Weird trade in my opinion. They did not get much better and they also did not get younger. Maybe they are hoping that Brassard can be around 60 points or even better in the next few seasons, while they think Zibanejad already hit his peak, that is 50 points?

Is it because they have to become really competitive before Karlsson hits UFA?

I like their choice of coach, so I hope they do well. Maybe Mika didn't fit in new system?

^ It was a salary dump to try and clear space for a run at Shattenkirk. And Mika is 3 years younger than Brass, so they did get younger.

I see now that I forgot to write Sens inthere.
This trade makes quite some sense for Rangers. They really need a good defensemen. And Brassard is good player, and I know that fans loved him for his playoff performances, but Mika is younger and might reach his level, maybe as early as next season.

But from Sens perspective, I don't get it. Maybe they hope that Brassard will wakeup Ryan?

Not particularly. I was kinda hoping you'd tell me to stick it where the sun don't shine and that Schiefele is going to be a top-10 player in the NHL going forward. It appeared to me that instead of agreeing with or refuting my points, you just kept moving the goalposts of your argument, and that brings out my ornery side. Regardless, I apologize for my tone.

There are many contracts that are potentially better or worse than his.
With Laine as his possible winger this season, I don't think it's out of the range of possibilities he scores 70+ this season.
            Fair enough. Peace.

Wings resign Glendening to a 4-year, $7.2M contract:
A bigger payout could have been awaiting Detroit Red Wings forward Luke Glendening when he became an unrestricted free agent after next season.

Is Holland following Pete Chiarelli's plan of locking up bottom-6 forwards to outrageous deals?

I like Glendening, but at nearly $2M/year?
It also means $5.65M/year on him and Helm combined. Two 4th line guys. Great.

It will win you a cup and give you a run at 2nd but 2 years after you will be trading Larkin for a bag of pucks.

Rangers extend Kreider (4 years, 18.5 million) and Kevin Hayes (2 years, 5.2 million). Very reasonable.

I like Helm, but he's superfluous with all of the other signings this offseason. Glendening is a possession anchor, but management loves him so we're stuck with him as our 4th line center.

I like both players too. But Kenny clearly overpaid to keep both of them.
Helm's speed was an asset 5 years ago, but it's like half the players in the NHL are as fast as he is now.

I think all of this is to just remain competitive to keep that friggin' playoff streak alive in hopes of selling out the new Joe.
I understand that. I'm sure Kenny's getting marching orders from above.
But I wouldn't mind seeing this team miss a few postseasons in order to develop some of the young talent.
I'd much rather watch players like Mantha and Callahan cut their teeth than dinosaurs like Miller, Ott and one-dimensional players like Helm and Glendenning eat-up minutes in a mediocre season.

Leafs to sign Enroth as their backup G.

Nice duo they'll have with Enroth and Andersen. Lets hope those 2 actually can work out, cause Leafs the past few decades haven't had the best of history in terms of goaltending. These guys will be facing more shots than they're used to, so lets hope they can still stop a high percentage of them.

Danny Dekeyser signed 6 yrs 5 M per. More or less market value.

EDIT: Mrazek 2 years, 4 M per. We're over the cap now.

Speaking of being over...The Lightning have 50 contracts at the moment but still haven't signed Kucherov or Nesterov. They only have about 6.5M in cap space too(20 main roster guys currently count against that cap). Killorn and Hedman are the only guys on their team making over 3.5M who don't have NTC/NMC this upcoming season, and obviously neither will be moved.

So who knows what the Lightning will even be able to do to not only make space on their roster, but be able to sign both guys for under 7M combined.

Nesterov is most likely gone, especially with koekkek's play improving. Fillpula is most likely getting traded if his clause stuff gets worked out.
