak this year, and he was given away.
The bottom line is there is no answer for consistent firepower. You know you're in trouble when Colin White is one of your top scorers in the playoffs. Squeaking into the playoffs should have been a wake up call, but apparently it wasn't. Now let's see if being down 2-1 will do the trick.Comment

Re: The Official 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs Thread
Mike Milbury is really on a crusade about how the Shaw suspension is the correct punishment because he was "out of control" and didn't do enough to avoid the hit (baloney). Yet when Roenick brings up Weber, he quickly glosses over it and yells louder about apples and oranges. Awesome.Comment

Re: The Official 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs Thread
Alright, this here is a good example of how it can be frustrating to watch an NHL playoff game on TV:
Tonight’s Nashville Predators at Detroit Red Wings Playoff Game 4 television broadcast will be aired on SportSouth beginning at 6:30pm ct. Below are the channel locations for various TV providers:
DISH Network: 449 (SD) 9519 (HD)
DIRECTV: 651 (SD) 651-1 (HD)
AT&T U-verse: 694 (SD) 1694 (HD)
SportSouth on Comcast:
Nashville: 26 (SD) 1676 (HD)
Chattanooga: 53 (SD) 402 (HD)
Knoxville: 58 (SD) 450 (HD)
Memphis: 52 (SD) 831 (HD)
Due to a Memphis Grizzlies conflict, fans west of Jackson, TN will find the game in the following locations:
DISH, DIRECTV, AT&T U-verse: same channels as listed above.
Comcast Memphis: channel 31
Jackson Energy Authority: channel 6
Metrocast in Pontotoc, MS (Columbus/Tupelo): channel 79
***In the Atlanta area the national broadcast of the game will be shown on NBC Sports Network (formerly Versus).
****In Kentucky, the game will be on Fox Sports South. However, DISH Network in Kentucky no longer carries pro sports on Fox Sports South, so fans with DISH in Kentucky will not get the game.
Would it be too much to ask for them to pick 1 channel and show the game to everybody that gets that 1 channel?Comment

They have no heart, just watch Joe Thorton play, never goes to the front of the net unless he ultimately has to, and stays on the perimeter as much as he can. A guy his size and skill should be banging bodies out front going for gritty goals, nope not Joe Thorton, might hurt himself.Comment

Pretty much. These Sharks will likely be remembered the same way the Sacramento Kings of a decade ago are remembered. Unquestionably one of the most talented teams in the league, but will net exactly zero championships for all their efforts. The Sharks are an older team and have a thin farm system in terms of high-end prospects. The last couple years was their window, and they were easily dispatched by Chicago and Vancouver. Now they're just getting older, and their window's just about shut.Comment

Thornton's a huge problem- haven't liked the Sharks much since they acquired him.
But ultimately, it starts at the top- I think Doug Wilson has got to go and they need to blow it up completely and say goodbye to Thornton, Marleau and build with younger guys like Couture, Pavelski, etc. The signings of Vandermeer, Handzus and Winchester haven't paid off. Not sure why they got rid of McGinn.
But can the Sharks unload those guys with the big contracts- I'm not sure.
And if they can get rid of their announcer Randy Hahn, it would be like Christmas early.I Want My $2 Dollars
