Re: Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR Trial Available Now on EA Access, Post Your Impressions
I was told during TW Community Day for TW14 that if the game did not sell well that all the work they put in for Simulation mode would be one and done and it would not make a return. I do not "get" that kind of thinking as Simulation mode is surely NOT the reason that TW14 sales were dismal......DLC courses (many the same as previous versions), buggy game that wasn't patched properly and left DoA, etc is what caused TW14 to flop commercially. To me, that is not how you develop larger audiences for your product. I feel that with enough feedback from this and the EA Golf forums, we might be able to get them to increase TOUR difficult and/or bring back a new and improved Shot Stick like Tiger 14 had but not have it disappear after 2 seconds......PC / Xbox One X

Re: Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR Trial Available Now on EA Access, Post Your Impressions
Just went and paid off my pre-order. Watched alot of streams yesterday, including Millennium's last night, and there was nothing that made me change my mind about getting it.
Were there aspects that were varying degrees of disappointing? Absolutely. The largest one is the lack of difficulty. 13 and especially 14 gave us the tools to make the game tough and realistic. I still play 13 to this day and it's still very rewarding to shoot a bunch under par. The part that bugs me about this game (granted, without having played it) is you have Arcade, Classic and Tour gameplay styles. Why on earth are they not making stock Tour a grind to shoot well? The main difference I see is the swings are the same but on Arcade you have more tools and info available to shoot crazy low scores.
You're giving the casual fan what he's looking for which is a legitimate birdie opportunity on every hole. So why not, on Tour difficulty, would you not give me all the tools to make the game as tough as I'd like? Why this series just doesn't want to give us a swing sensitivity slider is beyond me. Problem solved! I can make it as hard to hit a straight shot as I want!
Instead, they trick up the difficulty with this tempo nonsense, which is totally unrealistic for PGA Tour caliber players. Watching guys use Rory and miss greens short by 20 or 30 yards is embarrassing. It's not real life PGA golf.
Let me make the game difficult. As it stands, I'm going to enjoy the heck out of it but like every other TW game prior to 13 and 14, shooting 60 becomes the new 70 because it's so simple to do so.

I get what you're saying and the context you're saying it in, but I won't go anywhere near that far in criticizing the devs. They've proven they can make a great, tough and realistic golf game with 11, 13 and 14. I just want them to make the mode they claim they made for us sim players, actually for us.
Make it tough, make it a mental challenge.... Golf is tough, don't shy away from challenging your audience.

Hey guys, kind of a lurker here but been a member for quite some time. Just wanted to give my two sense and ask a really stupid question. First off I have been playing this for a long time and I would consider myself good enough to do really well on tour mode but not very good at Sim mode. I am really missing the fact that it is not in here though. I love the way it looks and is presented, and from tee to fairway I think it plays great. I am just not feeling putting and its kind of ruining the experience. That and this game just feels super super stripped down. What did all this development time go into, perfect blades of grass? Little things like puma gear, watches, sunglasses, gameface, all the stuff that makes It personal is really limited and that's kind of a bummer. I feel like this is stuff they will try to trickle out in silly packs like puma golf gear pack etc...I also think that the game will get better as its updated with whatever they have planned, that being said I think my preorder just got canceled. I am just not feeling this game at all and I was really looking forward to it. This may be a best buy GCU purchase in the 20-30 range but not full price right now until I see what gets done to it. On a really stupid note, is there no ability to zoom down and see where your ball might land or rotate around the hole with the camera and that kind of stuff or am I completely missing it? Hope you guys have fun if your enjoying it and thanks for reading!Comment

I think it's sad to say this but after playing the trial. I believe this game and it's fun factor were built around Night Club. That mode I've thoroughly enjoyed more than the sim aspect and modes of the game.Comment

This went from preorderd to down the drain quick, going to be way too easy at the hardest difficulty , maybe they will patch in the diagonal swing and ball cursor in bad lies like tw14, hitting every fairway snooze, the only misses from tempo snooze, super deflated"Another brick in the house"- Lloyd Carr after Michigan's victory over the Washington Huskies in the 2002-2003 season.Comment

