The fact is, social media is why we can't have competing sports games anymore. Because the way social media divides us, when competing sports games come out, the game on the losing side no longer has disappointing sales. They have abysmal sales. It's no longer worth the risk to go head to head, because the cost to produce a game is way too high for that risk.

No one that plays 2K wants to hear from me why I prefer EA golf. No one playing EA golf wants to hear why someone prefers 2K golf. Everyone is perfectly capable of figuring out what game they like the most. While there is a time, shortly after release that can offer decent impressions of competing games, it's still smothered in fanboys arguments that never stop, only to drown out the voices of gamers that just want to enjoy the game they have.

Because no matter how good or bad the games are, there are a bunch of dudes that will play both games and then spend the next year debating which is the better game in both threads.

You really think that would be better than the heyday of TW Country Clubs?
Honestly I don't know what to make of all that.

It seems like you're worried about a lot of stuff that is only tangentially related to golf games and/or this discussion and is mostly uncontrollable. (social media - divisions, etc)

I pretty skeptical that having the games launch 6 months apart (or whatever amount of time) is going to lessen the divisions between the users or decrease the amount of debate over preferences, etc. (Hell, some still do this between Links, TW08, PG, TGC, others, etc -- and none are even close to new anymore)

I think 2k and EA are probably going to be tackling this space with slightly different approaches and each will appeal to a different set of folks. As a result, it's unclear to me if going head to head would really impact either.

Honestly - I really don't care if they release at the same time or not.
I just want them to release at all! lol

      btw: related to above

This is why I've advocated for 2k to lean into what their game has always mostly been about (course creator) and be more of the "Super Mega Baseball" for Golf.

It's going to a real challenge for them to compete with EA on the "legit PGA experience" due to the licensing money and some of the exclusives EA has secured.

Their best bet there is to not lock down or filter out the 3rd party recreations of real courses any more than they already do.

I also really wish they'd heavily lean into tools and customization options to let the user generated content fill in the gaps and create a "PGA Tour" for users (albeit an ad-hoc and unlicensed one).

I'm just saying I have no desire to eat popcorn and watch 2K and EA go head-to-head in golf and then try to read this forum. None.

There is nothing about those games releasing head-to-head that sounds attractive. I'm mostly disappointed because it's been since the last TW game that it seemed like developers had a clue about what most gamers want in a golf game.

I've disliked TGC and 2K, and EA completely **** the bed with Rory. So many folks were worried about which was better, when neither played a good enough game of golf to keep me interested long term.

And now we are supposed to find their competition "exciting?" Pass.

It feels undeniable to me that having two players in the space is better than one.

Just a single company doing a game in a given genre almost never gives the best product as a result.

I know in hockey, for instance, EA games were a lot better when they were going head to head with 2K.
I wish they were again. That series has just languished completely (in my view). They don't have to worry at all about what anyone else puts out to steal away customers -- there is nobody else!

Side note: I'm really exited to see what Tape 2 Tape is shaping up to be!

I feel it very exciting to have 2 PGA games on the shelf, not sure why anyone wouldn’t.

As I said, it was the context of the statement.

"I'd love to see a head to head release battle personally"

More games is obviously better, but that doesn't mean I'd love to see a head to head release battle, which would do nothing but amp up entitled gamers. I mean, I guess OS would finally get more clicks out of their Golf forum, but it won't be pretty.

I'm not sure there is actually room for two AAA golf games. One of them will go the way of NFL2K, NHL2K, MLB2K, and NBA Live. It's the downside of a social media world, in my opinion. I mean, PES exists, but...

We will watch one of the publishers give up on golf. I don't believe this is a new era. I think EA believes they can win, and we will watch the end of golf for one of the publishers. That won't be fun, because it is depressingly predictable.

I think I figured out why my opinion is what it is on this

I don't like TGC, HB, 2k21 and that whole vision for a golf game and so I'm currently on the outside looking in on all this and hoping for a real competition, much more modern graphics and features and real courses, etc -- I'm basically just naturally much more in EA's corner on this particular title which is likely skewing my view.

It definitely seems that a lot of folks here love 2k21 as is mostly and just want some iterative change. Totally fair... just not my personal jam

If it's 2k who does that, it's their own fault.

From what we know right now (might change), they aren't willing (or able for some content) to do the amount of licensing to match up with EA.

That being the case, they need to pivot their offering back to leaning more on the course creator and user generated content and get out of the way of that.

If they go mostly "as is" with adding Tiger and try to beat EA at the PGA and licensed content game -- and they fail -- I'm sorry, but that will be totally their fault. That's an awful strategy here.

NHL and Madden same game for over a decade. Madden still doesn't come close to 2k 15 years later.

I have hope for EA's golf game but if you think this is going to be any more than a slightly better looking fleshed out Rory I think you will be disappointed. Don't expect ground breaking.

I somewhat disagree, not saying it’s going to be best game ever, but I don’t think EA would make a game if it was going to be a Rory disaster 2.0. They have already confirmed many more courses and that’s telling. Not trying to get hopes up but I think it will be decent and way better than Rory,

Madden is dead, has been since madden 13 when it was rebranded as Madden Mobile card game on steroids.

That said .. I see no reason to be pessimistic about it.

Each of their game franchises are approached on their own.
I'll remain positive until there is reason not to be.

Could he be right ? Absolutely…… but as I’ve said , we already have plenty of courses revealed including the most important one. A new swing mechanic is confirmed (one of Rory 15 biggest downfalls in my opinion). LPGA return and several pros all but confirmed by EA.

Im not saying it will be elite, but it’s going to be better than Rory because I believe they took Rory and are building everything into it that it was missing.

                            Hope I’m right!

Sadly I think the predictions around here of it being a full year away are probably accurate.

That being the case I think they’re saving up any previews for a few weeks from now at The Masters.

With Augusta and the masters being such an integral part of this product it stands to reason that it’s only going to release at the masters or right around it… It’s sort of kills my hopes for a later this year release I think
