Re: NHL 2020 Offseason
Why the hell did the Rangers sign Jack Johnson? The entire NHL knows his career has been over for about 4 seasons. He's literally the worst advanced stats D in the entire NHL. I don't care if he paid us 1m to play. Zero interest of ever seeing him in a Rangers sweater. Ugh.Yankees, Manchester United, Chicago Bears, New York RangersComment

Re: NHL 2020 Offseason
Bobby Ryan and Jon Merrill to Detroit. Stopgaps until next year I suppose, and potential deadline fodder. Rumor has it they might be a landing place for Fleury.
I don't know what surprises me more with the Murray contract: that he got paid so much or than Eugene Melnyk is opening up his wallet.
Helps with cap floor, and Sens get 2 picks while only paying 1.5m in salary.Comment

Re: NHL 2020 Offseason
Leafs out of running for Pietrangelo.
They sign Brodie for 4 years,5M per year.
Brodie,Muzzin,Rielly at the top should be good, but I still hope they could add 1 more right shot dman.
Last offseason the Leafs had a deal in place with Flames to deal Kadri for Brodie but Kadri didnt waive his NTC.
Instead, Kadri dealt for Barrie and Kerfoot, and now Leafs used money gained partially from Barrie being gone to sign Brodie, all while having Kerfoot for now, which I'd imagine they move him to clear some cap, and get a pick out of it.Last edited by Majingir; 10-09-2020, 08:16 PM.Comment

Re: NHL 2020 Offseason
Interesting note on the Brodie deal. Leafs seemed to structure it with no signing bonuses, and back loaded. So when it comes to the expansion draft, would Seattle be willing to pay Brodie around 18m for 3 years? 5m cap hit regardless, but paying 18m for the final 3 years might keep them away.
This could give Leafs 1 extra player to protect, as they could leave Brodie unprotected and Seattle still likely passes on him.
Rielly must be the happiest. In his time here, he's been partnered up with Gardiner, Hainsey,Zaitsev,Ceci and others. He finally has an actual guy worthy of playing alongside with.
When it was between Leafs and Vegas, I figured Vegas has the edge.
Let's say he signs for 8m in Vegas, to offset the tax difference the Leafs probably would need to offer 9m or more, so clearly they couldn't.Last edited by Majingir; 10-10-2020, 11:14 AM.Comment

Re: NHL 2020 Offseason
Tyson Barrie to Oilers for 1 year,4m.
Apparently he turned down a deal for 6m.
He's from BC, so this at least gets him closer to home, perhaps it was another reason for taking less money.
But the trend continues.
Oilers get Barrie who used to play for Leafs
Leafs get Brodie who used to play for Flames
Flames get Tanev who used to play for CanucksLast edited by Majingir; 10-10-2020, 02:10 PM.Comment

Re: NHL 2020 Offseason
Maybe Barrie thinks playing with Draisaitl and McDavid can enhance his numbers enough to secure a big boy contract next offseason.
Wings add Troy Stetcher and Thomas Greiss. We needed a goalie to expose in the expansion draft, so Greiss makes sense and should be a decent enough tandem with Bernie this year. Stetcher is a nice low risk medium reward signing rebuilding teams should make, especially with all the kids loaned out to Europe. Wings still need another forward, ideally one to expose with Neilsen.
At this point, my guess is the playoff push comes in 2022-23. We're gonna suck hard this season and in 2021-22 we'll get to see the kids return from Europe. It wouldn't shock me to see Yzerman try to accelerate plans either.Comment

Re: NHL 2020 Offseason
Barrie will probably be on the 3rd pairing D while being on PP1, perfect fit for him to put up points while being sheltered defensively.
Sabres gave more money to Cody Eakin and Zemgus Girgensons than Jesper Fast. Someone save Eichel.
Nichushkin got a 2 year extension with the Avs, my day is made.Last edited by Kobalt; 10-10-2020, 06:41 PM.Comment

Re: NHL 2020 Offseason
Canucks fans finding out what happens when you give 1/3 of your cap space to dead weight: Eriksson, Sutter, Beagle, Roussel, Ferland, Myers, plus a buyout of Ryan Spooner (!) and Luongo's retirement poison pill = 30M. This year's playoff run was likely our "2017 Oilers" moment.Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that. Re: NHL 2020 Offseason
I also wonder if Barrie maybe wants to play in Seattle after that?
As for the Leafs, they dealt Johnsson to NJ and signed Bogosian. 1 year, 1M.
So their D is now Rielly,Muzzin,Brodie,Bogosian,Lehtonen,Holl,Dermot t.
But Holl and Dermott I could see both being moved depending what else happens, like Kerfoot also being moved.Last edited by Majingir; 10-10-2020, 10:34 PM.Comment

Re: NHL 2020 Offseason
Welp, there's the forward. Namestnikov, 2 years, 2 M per. I like it, dude can play basically anywhere. With that, I imagine Yzerman is done shopping unless a great opportunity comes his way. Next up is extending Bertuzzi and Mantha.Comment

Re: NHL 2020 Offseason
I said this in what turned out to be Tim Murray's last season at the helm, but it seems we're reaching that point again with Buffalo. If they can't make the playoffs now, then what?Comment
