I wouldn't be shocked if eventually 24 teams were part of the playoff landscape in one fashion or another.

That's why I wonder why the NHL even bothers feigning any level of credibility and just allows all 30 teams into the playoffs.

Nhl wants to for money obviously. More games, more money. There's nothing wrong with old nhl format/current nba format, best 8 per conference.

Even if expansion happens, no reason to mess with things alot. 4 divisions per conference and best 4 non division winners get in. Or if its just 2 divisions, top 2 get home advantage while next best 4 get in or something?

The way they are going they should just have two conferences East and West. Top 8 make it in each conference and just play a balanced schedule.

          I like that format too.

          I wouldn't even mind the old-time format of #1-#16.
With how physical the game has become, reduce the games from 82 to 62 (when they get to 32 teams).

Home and Away across the board with the top 16 going to the playoffs.

Even if they had 70 games, to keep some rivalry's going and what not.

              32 teams,2 conferences,8 divisions,4 teams per division.
              Face 3 others within division 6 times=18gms
Face 12 others in own conference 4 times=48gms
Face 16 in other conference once=16 gms
              Total=82gms

For other conference, it alternates every year between home and road. So one year, your division plays division a&b at home and c&d on road, next year a&b are road and c&d is home.

Either that,or just make unbalanced schedule vs rest of conference. Home and home vs opposing conference,4 vs own division,3 vs others in your conference. That total is 80gms

I like 4 team division cause the rivalries are more intense. Current format...as leaf fan,i feel no connection at all vs lightning or panthers, despite them being in division, and sometimes playing them more than habs/sens! 4 team division, and you got leafs, sens, habs,qc in one, nyr/nyi/njd/buf in another, bos/det/pit/phi in another,van/cgy/edm/wpg in another...talk about rivalries!

When will the NHL introduce a 'Best Forward Award'?
Goalies and Defenseman can win an award specifically for their position, as well as the Hart trophy.
I know the forwards have the Art Ross and Rocket Trophy, but neither really reward the player for being the best overall forward for the season.
If they don't win the Hart, they're basically SOL.

I think it's time they made a Gordie Howe award to honour the leagues best overall forward.
(if they include having a personality into the criteria, Jonathan Toews would never win. BOOM!)

They kinda did. He never had a true partner on D. Leafs D depth during his entire time here was horrible. They had seasons where goaltending was top half of the league, scoring was around top 10, but D(specifically shots on goals) was so high up,it basically erased all that.

Going to Ottawa, guessing paired up with Karlsson, should be better for him.

Two bad Canadian teams exchange a bunch of bad players. It's an HFBoards wet dream come true.

Dion should do pretty good in Ottawa, at least in this and next season.

He is probably a #2D on a good team and I think that will be the case in Ottawa.

And as someone said, Leafs did good job, putting Dion with good player(Gardiner) and lowering his minutes and improved his starts.

I like this trade also for Leafs, now they have a lot of cap-space for 2017, but hopefully they can use it already in 2016

And hopefully Cowen will be good with Gardiner, they will for sure try him on 2nd pair this season. Hopefully he will contribute and develop a little bit more under Babcock.
Michalek is good winger, but he is injured at the moment, but he could be pretty useful next season.

Interesting hockey trade, and Toronto got a 2nd, that is good.
