Re: EA Sports PGA Tour Interview with Development Team - It's All About Gameplay
I was hoping for dynamic weather, where you have to adjust mid-round. NO weather is a big miss — integral to tournament golf over 72 holes. Let’s hope there’s at least variable wind speed and slight direction changes that create some uncertainty.
I hope they get the penalty drops correct. The year they first incorporated USGA in a TW game, I recall a big deal made about proper drops and stroke-and-distance. Also a key factor in strategic tournament golf. I’ll remain hopeful here. The other game gets it so wrong it has killed all immersion.Comment

3-click coming (and they're acknowledging it's important)? Yesssss.
I don't understand the negativity at all. We're getting another golf game. It's good times again.Comment

A lot of negativity now around the details released in Q&A.
The marker capped swing mechanic is a big issue though. I don’t think EA realises how quickly yardage can be manipulated when the player is given this much control. Half of me suspects the reason they haven’t given full control is due to the target FPS being on the lower end of the scale & not having the ability to hit shorter finesse shot types. Also regarding 30 fps I would ask EA if they can look at a 60fps mode for consoles that disables follow, broadcast & zoom cameras and only allows Pro camera settings that stay with the golfer therefore reducing movement to swing only.Last edited by RIFRIG; 02-10-2023, 05:12 AM.Comment

The putting also needs to stay true to Tim’s feedback in 2009. It’s a must it’s meterless & we have a single putting scale not something that’s dictated by the marker.
Golf game developers really need to go back to these community feedback days to get the game right at release.Comment

They only have to program drop zones for 30 courses of course they will get it right.Comment

Re: EA Sports PGA Tour Interview with Development Team - It's All About Gameplay
Hope to be wrong but I find it curious they couldn't find a way to get 3 click in the game at launch. They've been working on this for some time now. Promising it at some point? Hmm.Comment

20 shot types yet they could not make a different calibration for chip shots and felt the need to dumb it down.Comment

So an over swing would require a faster down swing to achieve a perfect strike. Problem lies in this system can be manipulated.Comment

@RIFRIG
Great points
What really bums me out is the whole "all new swing" thing seemed to get discarded.
I hate to be this negative, but I'm already worried we are heading for another Rory here -- but with more content at launch.
I just can't believe they are doing the same dial a distance routine --- again -- after this long wait and an 8 year layoff since Rory.
I sure hope it's at least harder. Rory was so boring and so easy
And was Rory running at 30fps ... on PS4 hardware?
We can't do better on all/only next-gen hardware?
Like -- wtf EA?Comment

Thank you for mentioning the putting also
So we still have the aim arrow to control distance on that also?
Essentially the swing was untouched and just tweaked up a bit in that case.
Exceptionally disappointing, especially on putting, where numerous games in the last few years have shown us how great that can be with full power control in the hands of the player/controller/mouseComment

We may still have full control with meterless putting. I can’t see EA going backwards to a tiered or marker defined system. They’ve added tempo though which may mean marker related putting the same as full swings..?Last edited by RIFRIG; 02-10-2023, 08:59 AM.Comment

Re: EA Sports PGA Tour Interview with Development Team - It's All About Gameplay
They’ve not dumbed it down but the marker is key to their swing mechanic as it’s position dictates over swing or under swing and from the position you change swing direction sets the requirements for speed of downswing.
So an over swing would require a faster down swing to achieve a perfect strike. Problem lies in this system can be manipulated.Comment
