Re: The Official 2014-15 Regular Season Talk Thread
This "Hockey Day in Canada," "Hockey Day in America" thing got me thinking.....what about an Original Six Day?
12:30: Blackhawks/Rangers
4:00: Red Wings/Maple Leafs
7:30: Bruins/Canadiens
Really any combination would work, I suppose. Surprised (not really) the NHL hasn't thought of this.
By the way, the Flyers equipment manager has come up with a new seat warming device for the penalty box, if any team wants to purchase it:

I know what you're going for, but only dyed in the wool fans would probably care about this. I think the NHL wants that wide appeal to grab more young fans.

Five of the six O6 teams are above average teams/franchises right now. Putting good teams against good teams on national TV appeals to "young fans," whatever that means. I'm not quite sure what that does mean, anyway. Taking one Sunday out of the year to promote the Original Six, teams which are in major media markets, have massive followings, and play quality hockey (save Toronto), is going to do harm to whatever market strategy the NHL is trying to deploy?Comment

Re: The Official 2014-15 Regular Season Talk Thread
Hockey is never going to have wide appeal to the losers you're talking about reaching. Let them stick to garbage sports like basketball.
For actual hockey fans, an Original Six day would be awesome.Comment

I can't believe it only took the Wild about 15 games to make up the points to get in a playoff spot.Comment

Of course for ACTUAL hockey fans and O6 day could have some appeal, but that's not the only thing we're talking about.
For ACTUAL fans of any certain thing, THAT thing would be awesome, ya think?Comment

Re: The Official 2014-15 Regular Season Talk Thread
My point is that hockey is a niche sport. And my becoming a fan of it came out of necessity to diminish the drivel I was being inundated with from the NBA. Other people aren't looking for that replacement. I'm not crazy about expanding the sport to people who have made those other sports insufferable to continue to follow, nor do I think they're even interested.
I like the prospect of continuing to learn about and appreciate the game and the league without those undesirable elements infiltrating it and ruining this for me too.Last edited by TheMatrix31; 02-23-2015, 05:50 AM.Comment
