i think the games are ok. Some have taken a step back, but others improve some things.

my favorite golf game of all time is outlaw golf - the first one, the second one wasn't as good and had much longer loading times.

the actual golf was damn good, and it was fun and nice to look at, and the characters were great.

Creating players with little attributes and this time using the wind guage and again not using the zoom feature we created 4 different versions of each course using course arcitect ... you would'nt believe how many fairways can be missed in 2005.

Basically the same with 2006 but this time the course arcitect does it for you.

      2007 we don't play ... biggest reason can't miss a fairway.

2008 we take pro players and go head to head ... for the first time we can actually miss fairways!!! (THANKYOU) alot of people say the swing mechanics are now to touchy, does'nt bother me none.

But playing tournaments in the TW series by myself blows BIGTIME ... not one yr have I been able to get through it without being bored crazy by the end of the first round.

I know some people like to play alone, the game goes much faster ... just wish they would give us an option, or, add a simple tournament mode where I can pick any course I want to play, choice of one to four rounds and be able to add cpu or other human players "one to four players" to play with while also being able to look at the leaderboard to see how I/we stand.

Then I would like this game alot more  other then that I've only liked head to head gaming with this series.
The bad thing is that golf games have done this in the past and now we don't have it for a lot of different reasons. Sports games have taken a big step back in the past five years, but maybe I'm just old and miss the good old days where I didn't need to be wowed by how good the graphics looked.

Can't they do a play by play shot annoucing. Just adding a caddie coach is completly a gimmic. We still don't see caddies in the game. So tell me why do people like his games?
For one, don't come here claiming Tiger Woods' games suck when you have only played one...

The crowds are way larger than before, especially if you're going for the win on a sunday it seems like your crowd will be bigger...

The announcing shouldn't matter because if you don't like it then you can turn it off...

You should at least rent Tiger Woods 08 before coming here and making yourself look like an ***...

I haven't played a TW game since 04 on PS2. But I will be picking up 09. I miss playing golf games and I think the online aspect can keep me interested for a long time. The thing that I hope they fix that I heard was bad from 08 is the rubberband AI when playing in tourneys. I can deal with the rest

I don't understand why everyone likes video game basketball games. Im mean sure Double Dribble was fun, but the graphics are not that impressive.

Re: Why does everyone like Tiger Wood's game so much???

I certainly don't get the idea that everyone likes the Tiger Woods games that much. I've seen more railing against it than for it, particularly over the last three years. I've enjoyed each of them for a while: 2006: 2 months, 2007: 6 months, 2008: 5 months, but once they fall into disfavor with me, they fall hard. Quite honestly, I'm astonished that a next-generation console golf game can be as shallow in terms of presentation options, genuine tournament atmosphere, and have as unengaging an interface as Tiger Woods 06-08.

Links 2004 has withstood the test of time better than any console golf game I've ever played, mostly because of the token amount of inertia modeling in its interface and its varied camera presentation (ie. not a steady diet of ball-cam). It also has a fully proportional putter, which Tiger apparently will still lack in 09. I don't like the way Links 2004 shows AI players in action any more than Tiger 06-08. A constantly-orbiting camera is just as annoying as stroke camera followed by ball-cam, IMO.

I don't know where you're getting the idea that everyone likes Tiger Woods games so much, unless it's based on a non-representative sample. I don't think this game is anywhere near as popular as it could be if its game design matched its graphics. IOW, it looks like it ought to play a lot better than it does, IMO.

I have tried every year except last year's version when the catchup score bug was announced in Tour Mode.

I am pretty much done with Tiger until they get the Tour Mode right. I don't care about goofy challenges. I don't understand why team sports, NFL and such, get real seasons, but it is near impossible for any other sports game to have an accurate reflection of the real season sport.

I can empathize with you on this score thelwig! This game has fallen well short of producing PGA Tournament scoring that was believable, let alone creating the sense of a tournament atmosphere. Yes, they've added galleries, but they're all collected around the hole you're playing. The rest of the course is visible, yet devoid of even static gallery images. It would be nice to hear some crowd sounds coming from elsewhere on the course, but that's missing also.

