Think I'll stick with PGA Tour III this year again. The live tournament updates were great and they have 11 playable characters.

The graphics other than the player models and crowds aren't so bad in this game. Focusing on just the player models gives the impression the entire graphical package is ps2/ps3 era. I understand the need to do it but for their sake I hope they stop soon.

If I were Bryson DeChambeau, I'd be so pissed off that I spent all that time working out and putting on all that muscle, only to have my character model have the arms of a pro cyclist.

Also, as others have mentioned, if they were going to just use generic swings for all the pros, they couldn't have made worse picks than DeChambeau, Finau, and Kuchar. They have very recognizable swings (the stiff/no wrist break/rigid swing of DeChambeau, the short/sawed-off power swing of Finau, or the flat single-plane swing of Kuch) that will be so noticeable if their names and (sort-of) likenesses are just sumperimposed on a regular generic golf swing. I mean, most people won't necessarily pick up on Kevin Kisner or Cameron Champ's swings not being true-to-life, but those guys...I mean, it'd be like if Michael Vick threw with a generic right-handed QB animation in Madden or NFL2K (still the greatest sports game ever, by the way....).

I get that demographic they're going after probably doesn't care, but it sort of irks me that golf fans are being treated with a lot less respect than football or basketball fans.

Weird that they can't just combine the two and give everybody what they want...

You'll have to buy the next one for that. Or maybe the one after that. You want pot bunkers? Maybe the one after that. Without the user created courses this game is flat and has been stagnant since TGC2.

It's a real shame they won't build a parallel "pro course mode" to go alongside the default "server based course DNA" system that prohibits ever having truly course unique assets.

The real strength of Perfect Golf courses is the literally unlimited flexibility of assets to make each course as faithful to the real life counterpart as the designers imagination and techniques allow.

Some way to have "both" in the TGC world would be pretty cool...even if it entailed a higher paid tier for hosting of those assets and higher local storage requirements, etc.

If the new MS Flight Sim can literally "stream the world" in real time, I'm pretty sure a golf game could too -- just a resources issues mainly.

In my Perfect Golf install, I currently have 67 courses installed with a folder size around 15 GB.
It really isn't that gigantic actually.

No, that's not all that big. My Forza 7 installation with DLCs on my XBox One X is over 32 GB.

The more I think about it, who knows how much the pandemic has affected the development. Maybe they have generic wings, because they couldn’t get them in mo cap sessions. With 2k hopefully there is a lot of post launch support and they are patched in. That was severely lacking in the last three games. Has it been 100% confirmed they have generic swings, or are we just going by the trailer.

If they had planned to do mo-cap sessions, I would have thought they would have tried to do them earlier than March. I would think more like November or December of last year, when the PGA TOUR season is over, would have been better suited. But yeah, if they had planned to do them after March, the pandemic would have put a stop to that.

I do recall Justin Thomas saying to "The Miz" during his video with him that he'd had his face scanned, but that was it. If the cover athlete wasn't mo-capped, I doubt any of the other featured pros would be.

It’s just doesn’t make sense to me. Is it the limitations of the unity engine? Only can handle one swing type? To me, it’s coming off as a little lazy. Not a good look.

I wonder how much it would have cost to mo cap the pro swings. Seems to me 2k is going to cater to a crowd who doesn't give a rip about stuff like that. Hoping for the best but expecting nothing much here.

The game is decent enough but it isn't improving much at all. I'll wait for a deep sale.

We don't even need mo-cap, let us tweak the swing like in the old tiger woods games. It's not a new feature.

The two golfers announced today were Jim Furyk (another guy who needs to have a unique mo-capped swing, but probably won't) and Billy Horschel.

I think it's more the difficulty in getting all of these golfers to a place where their swings can be mo-capped, with the same degree of resolution. I'm trying to imagine them all being able to go into their nearest mo-cap capable studio, and getting consistent results from them all. From all that I've read, motion capture is an expensive and variable proposition.
