Not very good at this point but I'm in with anyone who wants to race with Pits and collision on. Feel free to add me to your list if that is your way of racing cause I prefer realism for that fun factor.

        Hey, guys.

        I'm simply hooked!

I ran a few races last night at 10% race length, collision and flags on and it wasn't half bad. However, during a couple races I had a guy running second behind me and he kept spinning out on purpose as soon I started pulling away from him. Spin outs cause yellows so he managed to keep me close to him during the race. (He said it wasn't intentional but it sure seemed rather coincidental.) Regardless, we had some battles up front! The race was setup to force you to come in and gas up at least once and tires were optional (2xs wear). This really adds to the fun of the game!

For those curious here's how I'm set up...

I use the control pad because the wheel is just to darn expensive.

I run the default setups with hardcore controls... Two things to note when you do this. 1) You will have your hands full because all of the aids are off. 2) But you will be 2xs faster because you will 100% control the steering, brake and gas. The trick is to nail down those brake points and know when to gas it coming out of the turns.

I hope we can all get together in a room sometime soon to do some racing... I'm sure it'll be a blast!

Look for me in the lobbies... I sometimes host races.

Re: NASCAR online roll call, for those that enjoy...

I still can't see how reviewers are slagging this to the tune of a 5 or a 6 unless they haven't found anybody online to run with, or they find the wrong crowd. This afternoon was crazy fun, guys. I can foresee some epic battles between mniner and myself in the future. It seemed we were always within a couple carlengths of each other unless one of us screwed up the pit stop, which proved to be the case almost every time. I think it only took a couple side by side laps for me to really start having some fun. That and the fact that you're constantly being forced to choose between the hotlapping, tire-burning line and a cautious, tire-conserving line. I still get nervous letting somebody go by 10 or 15 carlengths and hoping I can catch them later, but I'll have to test that some more in the future. So much strategy to think of, and that's never been accomplished in any console NASCAR game for me in the past. I was constantly mentally juggling what I wanted to do, which line I wanted to take, whether it would be preferrable to carry more speed on exit than it would be pushing it in hard, etc. It has some brilliant online gameplay, but it's sad because the control issues or lack of features will turn so many people off that this is probably going to be lucky to sell half the copies that 07 did...yet it's twice the game under the hood.

Even if you guys don't think you're that fast, hop on and just try to keep the car in control. You'll get quicker as you do, and any of us will be more than willing to help you out. As long as your don't drive like an epileptic crack-whore who's 5 hours late on a fix, you'll be fine. Today was just mega fun.

I know that I usually don't overhaul a setup until I feel as if I'm squeezing every ounce of speed out of the defaults. The defaults push a bit, so I basically just use the "basic" option to add some grip and then adjust my line. I am not the fastest guy in the world, but I can hold my own without even looking for setups. Maybe loosen it a tad, give it more grip, and off I go.

                Right on, TCrouch!

You hit all the points right on the head. It was great to run side by side with you and knowing that I better preserve some tires or watch those pit stops in order to hang in there with you.

I guess the only other point that I can add is how well the sun transitions during the race and how the shadows impact the track (grip or less grip).

Maybe next time, I'll gamble with just to right fronts and add tape! Til' then...

                Good racin'!

Re: NASCAR online roll call, for those that enjoy...

I did notice that, especially at Texas, I think it was. The entire front stretch was shadowed so it was tougher to find that entry point...at least it WAS at Texas, where it's not quite so imperative to hit it dead-on because the banking is so steep that it's easy to correct a pooched entry. That was ridiculous fun, though. It seriously depends on who you have racing, as with any game. If we manage to get rooms like that together consistently, we're in for a hell of a lot of fun...

And how insane is it how hard you have to push the car to really get those laps out while leading the two-car tandem, yet when you just give up the position and let the guy behind you by, you can just coast along and conserve your "stuff". I mean, I hear about it all the time on TV broadcasts (how silly is that to say), but even the mighty NR2003 didn't simulate it quite this way. That and the high groove. Don't get me wrong...NASCAR 08 is not as sim as Papy's brilliant release. But it lets you get a bit more racy with a more forgiving handling model than NR2003 did. It models the high groove brilliantly, and the "ok I can give up the position and let him pull me for a while" aspect has never really been done this well before. I thought I was pushing the hell out of the car and I'd look back and you were right on my bumper, so I drifted up, let you have the lead and suddenly everything was just easier. Absolute insanity.

                    Yes, sir.

The race in Homestead was a perfect example of that. You let me jump out ahead and I noticed it so I backed off enough to see what you had. You were running running low and high and I could tell you were more comfortable high because I could see back end sliding when you went low. How cool is that!

The lag seems to improve if you have max players set to 8 and if the room is set to private. I usually jump on throughout the weekend and after 5pm (PST) during the weekdays.

Ok, as you can see some of jumped on this weekend and did some racin'.

We ran 10% races with wear set to 4x's, visual damage and black flags only. This seemed to have worked pretty well. If we can consistently get a good group of guys together, I suggest we change race length to 20%, damage "on" and turn on yellow flags.

Run, let me know if there is anything that you need or I can help with. If you do want to start a League, I suggest your idea of holding it down to 8 people for Lag reasons only...or possibly if enough interest. Two heats of 8 people and then a final heat of 8 people( top four from each heat ). I would not mind setting up a website to keep track of everything. Just a little page keeping records and showing highlights of each race with a little breakdown of how each race went.