It's not like this can't be done either. We have history of a game which featured galleries on other holes, crowd noise from elsewhere on the course, and PGA player models actually playing the course hole-by-hole, based on statistical models... PGA Championship Golf 2000. Why isn't this doable in 2008 on processing hardware that's more powerful than what we had back then??

Real simple, PGA 2000 was strictly a 2D rendered environment. Huge difference from trying to render the same environment in 3D on the order of magnitudes, especially trees and dynamic 3D objects.

Yeah, I thought about that and it probably explains some of it. But I'm looking at how we have galleries all the way down the fairway of the hole being played and they seem to become static at a certain distance. It seems to me like it would be just as easy to place galleries in a proportional density to the radius around the golfer's perspective. As the gallery members got further from the viewpoint, the degree of animation would be scaled back proportionally from full to none.

The way the gallery placement is done now just affirms the notion that I'm playing a hole surrounded by an OOB void rather than a course. I'm not a programmer so I'm sure I don't know all of the constraints of the game engine. I just wish they could find some way to reinforce the idea that I'm playing on a course and not a hole carved out of the aether.

I was really hoping that with new developers this series would change, as in a whole new look, sound and feel... but so far it pretty much looks, sounds and plays much like previous versions. They could cut back on some of the courses, cut back on some player models, cut back on some of those challenges and that coaching crap which i'm sure takes up a big chunk .... and add a awesome tour atmosphere with options as in being matched up with cpu players or not, and much better camera action.I would'nt mind a double disk package which I'd be glady to pay more for, or even, if they would ship out one disk in Aug and another with additional courses Dec/Jan for xmas or new year.

I'm with you on this front Casper! This game is sorely lacking in creating a tournament atmosphere in every sense of the word. I've been playing a lot of Links 2004 in Career mode lately, and while it won't let you play in a pairing with one of your competitors in tournament mode, it at least gives you a better sense of what they're doing elsewhere on the course. You can even hear distant crowd reactions to what they're doing, followed by a comment from the announcer with a text report of what happened. There are also players playing behind you, where they should be according to the standings!

I think I've said all I can say about the cameras. I'm already sick of ball-cam for 2009 based strictly on the videos!

Re: Why does everyone like Tiger Wood's game so much???

Yet another example of exclusivity completely killing innovation...

While I'll admit I'm an unabashed EA-*****, they have absolutely no leg to stand on when it comes to their golf offerings. Simply put, they are horrible. I honestly think the last good golf game that EA sports put out was PGA Tour 96 (or whenever the last one was before it became Tiger Woods). Ever since then, it's 100% downhill....

Where is the sim golf, for us sim-golf lovers? Why does every other sport get a sim option (with the exception of football...heh - dig, dig) title except golf? I hate the Tiger Woods series so much, I can't even begin to explain. It's ridiculous that the best golf game is still a 5 year old original XBox title, which is inexplicably light-years beyond Tiger Woods in terms of a sim golf experience.

Ultimately, none of that matters because Tiger Woods sells really well every year (which, as has been discussed ad nauseum, is the ONLY thing that matters to any company, but especialy EA)...But TW it is about as good of a representation of golf as NBA Jam is of basketball...actually, NBA Jam might be a closer representation of its sport than Tiger Woods is of golf.

As an aside, if there was one sport where not having the official license would matter, you'd think it would be golf. I mean, who gives a crap if I can't be Stewart Cink - everyone makes their own character anyway. I guess it helps a little with the tour immersion factor, but frankly, if my own name is on the leaderboard with any pros, that right there takes me out of the suspended disbelief (especially if you've ever seen me play). Links had basically no real players (before the XBox version, which even that is way too arcade-y for me), and it was always the gold standard for golf games. You have to negotiate with the real courses to get them in the games, but other than that, nothing else officially licensed even matters.

Ah for the days of Jack Nicklaus Unlimited, where people with insane amounts of skill, patience, and free-time would make painstaking DIY recreations of fantastic courses from around the world on the amazingly powerful course editor and post them for free on the Internet for all to play...

Someone NOT named EA: make a damn realistic golf game! Please! For the love of Pete!
