I was worried about the way the release, particularly the summer lead up, went. I've long maintained that when there is lots to be proud of and excited about as a developer/publisher, you get that stuff out there and spread the word.

The whole summer felt like a drip drip drip of a couple exciting teasers to get as much pre-order money out of wallets as possible -- while leaving a lot of unknowns to be discovered later.

All that said - things could be made right with some surprisingly tremendous post launch support and patching -- which isn't looking so good at the moment.

Even post release, I was really enjoying the game. I figured they would patch career mode leaderboard issues and other things, and the game would be even better. But then they released a server side update unannounced, and the game became much easier than it was before. Then came the Halloween update with the pumpkin head, stupid putters, and huge hats no one wants in a patch that still doesn't have official notes posted.

Their pre release marketing was frustrating...their post release support has been maddening.

I would be SO excited about a next-gen EA golf game!

I'd even be excited about a next-gen 2k golf game if they dumped HB. I'm sorry, but HB has run its course with the golf thing. They seem unable to push it over the top and the amount of progress over a 4 version run of TGC is just not very impressive.

EA just needs to pull out and polish up the Rory source code. It needed some gameplay and swing work still, but the graphics engine I'm positive could be dialed up for next-gen.
I've just gotten really spoiled by all the excellent user created courses. Not sure how easy it would be to settle for 25-30 courses at this point.

This will be the one thing TGC/2K has on any EA golf game, unless of course the EA game comes with a course creator, too.

For me, it's a give-and-take thing...sure, TGC/2K has lots of amazing user created courses. But right now, you can only use them in local matches and societies. And there are an innumerable number of courses out there that flat out stink and are horrible auto generated ones that someone slaps a ridiculous name on.

A game that has a set 25-30 courses (like the EA golf games of old) also limits things, but it's essentially the same as the career mode in 2K21. There's only 30-ish courses you're allowed to play in that mode since there is no customization of the schedule. And a lot of them are fictional courses created by users in previous TGC games.

So if I have to play a set 25-30 courses anyway in career mode, wouldn't I want them to be some of the best real-life ones in the world, like Augusta, St. Andrews, Oakmont, etc.? I can play those courses in my career mode in TW14...I cannot in 2K21. Not to mention the licensing of the actual majors as well.

Echoing MrAB above. For a licensed, fully blown out, and complete career mode and PGA simulation (ala TW14) I'll gladly trade out zillions of courses for a great list of exceptionally well done first party licensed courses.

EA was really onto something with Rory and the courses that were individually tailored to the unique conditions and challenges present at those real world venues. (Oakmont comes to mind).

That's the sort of stuff that, other than Rory, has never been done on a golf game and it would truly make individual courses stand out.

I'm all for it. This whole genre could really use some next generation thinking and implementation (beyond just making better looking graphics).
