Understood, dude. And I'm glad we can have a civil, rational discussion about this.

But you've played right into my big question about iRacing: If all online racing is a replacement for real racing for you, then what is compelling you to shell out triple digits in dough for iRacing? I'm not seeing the lure. What is pulling you in? What makes this a singular experience over racing online with rFactor, GPL, GTR 2 or NR 2003?

hopefully next week i can give you a review.
Cool. You consider iRacing not to be a game. Do you feel the same way about rFactor? About ASR? About NR 2003? About GTR 2, GPL? If not, then what makes iRacing a simulator and the others games?

I'm just not seeing the big tipping point that pushes iRacing into the realm of pure simulation instead of a very good simulation game.

    Appreciate your input, as always.

yeah i would say right now, for what you are getting it isnt worth it.

What they do offer is everything i am looking for in a sim. And i know with what they have invested that it can only get better.

The price is crazy, but im still going to get it, hopefully me and Choas81 can give some thoughts on it later tonight.

It does, and it's David Kaemmer (sp?), the mastermind behind Grand Prix Legends as well. But the pricing is just too prohibitive. From looking at the website, it's $20/month just for the basic package, which is a couple cars and a few tracks. No info on how much extra (just that it's extra) for the other tracks and cars. Looks great, but at this price point I don't see how it's going to attract all but the hardest of hard core racing sim enthusiasts.

                Re: iRacing

yeah 20 per month if you just get 1 month.

13 a month if you buy a whole year.

                both get the same thing.

Tracks and Cars that are not included cost extra, but with the year plan you get 60 free dollars to buy any extra stuff.

with the month plan you get 2.50 each month for extra stuff

They also have discounts towards purchases of 3 and 6 or more items.

But yeah it is a ton of money. Hopefully i will be spending 156 bucks today. (year plan)

Sorry if this is a dumb question, know nothing about the game but I saw on the website that Sprint Cars are coming soon. Are they planning on having any dirt tracks? Or is it all pavement? Game looks very cool, unfortuantly I'm sure my pc won't run it and the price tag is a bit too steep.

                                Re: iRacing

Gotta say, I'm impressed. I still think it's going to be a highly niche title based on the pay-to-play and the astronomical cost of cars and tracks, but what's there is very, very good.

They do a great job with making rookies run fixed setup vehicles in the Legends and the Solstice, and it's great to have integrated voice chat with a built-in push-to-talk button on my wheel.

What it manages to capture is almost impossible to explain--most "sims" are very difficult when starting out. Very few games actually manage to make it feel like driving a car. You know, if you hop in a Pontiac Solstice and take off, you're not going to have a very difficult time keeping it under control. Most sims go out of their way to make something difficult, all in the name of "realism". I'm in the camp that a game doesn't have to be overly difficult to be realistic, depending on the car being modeled.

After running their two rookie cars and being able to easily control them just with instinct, I came away quite pleased. I didn't have as much time as I would have liked, but I ran a few practice sessions and met some good guys, and then a qual and time trial run. It seems the Legends are so evenly balanced with the forced fixed setup that passing is very difficult. My average lap seemed to be somewhere around 16.25 or so, and it was the same for most of the cars around me, so we just kind of followed each other around like a little bee swarm. However, the vision from within the cockpit of the car lets you see out the side windows (since the car is so narrow), giving you a form of peripheral vision. I haven't found any way to change the driving camera, so I think drivers are locked into cockpit cam...I love it, but I can see how some people won't, and that makes it even further "niche". It's great in my opinion, considering they want to put everybody on an even playing field, etc.

I was really impressed, but I have yet to actually fire up a race. I must have misunderstood, because I thought you could only actually race the one time that week, but were free to practice or time trial all that you wanted. I need to RTFM.