I can look at Career stats (I'm guessing for career mode play only) after I complete a PGA Tournament, which I'm working on now, but haven't completed yet. There are other stat fields in other places that are still blank for live play. I may not have looked everywhere for stats yet, but there's nothing I've seen that breaks down your previous round(s) stats so far.Duke Football? Re: Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR Trial Available Now on EA Access, Post Your Impressions
Agree with everything except what is in bold. I like the Tempo addition and do not feel it is "tricked up". I have not had two swings the same yet. Playing with my character, I miss fairways and greens on occasion, but where I am really challenged is on approach shots. Have not stuck any inside 20' yet and that is due to the Tempo IMO. Could the game be more challenging? Yes. Hope Justin and Team are listening because there is some very good feedback here....
IMO, tempo is one of the LAST things tour pros and better golfers worry about. And like Onlooker mentioned earlier in this thread, proper tempo in this game is very misrepresented. The transition from backswing to downswing is way too quick and it leads to the unrealistic looking animations with the swings.
Tbh, when I golf IRL, the only time my game goes way off the rails is when my tempo is way wayyyyy too quick. And in this series, that kind of tempo is encouraged.
All I'm saying is make tempo the least important part of the swing stick, not the most important. You could argue that tempo is way more important than swinging straight in the swing stick's current current form because of how forgiving mis-hitting left and right is. When you watch a PGA broadcast on TV and they'll analyze a guy's swing when he misses, they'll say he was quick or blocked out or any number of terms...but those shots result in a miss left or right, not many yards short. That's all I want, emphasize the important parts of a golf swing, not the one thing you hardly ever hear them talk about with a Tour pro's swing.

Re: Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR Trial Available Now on EA Access, Post Your Impressions
Forgive my ignorance because I haven't played an EA golf game since TW12 and I have a few questions after playing the demo. First I should note that I pretty much hated 12 after being a long time fan of the series. I thought the caddy was the most pathetic hand holding feature I'd ever seen in any game and completely ruined what made TW so much fun.
First, what's with the green tempo ball, is that new? It doesn't seem to be removable since tempo is so important but I feel like I'm watching a green ball instead of my golfer swing.
This leads to my next question: do you always just swing away and let wherever you aimed the arrow control the distance? If I remember correctly back in the ps2/xbox days if you had a shot that was between clubs you either club down and powerboost or take something off the longer club. While playing on Tour difficulty the former wouldn't be an option but I feel the old way was much more fun and challenging. Trying to figure out what 80% of a full swing was and then trying to execute to me was classic TW golf. Now it's just aim the pointer, adjust for the wind (unless playing on arcade which shows you exactly how the wind will shape the ball which is pathetic even for "arcade" mode) and take a full swing = success. If you have to take off some tempo that would be one thing but when I played yesterday I just did the same standard swing every time and it pretty much always went right at where I was aiming.
If anyone knows what i'm talking about and could clear it up for me some or let me know that I'm completely wrong I'd appreciate it.Comment

From watching videos. Graphics look meh. Rory looks absolutely terrible. Sound design is horrendous. Wedges sound like you are hitting a wooden club. Crowd reacts awkwardly etc.
The presentation is laughable and my god, the celebrations O.o I just can't get immersed in a game that can't even do the little things right. Golf is all about the little things. I understand guys want to play fast and all that great stuff, but where is the scenes of reading putts, talking to the caddy, pre shot routines. Scenes of you walking down the fairway with your playing partner while commentary is going etc etc.
Its literally, hit ball. Teleport to next shot. Hit ball. Teleport to green. Putt. For a sport/game that only focuses so much on one player, you can't leave the presentation that empty. It just feels lazy. To say this is supposed to replicate TV presentation is laughable at best.
On top of that, the game looks way too damn easy. Awkward paths on swings still lead to shots just off center and not to mention the ball physics are still awful.
I was well on the fence about giving this game a look, but having these videos showed me that I don't need to waste my money.Cubs | Bulls | Dolphins | 'Noles

Re: Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR Trial Available Now on EA Access, Post Your Impressions
Imagine if a slight miss left or right would result in a corresponding miss on your shot...it would make alot of greenside hazards and pinched off fairways actually come in to play. I've seen some real bad misses that result in a 5 yard miss at the end of a shot...thats just not punishing enough. I want those super slight misses on the swing stick to result in a 3-5 yard miss on your shot, and everything else kind of domino out from there.
Spot on.
In the golf club game, there is an option to have drive difficulty on normal, hard or hardest.
When it's on hard or hardest, for me anyway, it's as you describe above. Deviate slightly from straight and your in trouble.
It makes it really tense, and I find that -2 can become +2 in the blink of an eye.
It's just baffling that they would put an apparent mode for sim golfers in, yet have it play pretty much as easily as their arcade mode.
Just keep arcade and sim seperate, and build both as best you can for each group of fans. Why do they find that so hard?Comment
