I can confirm what you're saying to be true here in my game at 60 FPS. I find that I am getting considerably more perfect tempos in all types of swings. I find it equally beneficial in putts and full swings, but I still seem to struggle with blasts and flops. It's definitely an overall improvement though.

I can say after playing a couple of rounds is that I do feel the difference in frame rate. But now Im having to adjust to it, as I got use to the 30fps.
I guess since its golf and you play at my own pace vs H2H, the lack of 60 FPS didn't bother me. And Im playing on 120fps when applicable (55in LG C1 on a series x).
But I would say this current state of technology, there’s no real excuse not have 60fps (AT THE MINIMUM) as an option from the beginning. Thats blasphemy
I still say there's a bit of animation speed suppression in play here, and that's why the golfer still feels throttled to me.
Considering your powerful hardware, let me ask you this: do find that when you're trying to take like a 1/2 swing, and you're making a more deliberate backswing, do you find that the animation gets choppy and/or freezes? I'm finding that to be the case even with 60 FPS enabled. It's like there's a minimum threshold for animation speed just as well as a falsely low ceiling for it.Last edited by OnlookerDelay; 06-29-2023, 07:53 AM.Duke Football? You've raised a good question. I haven't experimented with swing animations. I just selected the one that looked closest to my swing in real life and went with it. I'm going to try these other animation out to see how they are affected.Duke Football? Hell yes it's Duke Football! --- Coach CutcliffeComment

Re: EA Sports PGA Tour Adds Performance Mode 60 FPS in Latest Update - Patch Notes
It's strange how so many people are getting different results, both in playing the game and how minimal or awful the graphics hit is in performance. I'm definitely playing better in performance, more perfects, less left to right, and lower scores. I've done many side by side comparisons between the two modes, hole to hole, and really can't see a big difference in the look.
Even my wife agrees, and she has contacts haha (my eyes are fine and this is a 65 inch TV 8 feet away from us). She couldn't tell any difference at all in the graphics, but noticed the more detailed frames when the ball is in the air and the rollouts.
I'm sticking with performance mode.Comment

I'll be playing this game daily for a long time. I've played almost every day since it came out. This patch gave me a bit of enhancement I wasn't expecting or even asking for, and it fixed the scoreboard bug. Hopefully the one next month adds the other 2 features, which are really what I've been waiting for.Comment

I've only played 2k briefly once about a week after the EA game came out, just to compare the swing speeds. I've not gone back to 2k since. This is my golf game. Not perfect, but once they add turn play and choosing rounds, it's the best golf game ever. I wish it had course creator and thousands of courses, but that's not as important to me. There are enough courses here and more coming.

Nice!
I was specifically asking about JC, as he’s been on the fence a bit and waiting on this Performance update.
Glad to hear you’re loving it.
I’d personally quibble on “best golf game ever”, but that’s a different topic.

Re: EA Sports PGA Tour Adds Performance Mode 60 FPS in Latest Update - Patch Notes
I'm still scratching my head over why they didn't foresee the demand for 60 FPS right out of the gate? That's becoming more and more a staple in all types of gaming now. How could you not realize how important that would be to probably at least half your potential audience in a golf game that utilizes an analog swing interface that incorporates tempo into its swing mechanic!?.
The problem is, if it launched with 60fps, it would just be something else. Of all the games in all the genres, golf needs 60fps the least, in particular since the swing mechanic is not 1:1.
Who knows, maybe it would just be something like a follow cam for someone to obsess over? You just never know what extremely online gamers might get distracted by.Comment

No, it's still not really close. It took EA Sports PGA Tour out of my inactive bin back to maybe two or three plays a week. The swing just feels like it's still overregulated to me... almost like it's on rails for lack of a better characterization.Duke Football? Hell yes it's Duke Football! --- Coach CutcliffeComment

Re: EA Sports PGA Tour Adds Performance Mode 60 FPS in Latest Update - Patch Notes
I'm enjoying Performance Mode more on the PS5. My attention is more on the gameplay during the rounds rather than staring at the scenery, and even then I find the graphic detail differences modest at best. Having said that, there's no excuse for a modern game not to have smooth play at 4K 60fps across the board. Other titles have figured this out. I'm guessing the devs probably started with the old Rory code instead of building this properly from the ground up with the latest tools available.Last edited by DaveMN; 06-29-2023, 11:44 PM.Comment

Because the game clearly didn’t need it, as the benefits seem to be minimal and effects on fidelity inconsistent. The only need, as you imply here, was to placate a bunch of gamers looking for anything to complain about.

What do you mean by "you never know what extremely online golfers might get distracted by?" This game doesn't offer much in the way of online golf, so I don't play much online golf with it. It's multiplayer leaves so much to be desired that it's rare that you can find someone who wants to play it with you? It feels incomplete. I don't think that's what your talking about though as this whole statement came off to me as a bit of a non-sequitur?Last edited by OnlookerDelay; 06-29-2023, 11:18 PM.Duke Football? If they could speed that up, or even give us options to speed up the animation speed or slow it down, along with turn play and choosing rounds, I still contend it would be the best looking, best playing golf game ever made. That said, the entire game is the relationship between the controller and the golfer, so unless they add options or just speed it up, I can definitely see why people prefer 2k or other games, just based on that alone. It's the essence of playing a golf game, and it's the biggest thing EA doesn't have right yet.
Unlikely the swing speed will ever change obviously.Last edited by golfnut67; 06-30-2023, 03:44 PM.Comment

Ya, you're right...let me rephrase that by saying "my favorite golf game of all time" lol. The one thing that's going to continue to bother me is the slow swing. I often play while watching real golf and there are very few golfers that swing as slowly as the EA game does with every golfer. It's not so much the downswing, it's the slight delay before the club lifts off the ground, and especially how slow the backswing is.

Is it the best in every regard? No.
Where it excels is where it matters to me. The different shot types is something that changed golf games forever for me.
Also I have never played a golf game where courses truly played different. I've won 5 tournaments in my career but I can't make the cut at the masters. Last try I was +10 by the end of day 2. I have to play smart and think how I'm going to attack a hole. I've never played a golf game where risk reward was so pronounced.
Not to mention it's pretty lol
That's enough to make it the best golf game I've ever played.
Now if they could work out some optimization on PC this would be in my top 5 best sports games of all time.2016 NLL Champion Saskatchewan Rush
