    The Flames are a mess.
Feaster should have sold all his assets and started over.

And if Wideman gets that kind of deal, then I guess Suter is going to get $10M a year.

I'm an unapologetic Crosby fan, so I'm glad he's getting paid and locked up for a long time.
But this contract could become known as "The Dipietro: Part Duex" if he can't stay healthy.
But I don't think Shero and the Pens had a choice.

Fun fact; Crosby's cap hit is 8.7 mil. 8.7. 87. The kid is just obsessed with that number.

LOL, his last contract was like that too.
DOB: 08/07,1987, haha! 87 was destined to be his number! Right between the digits 99 and 66.

both sides have an "out" if he gets hurt long term etc. so really no risk as far as i can tell.

or did i read that wrong today?

edit - didnt mean an "out" as in get out of contract, but it wont count against the cap, so again, no worries..

Not sure but Bobby Mac is speculating somewhere between 55M~60M. So 5.5M~6M cap hit.

Edit: Seems like 58M is the total number, 5.8M cap hit.

If Bernier continues to play well, that could be a bargain.

If he continues to have concussion issues then that's a HUGE price to pay for a guy who may retire before the contract is up.

What happens if he retires though?

I always assumed that the team was released from the contract if a player retires.

I'm sure there'll be language in there about paying insurance and taking the rest of the contractual obligations off the cap.

Real money: Sid's worth a whole lotta off-ice $$$ to the Pens, even if he's only playing partial seasons. It's not as if they'll have trouble finding the money to pay him.

Salary cap: If Sid misses large amounts of playing time, the Pens get cap relief. If he retires, no cap hit (unlike players whose contracts kick in after they turn 35, ie Pronger).

The only real issue is if Sid's injuries gradually leave him able to play, but not nearly to his full capabilities (ie, Lindros, Lafontaine). A possibility, but worth the risk IMO.

Hmmm. You mean as opposed to every other player's contract? I'm guessing the language in his contract is the same as if he was considered completely healthy. To the best of my knowledge, the CBA doesn't allow anything different. Whether the Penguins can actually get the contract insured is a different matter, but that's strictly a money issue on Pittsburgh's end, nothing to do with cap hit or the $$$ Sid will pocket.
