    Re: Seattle Kraken (coming 2021-2022)

News is trickling out about protection lists. Most interesting names are Vladimir Tarasenko and Carey Price.

If I were Seattle, I'd pass on Price, but I'd probably take the gamble on Tarasenko. 29 years old with 2 years left on his deal at 7.5 M. Worst case scenario, you could buy him out after one season. Best case scenario is you get a bonafide top line winger. The opportunity cost here is Vince Dunn, who is fine, but unlikely to ever be a player to regret not selecting over Tarasenko.

Ovechkin and Price actually being part of the Kraken would be the craziest moment in expansion draft history for any league.

Sure, Price has a huge deal and Ovechkin is all but likely signing back with the Caps, but I want to see the pure chaos from that.

Ovechkin popping up on the unprotected players list to someone who might be looking back at the list in 10-20 years might raise both eyebrows to someone who might not have known he was a UFA.

On the Leafs front, sounds like Kerfoot could be the guy taken. So the McCann deal just gets Kerfoots replacement.

That's 500k saved this season that the Leafs can spend on some other guy who can contribute to the playoff teams goal of winning a cup only to be eliminated in the 1st round in the cruelest way possible (blowing a 3-0 lead is my guess at 2022s choke job)

As we await what SEA decides with Carey Price, word is that the Kraken are closing in on FLA’s Chris Driedger at 3x$3.5M. I dont believe that precludes them from selecting Price, but one goalie appears locked-in.

On paper nobody was expecting Vegas to do what they did.

But I think this Seattle team could look better on paper than Vegas did coming out of their draft. Only time will tell if they can come close to Vegas success.

Looks like the expansion draft will go the way of the NBA draft. Picks being spoiled before they're announced.

So I guess Giordano is the biggest name. They took Dunn over Tarasenko.

I know picks are being announced already, and some UFA have been signed, and trades have been made, but I'll do my best mock draft given everything, mostly avoiding current UFAs.

It's interesting to see how much Seattle is using their picks to go after UFAs. Different strategy than Vegas.

The spoiled picks have ben underwhelming so far. There must be some interesting side deals then.

Definitely has to be trades out there.

And cap space as well which could be used to go after some good FA.

They must have had some conversations where they were confident they could wait until proper free agency rather than burn a pick. They left a lot of cap space open, and cap space is really only valuable if you can use it.

I wonder if they'd go the LTIR route.

There's bound to be a team with a LTIR guy that Seattle could trade for and get a pick out of it.

Theres not as many anymore compared to when we saw guys like Horton, Clarkson and others, but still a few left.

Francis picked a really bad team and reports are that they have no trades arranged beforehand.

0 trades and those are the guys they picked?

Their division is probably the weakest of the 4, so anything is possible with the playoffs. Based on that current roster though, I'd say they'd be a team in the 70 point range.

Interesting though that Leafs gave up Hallander and a 7th to make sure that Kerfoot wasn't taken. If McCann was on the Pens, he would've been gone anyways, so it worked out for the Pens.

Sad part, they probably filmed the Lynch stuff a few times and that was the best one.

If the NHL wants to grow their game, maybe they shouldn't have guys on TV boasting about really just liking hockey because of (mostly non existant) fights, and making hockey seem like the up and coming sport with guys who try hard, and acting like the foreign names are the hardest things in the world to pronounce.
