Re: Why does everyone like Tiger Wood's game so much???
Yep... sad but true. Heck, I still think NCAA Football 2004 on the PS2 if the best football game. I haven't touched NCAA Football 2009 (don't play football games until September), but from what I'm hearing, it's probably not going to be fully playable until after the second patch.Duke Football? Honestly, the game that's been in heaviest rotation among my friends of late is, amazingly, Goldeneye on the ol' N64. Oldie but goody. Just like "Leaderboard Golf" and "Jack Nicklaus Unlimited".Comment

I'm with you on this front Casper! This game is sorely lacking in creating a tournament atmosphere in every sense of the word. I've been playing a lot of Links 2004 in Career mode lately, and while it won't let you play in a pairing with one of your competitors in tournament mode, it at least gives you a better sense of what they're doing elsewhere on the course. You can even hear distant crowd reactions to what they're doing, followed by a comment from the announcer with a text report of what happened. There are also players playing behind you, where they should be according to the standings!
I think I've said all I can say about the cameras. I'm already sick of ball-cam for 2009 based strictly on the videos!Comment

Re: Why does everyone like Tiger Wood's game so much???
If you're waiting for EA to put out the next good golf game you'd better pack a lunch...it ain't happening in this lifetime.
Once the engine for a game is made, EA never EVER changes it for the lifecycle of a console. They have been successful, from a financial standpoint, with the current engine Tiger Woods employs, hence there will be no appreciable change in the game until XBox720 or PS4 or whatever they call their next systems come out.
Some other developer, that I was hoping was going to be 2K (why are they wasting their time making sub-par Don King-licensed boxing games, when they own the Links property?), is going to have to step into the void and blow us away with some incredible, lifelike, simulation golf game. I mean, they made an f'n ping-pong game, and they won't devote resources to golf? Now that there's no College Hoops anymore (RIP...what a great franchise that was), they theoretically should be able to devote a team to some new IP (or reviving an old, dead one). I can only imagine; NBA 2K-like graphics, but with hi-def, BRIGHT (I always found Tiger's palate too artificially green and dark...) colors w/ good variations in the turf textures, that plays a no-apologies SIM game of golf. Camera angles - including fixed, behind the golfer, cut to reverse on landing, TV-style overhead blimp, NO ball-cam....
Eh, what's the use? I don't know why I should expect that in 2008 I should have the same depth, breadth, and variety of choices in my sports videogames that I did in 1996....Comment

Tiger Woods is a great series of games. I love the series, but I may not get this years game because I am addicted to We Love Golf for the Wii right now.MLB: Oakland fan since 1999
NFL: Redskins fan since 1998
NHL: Calgary fan since 2002
NCAAF: Penn State fan since 2000

That's huffing, puffing hyperbole at its finest, sorry. The PC version of the game is terrific. And while the console version tends to cater to the "300+ yard drive, hit every fairway" crowd, the fact is it's a decent game in its own right.Comment

As for the huffing and puffing...okay, I've gotten a little out of shape recently - what, you have to pile on now too?Comment

It's not hyperbole (hyperbole would be "this is the worst game in the history of video games!!!"....), it's statement of opinion. I welcome opposing viewpoints.

As for out of shape... I weighed 230 in May. Just stepped on the scales this morning: 179. I can let you in on my secret, but I warn you, it's extremeComment

Nothing wrong with you liking EA's game as it is now (and forever will be unfortunately) but TC was making, IMO and obviously a LOT of other folks here, a very valid point that EA's golf game just isn't anywhere near a true golf sim.
I have not played it and I don't really plan on it but I am pretty sre from what I have read that it is a fun game but fun has a different definition to gamers and to me, EA's golf game hasn't been fun...ever.
Links on the original Xbox is still the king of console golf IMO.

Re: Why does everyone like Tiger Wood's game so much???
Well, good for you but the rest of us sim golf fans would like a game that is a lot more realistic. That, to us sim fans, would make the game a "blast" to play. You see, that is our taste. To have a game mimic the real sport. Not some half baked arcade game with goofy "mini games" aimed at the average gamer.

Links sucks.
Also, if you haven't played 09, you really have no basis for your rude comments.

It's really a blow to my self-esteem to hear this... to think that I'm still being entertained by a game that "sucks". Your name sake would be proud of the logic upon which you based this conclusion though...Duke Football? Hell yes it's Duke Football! --- Coach CutcliffeComment
