He’s been terrible mainly because whether it’s concussion or Jack Johnson. He unfortunately peaked during the SC finals when he was the best DMan on the team. He needed a change of scenery.

When Toews was re-signed, they had a logjam at LD which meant Girard (who also hasn’t been as good and has a bigger contract) or Byram was gonna be dealt.

Avs filled their biggest hole on the roster while dealing from their “strength.” Also got rid of RyJo, hell of a day from MacFarland.

I hope my team is as unfortunate someday!

Walker been good for Philly too so solid reinforcements. So Johansen has fallen from where he was *checks notes* 10 years ago? I legit remember his first couple years with CBJ and then the trade to NSH… and how it was going to break him out totally. Sounds like the opposite, lol. I blame Money99 for this opinion and thought!

Seems to be a player Philly could use to secure a playoff spot this year but then going in to next year dangle him out as trade bait for someone else, pretty much what happened with Walker after getting him from LA last offseason. I’m not expecting much, just like this Flyers season.

GM Briere in a weird spot with the team in playoff position but not even close to Cup contention. So glad he’s making smart moves and setting the foundation for long term success, I really believe in him (now tell me how his moves have been awful, haha). Philly been flying by the seats of their pants for a solid 20-30 years. It doesn’t fly anymore.

EDIT: Well they’re putting RJ on waivers lol

Yep, my Leafs looked ready for the playoffs with another loss to the Bruins. Just 20 games to figure out if we play Boston or Florida in the first round. Oh joy.

And the NHL still doesn't see a problem with that.

Even if the teams traded series wins over a few years, it just gets boring when in February or March you basically know your general fate.

Leafs will be 3rd, on the road against the 2 seed who will be better than the other divisions 1 seed. Stop me if you've heard that before.

1-8 format badly needs to come back to make things fun again. Rangers are at the top of the division, just playing to retain the 1 seed. Or with 1-8 they'd be behind Bruins and Panthers for 1 or 2 so there's more to play for, while Leafs are just 4 behind and can catch up.

6-8 would be up for grabs and nobody will know where any of those teams finish, with an outside chance of the 9 seed getting in.

The league really sacrifices 1-2 months of excitement so they can have 2-3 weeks of division matchups in the playoffs.

Yes, in 2017/18 and 2018/19. The Leafs have started the last 4 postseasons with home ice advantage.

If the Leafs had beaten Columbus or Montreal when they had their chance, I'd be more sympathetic to their plight when they have to play Boston.

Yes, in 2017/18 and 2018/19. The Leafs have started the last 4 postseasons with home ice advantage.

If the Leafs had beaten Columbus or Montreal when they had their chance, I'd be more sympathetic to their plight when they have to play Boston.

I'd be more sympathetic to my own team's plight if they actually won the Atlantic Division and played a wild card instead of consistently finishing second or third.

There's merit to a 1-8 format but I'm not going to blame the NHL for my team's playoff match up.

I'm not saying the format is to blame for the Leafs losing, I'm saying it's just not as exciting watching regular season this time of the year when you're not really playing for seeding and you're not scoreboard watching to see if someone might drop from 2 to 3 or go from 6 to 4.

TSN lucked out today. More semi-relevant trades than usual on deadline day. (Probably because there are 10-13 teams who can envision themselves as Cup contenders if they squint hard enough.)

Not really.

Rangers for instance, they're 4 up on the Canes, but that's the only team to watch.

If it's 1-8, they're within 6 points of 1st or 2nd and 4 points from dropping to 5th. Lots of maneuvering still to be done.

I'm rooting for the Rangers to drop to 2nd so we get Rangers/Isles or Rangers/Flyers.
