Re: The Golf Club 2 - Impressions Thread

My impressions, and let me start by saying I have been playing golf games for over 25 years. I am not bad at them and understand the mechanics just fine. first off the putting is still terrible. There is zero feel to it. secondly slow and medium greens feel like you're putting on shag carpet while fast greens like you're putting on ice. Regardless of where you move the distance pointer.

The swing mechanic is much tougher which is great, BUT there is something off with Player and tour clubs. I will make perfect swings making sure i have perfect tempo and pull back and push forward straight and the feed back will show that it went way right or left when that didn't happen at all. I know when I make a bad swing i should get punished, but i know for a fact on a lot of these swings it's not that way off. I do like that we control distance with the ball placement tool, but i have 0 clue how far i should expect the ball to go in the air after adjusting it. I would like them to adjust the carry

Chipping and Pitching are better, especially the more tweaked with the loft/ball placement tool. It takes time but once you get the hang of it you can make some great shots.

As someone who was very excited for this game, i am a bit disappointed. The swing mechanic seems a tad broken. I like that it's tougher but there are times it bugs out and says my swing is far to the left or right when i know for a fact it wasn't. Putting is still absolutely abysmal. There is hope for the game if they can tweak it just a little.

You're the one that seems to be making a big deal out of it. He stated in his first post he would be returning it. It's a completely fair and valid point that it seems ridiculous you can't have a Career mode apart from being connected to the internet. If the TGC Official courses are available apart from an internet connection, then it seems you should be able to set up a career offline using only those courses. He expressed his disappointment, nothing wrong with that.

And as he pointed out, pretty much any sports game has an offline Career/Dynasty/Franchise mode.

Just chiming in you can use official TGC courses and not play online. I played offline all last night while servers were down.

Server issues are still there but don't seem as bad today. Love the game when it's not kicking me out. Absolute blast playing with friends.

Which defeats the purpose of calling it offline.

Yeah, I played two courses and enjoyed it, but it isn't worth $40 to just randomly play those with no end reward for doing so.

I see the servers are still causing problems this evening.. damn!

Hopefully the course designer will function fine. Speaking of which, does anybody know how I can raise/lower the terrain of the entire space I'm working within? Basically, what I want to do is raise the whole thing since it always seems so low, then I want to take all but two edges down 30 or so feet. Essentially, I want an L shape along two edges raised, and then my course is going to essentially be below in the valley. Seems like there's no easy way to just raise or lower the entire thing without guessing and hoping there's a shape that fits... Maybe I'm missing something here?

You can't get into the offline career without an internet connection.

I tried to check it out when the servers were down last night. It won't even let you get into it.

Hmm, so I am wrong on that end. Not sure why that is. The courses are there so no excuse for that. Apologies for the misunderstanding.

Yea, I definitely get his frustration but I have no doubt there is a reason for it.

The real bummer to me about the always-connected career mode is that this game has a definite "end date". Meaning in 5, 10 years, all that will be left to play is offline HB courses. I'm sure I'll get well over $40 in entertainment before the game stops working, but still. I don't really like paying for something that's assured not to last.

The swing mechanic isn't broken. It's different than TGC and any other swing mechanic ever released.

It takes an Ernie Els/Freddie Couples mindset while swinging. It is rhythmic and you do not want to accelerate through impact which is the only downside IMO.

Keep practicing because it plays a great game of golf with realistic outcomes once you have practiced it for a while. You will not master this swing anytime soon, if ever. I have over 100 rounds in and I am still learning new things every round.

How many sports games are you still playing that you bought in 2007?

If there is one, can you say you got your money's worth?

Chances are you won't even be able to play this game 10 years from now unless it is the PC version and even that is not a given.

I hear what you are saying, but to let one thing ruin your impressions of a solid Golf game is disappointing. Good luck with your choice.
