Wings are there too somewhere.
Well, that's the point. It should be far easier to compete for a playoff spot in the East than in the West. Tampa's getting old and got LTIR'd themselves by Vegas, the Leafs are weaker than they've been the last few seasons, and the Metro only has 2 good teams (until the Devils get a goalie). The Wings, Sabres, and Senators should have something to show for their rebuilds by now; there's no way they should be worse than Philly at this point. I'll give Montreal a break since they're still mid-rebuild (and had a recent inexplicable SCF run).

Gonna need a metro riff raff takedown of the Leafs tonight. Sounds like Marner won’t be going for TO, so let’s get em while they’re down.

        NFL - Buffalo Bills
        MLB - Cincinnati Reds

The Leafs are the weirdest injury team ever.

Other than Marner (although they won their last game without him), they play BETTER when one of their top guys is out.

Forgot the stat, but think they were playing .600 hockey the last 5 years when Matthews, Nylander, Tavares or Rielly is out.

          Edit-Found it

Just such a weird stat. Unfortunately the numbers are worse when Marners out, which you know his agent, I mean his dad, I mean his dad and his agent, will use to squeeze every last dollar out of the Leafs to keep Mitch around after 2025 because he's the last guy on this team who'd ever think about a pay cut.

Perfectly timed nose-dive by the Wings, heading into the playoff push. Which Wings team is real? The one that was trending toward being a contender in the East and beating top teams, or the one that went 2-8 at the most critical juncture of the season? Both? Neither?

I suppose all that talk about their 5-on-5 futility wasn't BS after all, though.

NHLs BoG meeting addressing the pressing issue in hockey that fans and media have been clamouring to fix for years.

              EBUGs, are they necessary?

Yes, that's part of a major meeting with the highest ranking people in the NHL.

I didn't realize Larkin was this important, he goes out a couple weeks and the team gets annihilated

I think it's probably coincidental to his absence, but him not playing isn't helping the cause for sure.

I'm sorta thinking it's the odds catching up to us after a hot streak to start the year. Such is life for the not-quite-ready-for-prime-time teams.

on the plus side, Lucas Raymond has been great, first Wing 21 or younger with a 5 game goal streak since the Captain (who did it like 4 times lol)

I don't think the Canucks are going to win the Presidents' Trophy (I would prefer they didn't TBH), and I'm not expecting much in the playoffs, but what Tocchet & co. have accomplished to date is bonkers:

                      2015-16: 28th overall, 29th GF, 24th GA
                      2016-17: 29th overall, 29th GF, 24th GA
                      2017-18: 26th overall, 27th GF, 26th GA
                      2018-19: 23rd overall, 25th GF, 20th GA
                      2019-20: 19th overall, 8th GF, 19th GA (made postseason)
                      2020-21: 24th overall, 24th GF, 26th GA
                      2021-22: 18th overall, 18th GF, 9th GA
                      2022-23: 22nd overall, 13th GF, 24th GA
                      2023-24 (as of March 23): 1st overall, 4th GF, 4th GA

                      # of teams in the last 50 years that finished 1st overall the season after missing the playoffs: 1 (the 93/94 Rangers, who won Presidents' Trophies in '92 and '94 and missed the playoffs the season in-between)

Got to take in the Flyers win over Boston yesterday, first game for my son. His favorite player, Travis Konecny, scored twice and my favorite young guy on our team, Tyson Foerster, got the GWG with about a minute and a half left. Hell of an ending and one of the better games I’ve been to over the years.

Got talking to a couple near us and the Bruins fan revealed he had a relation to Tony & Phil Esposito. Casually name dropping legendary NHL bloodlines, ha. Was awesome.

I haven't been able to watch most of this season but for highlights due to illness. From what I've seen, Vasy seems to be giving up goals he NEVER EVER would have, but for this season. Why is that? I know the defense has been bad, but some of what I've seen from Vasy just doesn't seem very characteristic of him. I understand he was hurt and had surgery, but his save percentage is unlike him at all. Saves he has always made, he's not making. Can someone please give an explanation as to why you believe this is happening to him this season? Other than the bad defense of course. Would be very much appreciated.

I mean, you've already answered your own question. "He's played 50 more games than anyone else over the last 4+ seasons, his defence is worse than ever before, he missed training camp, he had major back surgery, why isn't Vasilevskiy in Vezina form?"

Vasy may be healthy enough to play, but that doesn't mean he's 100%. Any time a goalie is coming back from back/hip/groin/knee surgery, you've got to temper your expectations. Next season, following a summer of rest/rehab and a full training camp, you should get a good idea of when/if prime Vasilevskiy will return on a regular basis.

Didn't I tell Winnipeg a couple weeks ago that they need to win their division?

Maybe they're trying to let the Preds pass them, take their chances with the Pacific instead.
