This is getting really strange now... here it is August 2nd, and not only do we not have any screen shots from the new game, there hasn't been a mention of it outside of Luke Elvy's unofficial slip of the tongue a couple of months back about it 'releasing in August.'!?

At this point, I’m not so sure 2k23 is even coming. If 2k was spooked out by EA they could easily move the dev team on board with WWE2k23 and NBA2K23/24 .
I’m just not confident it’s coming. Which is insane considering 3 months ago I figured it was a lock for this summer.
Hopefully we get news soon either way. We need both ea and 2K.

Plus we have a pullback from gamers overall:
...and all the still looming competition with whatever EA does (or doesn't) do. The PGA/LIV stuff of course applies to them as well, but maybe a little less if they just lean heavy into what the PGA still does have and all the content they've already talked about/secured.
The timing on all this ambiguity couldn't have been worse (for both Dev teams)
Even though I've been heavily advocating for an "all new engine" and "totally overhauled next-gen approach" from 2k this time around..
I won't be totally shocked if 2k23 ends up being mostly a refinement on 2k21 with a lot of new Tiger/PGA content... Sort of a content pack for 2k21 for the most part. It sounds like current players of 2k21 would mostly be very happy with that, especially if it did finally come with some fixes for long standing complaints/bugs.Last edited by scagwi; 08-02-2022, 12:26 PM.Comment

There's no way we're not getting a 2K23 golf game after they sold over 2.5M copies... and that's the only reason EA is back trying to make a golf game. I've got a feeling 2K/HB has something special in production. Certainly much better graphics for their new game.Comment

I REALLY hope you are right. I want a 2K game that actually has 2Ks fingerprints all over it.
I just do not see it happening, WWE2K23 is supposedly already confirmed and I’m worried they are more focused on that with EA getting the majors and so on.

Either way it now sure seems unlikely for an August release, since we're in August lol. Maybe they announce it during the FedEx playoffs? Or maybe it's pushed more for a fall/Christmas release? Can't imagine they would just decide to drop it altogether.
As others have said, many of us current players would be happy with bug fixes, a bit of graphics update with better crowds, maybe caddies, whatever they are going to do with Tiger in the game, and more official courses. Surely they can do that and sell another 1.5 million of them?Comment

Things have cooled and changed significantly since the black swan event of 2.5mm during the pandemic and with no competition.
Why this is delayed (at least we think it is?) is hard to know.
All I can think is that it's the PGA/LIV ambiguity.
I do also wonder if EA in particular is keeping totally dark on showing us anything until they see how big of a swing 2k is going for here.Last edited by scagwi; 08-02-2022, 01:55 PM.Comment

The landscape has changed so much since 2015, I don’t think Rory 15 is relevant in that aspect.

2k was very surprised by the black swan pandemic sales event for 2k21
It'll be fascinating to see how much they reinvested vs pocketed the surprise
If EA were on the sidelines still, I'd feel WAY more bullish on 2k investing and doing huge numbers again.
I think both games are going to do reasonably well, but I think they'll be largely splitting up marketshare pie ... not growing some larger pie.
Golf has limits in terms of larger mainstream market appeal here folks
A developer could make the best, most immersive, most fun, most beautiful PGA golf game ever -- across a wide range of platforms...
..and it's always still going to be a capped audience and somewhat niche because it's a "realistic golf game".
That just has limits.Comment

Re: Luke Elvy appears to confirm PGA2k23 coming in August in radio interview
To have a chance of doing that, they have to release well before EA and also have a significant upgrade across the board. A simple evolutionary update with Tiger content will move some units, but 2.5 (or even 1.5) in an atmosphere of competition and lacking some key licensing (The Masters is huge) ... will make it tough.

That was kind of my point, even if it's just an evolutionary upgrade, which it probably will be, why in the world wouldn't they release whatever it is well before EA? It's their only chance to even approach 1m copies in my estimation. It just makes no sense at all to me to wait until early 23 to release it.
Agreed, if I’m 2k, I am trying my best to get people to forget about EAs game and get them excited for my game that’s coming out soon! Show Tiger, polished graphics and everything I can.

It's also amazing to me in this day and age that devs and companies can keep an absolute air tight lid on leaks. There hasn't been word one from either company, no rumors, nothing. I don't see how that's possible these days.Comment

A delay here is really odd and I assume (hope) has a really good reason.
Getting closer and closer to EA's release window, or worse yet overlapping with it, is not in 2k's favor. It's not even about relative product offering or quality, it's just about getting to market first if you can, especially before the holidays and gift giving/buying season, etcComment

Think about EA College football, wayyy bigger than these games and no leaks or anything outside of information request from Matt Brown.
