Let me get this straight; the Wild sign Eric Staal for half the term and cost than Nielsen?
      Check please!

Did the owner in Tampa win the lottery or something? I'm not used to them spending this kind of money.

Cheaper than I expected, great signing.

Still think I would've let Stamkos go and kept more of the other pieces they have but can't even hate the Stamkos signing given the price they locked him in at.

Will be curious to see who else they opt to build around now, obviously Bishop goes but still lots of decisions to be made.

Vinik bought the team in 2010 and has completely turned it around. No idea about his financial situation but he's been nothing but supportive of the team and community since then and it seemingly showing

Vasilevsky now also has a 3yr/3.5 a season contract

Great work by Yzerman and their team. Signed some good deals, especially Hedman's deal will be a steal. Even Stamkos' deal is great, they will be really strong.

I expect Kucherov for 5M AAV, maybe a little bit more, for 6 years.

And yeah, a lot of todays signings will be bought.out in 4 years.

Wouldn't be a proper offseason if someone from MN or with MN ties didn't come home and sign with the Wild... Lol

Such a good deal from Tampa's perspective for Hedman.

Red Wings signing Vanek is setting my klaxons off. I think Nyquist or Tatar are about to be moved for defense help. I fear it might be Fowler.

And now the Red Wings sign Steve Ott.

                        1) WHAT THE ****.

                        2) Way too many forwards now. Trade is definitely in the works.

Seriously, this is the Red Wings' forward situation now:

                          Larkin - Zetterberg - Abdelkader
                          Tatar - Nielsen - Nyquist
                          Vanek - Sheahan - Helm
                          Mantha - Glendening - Athanasiou

                          Ott, Jurco, Pulkkinen, Frk, Miller.

                          1) Frk will almost certainly be lost to waivers now.

                          2) Why in the **** would you re-sign Drew Miller if you're going to sign Steve Ott?

                          3) Which sort of top 4-ish defenseman would you think you'd give up for one of Nyquist/Tatar + one of Jurco/Pulkkinen? Jacob Trouba is probably too optimistic. Cam Fowler would be the Ducks robbing Detroit blind.

What a day for Wings fans.
                              Holland has:
                              - signed 30-point, bottom 6 forward Darren Helm to a 5 year, $3.85 AVV contract (nearly twice the term and 3x the salary compared to Eric Staal - who's 2 years older and scored more points between 05-07 than Helm has his entire career)
                              - Signed 50-point, 32YO Neilsen to a 6 year $30M+
                              - Signed trainwreck Tomas Vanek to one-year $2.6m contract.
                              - Signed Steve Ott. Steve. Effing. Ott. I don't care if it was for minimum wage and an expired Subway coupon. This is Steve Ott. OTT!!!!

For the record, I don't mind Vanek so much. He could rebound and be a good scorer in a top-9 capacity.
Nielsen is a good forward but I don't want to be married to him for 6 years.
I don't even need to go into why I dislike the Ott signing.

I guess we're not going to let our young kids take charge then.
That worked out great with Brad Richards.

I agree Psyblast, this all wreaks of a deal for a dman. It better be a good deal.
But I simply don't trust Holland's capability of doing that.

Why, oh why, did we let Jim Nill walk in favour of Holland.

Vanek for one year at 2.6 is not a bad at all.

He's blindingly frustrating at times, but there's plenty of offensive skill there. Every once in a while he has one of those "Holy crap" moments on offense.
