Even more reason I hate the playoff format.

Its probably just Panthers,Lightning,Leafs battling for the division spot with the other 2 facing off. And Canes,Pens,Rangers in their division (although Canes already seem like the faves to win, so it might just be Pens/Rangers competing to see who gets home ice).

In the central, it's the Avs in 1st for sure, so the other 2 spots will be teams competing to see who gets home ice.

If you had the regular 1-8 seeds, there isn't a single team locked in to any position in the east (Rangers in 6 have a shot to be in any of the other 5 seeds above, or drop to the 7 or 8 seed).

And in the west, the 2nd seed in the central could be the 2 seed in the entire west, meaning they'd play the 7 seed, rather than the current projections of a 2v4 matchup in rd1, and the 5 seed getting home ice facing the 7 seed!

But it's the NHL so who cares. They're just asking for a future cup finals featuring the 9th seed Coyotes who made it in due to a division spot, playing a cup finals game infront of under 5000 fans.

I’m rooting hard for the Coyotes to be in as many nationally televised (so only the playoffs for them) games in that bandbox as possible. I wanna see how goofy the NHL looks for it
      NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
      NFL - Buffalo Bills
      MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Can't wait to see an NHL team outdrawn by the Belleville Senators, or better yet, the Idaho Steelheads.

Matthews is tearing up the league. Three more goals tonight. Best Leafs player I've ever seen. (I'm old not old enough to have seen Dave Keon or the likes of Frank Mahovllch)

Mats Sundins teams had a decent amount of success in the playoffs (made it to conference finals a few times) but the team around him really wasn't so good, and he never really had true top line wingers for long.

Matthews is almost the opposite. No success in the playoffs despite a much better team around him and legit top line guys.

Leafs and Oilers are wasting the years of 2 of the best players in hockey.

Landeskog going on LTIR, there's the cap space for Giroux/Miller/anyone with a pulse so JMFJ and MacDermid stops playing every day

The Canucks are in a weird spot. Vancouver has the 5th best record in the league (2nd best in the West behind Colorado) since Boudreau was hired in early December, yet they probably have only a 1-in-3 shot of making the playoffs. Miller's in the top 10 in NHL scoring and is under contract until 2023 at a reasonable cap hit. The Canucks have to be asking for an absurd haul in return, but what Cup contender can or will pay it?

Except for Pittsburgh. But in general you're correct.

                        Matthews suspended 2 games.

Don't you love it when the NHL goes after these goons who constantly go after others while never being punched or checked themselves?

Between all those years of Kadri being suspended, Spezza 6 games this year, the many non calls/suspensions when Leafs get mugged, and now this, the league is a joke.

My read on that situation is that Vancouver will hold onto him and try to compete next year, with their thinking being that their current run under BBQ Bruce is the "real" Canucks. Not sure if that's the right move or not, but that's just my read on their ownership and FO.

Colorado trades a 2nd and Drew Helleson for Josh Manson.

Most likely correct. Half the fanbase thinks we're going to be the 2019 Blues, which helps explain why the Canucks have been floundering for the last decade and have never won a Cup.

I know Sakic loves his top prospects but I honestly believe he would move Newhook in a package for Miller with his contract status. Obviously up to Vancouver if they want to move him or not.

Canucks are bonkers not to move Miller now. You can only get 3/8 points at home vs WSH/TB/NJ/DET? With a COL/MIN/DAL/STL road trip immediately after the deadline? Time to get real. When is Vancouver ever going to have a more marketable commodity again? ****, try to get Newhook AND Byram from Burnaby Joe.
