Ah, just so stir the crap some more...

I think they are in their right to charge $$ for a course. Just as you are in your right to purchase it or not. I don't buy the "it should be free!" argument.

As a previous poster said, you used to pay $20 for a new course and a new golfer skin........ but nowadays everyone is so used to pirating and getting stuff for free that no one wants to pay anything anymore.

So, my advice? If you want it, get it. If you don't, don't! I see expansion packs, etc. for RPGs and RTS games all the time in EB, and they charge $30 for them! (Canadian anyway.......)

    <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

I think the argument here is the difference between paying for an expansion pack, which most will probably purchase, and ONE course. I almost see it as to an euivalent of M$ charging for each new car in PGR2, or each new bot in mechassault.

I will throw this out to be part of the discussion. How do we know that these courses were not already on the block sitting waiting for timely intervals to be released, meaning that the courses were already done, but whomever decided that they can make a few more bucks if they released half the courses when the game shipped, and sell the other half

I know , I know. I am making a big deal out of nothing. It just worries me in the direction this is going. Give me an expansion pack with 5 courses and new skins and new clubs for 20 bucks and i will purchase it. 5 bucks for 1 course is overkilll IMO.

You are probably right. These extra courses probably ARE done already. To play devil's advocate, you can't blame M$ for trying to make extra moolah though..... If people are that ticked about paying $5 per course, then no one should buy it, and MS will learn the lesson.

But people probably will get it. I'm undecided right now, but I understand how golf games are a different beast than other games. Paying the course to reproduce it is probably pretty costly..... and it is probably a lot of work to recreate an 18 hole course of that calibre.

To me, it's the same as scenery packs for Flight Sim..... if you are interested in the region (or this case the course) then you will be willing to pay.

I think this is the way things are going...... by this time next year no one will be complaining because we'll all be used to it. It's like gas prices.... they've crept up slowly over the past years, so now we all think they are normal now, when 2 years ago they seemed high.

Who knows, maybe they have extra stuff in the download that we don't know about? More pro's or clubs???? I haven't heard anything....

the Links guy on the XSN forums said people had been working until a week or so before Christmas to get the course done, so I doubt it was done ahead of time. I tend to believe him, just passing on what I saw

I agree. If they had it done before and planned on charging 5 bucks, they wouldn't have waited til January to release it. They would have dropped it on Live in early December, then put a second one on Live this month.

who cares whether the courses were done or not or any other argument made. are you happy with what you got for $50? i know i am. did you only buy the game knowing that you'd get more than the 7 courses included on the disc? i know i didn't.

they don't expected you to spend $5 on a new course b/c you don't have to spend another dime if you choose not to. the game is worth the $50 as is. they're offering a new course that you can choose to get or choose not to get. that's up to you.

Actually i remember them saying there would be downloadable content in the form of new courses and clubs, golf balls, etc.

I will plead ignorance and going by how the DLC works with others games through xboxlive, i wasnt expecting to have to pay 5 bucks a course. Again, not a big deal, but i beleive alot of people are in the same boat. And that is what irks me. That i never saw any article that Darryl mentions " oh yess, you will have to pay for some of the content we are providing". Please point me to an article before links was released that mentions this, for i must have missed it.

As for the courses being done or not before the game being released, it was just a jab at the system. I know these guys work hard, as most developers do and go unappreciated. However, whether 1 or 100,000 people pay the money for the course, those guys still got paid for their efforts. Will companies now start cutting back on options and features of future games hoping that you purchase a 50 dollar game, then they can rolling out 'updates' and charge you just a bit more?

I dont know, i am rambling now. There is really no way to argue the value of a Links 2004 golf course other than those that want it vs those that dont. But i still dont like the precedent that this is setting. I would much rather have an expansion pack of another 5 or 6 or 7 courses for 20 bucks along with new clubs, golf balls, skins, etc..
