I can never figure out setting up cars. I enjoy trying to figure them out (its half the racing), but at the end its always a waste of time to me, to time consuming and no production. I like the old nascar games with just the sliders!

Hmm might give this a go. $19 a month does not seem too bad.

Lately i have gotten Nascar Simracing and really like it. Ive always wanted some kind of pc racing sim but never had a cpu that could handle it. The fact is this is only raced against humans really draws me in.

When you first sign up all you get is the rookie cars and tracks? Then how do you upgrade? Is it by racing or can you also buy other cars/tracks?

You get a starter set basically, the 34 legends (rookie and advanced) and a Solstice. There's a few tracks (Lowe's is the big one) for the oval racing and I believe you get 2 road tracks?

As for getting new cars/tracks, you have to buy them. The catch is that you have to have a certain license and/or safety rating to be able to race that particular car. Cars are $15 and tracks range from $15 to $25.

        Are those per month too?

So you start of in the rookie and depending on how you do/how much you play you can upgrade(buy) different tracks and new cars. Do you need to buy a certain level of cars before you upgrade to new cars?

Sorry i cannot seem to find all info i would like on there site.

No its a one time thing, the only monthly payment you make is for the subscription.

You buy what you want to race with, the only factor that limits you is the license restrictions (Rookies, D, C, B, A/Pro license).

The license and safety rating comes directly from your racing and how clean you are in time trials, warm up, races.

If you want, I have a 3 month discount that you could use. For a 3 month subscription, it'll cost you $25. It ends on 6/15 so you don't have much time to decide.

What about game options. I suppose you can set the graphic to whatever works best? How is the force feedback? I assume there are no car assist options.

            And, should i try it?

Yes you can adjust graphics, controls, etc. There's no assist and there's no fast line that you see in something like NR2003.

Force feedback is the best I've felt, little dips and rough patches you feel.

Should you try it? I would suggest you should so you can form your own opinion of the simulator.

If i were you i would do the 3 month package for 25 bucks that is going until June 15th, its only 6 bucks more and you get 2 more months and all the same stuff.

Force Feedback is amazing in this sim, best i have ever felt. When you take the legend to South Boston you will feel it, that track is so bumpy.

For the road side you also get the Spec Racer Ford, which is a very fun car, it is hard to get the hang of it but once you do it is great.

I think i am ready to give this a go. I would be most interested in racing the nascar series of cars (if i make it that far). Are those easy to find setups for?

The two cars they start you of with you cannot change the car setups correct? So it would be a equal field.

With the Trucks, and Nationwide there are alot of fast guys that put out setups, plus your club might have people who put up setups to help out others in their club.

The Rookie legends you cant change anything on the setup, the Advanced Legend you can change a few things, but not alot, which will help you learn what each thing does.

The Solstice is also one you can not change, and the SRF has very little you can change, so that you can learn the basic stuff on setting up a car.

                      Re: iRacing

After spending a lot of time with this since last week, my mind is blown.

I have a confession to make. I've always been a fairly big fish in a fairly little pond when racing amongst buddies from various sites. I'm expected to win, and I win frequently.

iRacing has slapped me in the face. Hard.

My times are so far off the pace at all of the tracks and classes that I've tried that it's not even funny. It took many many sessions of just lapping the ridiculous little Solstice around Laguna Seca to even be in the neighborhood of competitive (and even that wasn't that close. My best race lap was a 1:51.5 when guys are running 1:48's).

That being said, I'm in absolute heaven. With every lap I drive, I get better. As I get better, I seem to keep my nose clean just a bit more. What I'm regretting now are the sessions I ran a year ago when it first came out. The talent level wasn't quite the same, so my SR went up a bit and my Oval went up one notch from Rookie. Now I'm put in fields where I seem to be the slowest one there over and over.

The fact that I'm frequently the slowest guy on the track and I'm STILL having a blast speaks volumes. When I first tried it last year, I had to wait 2 hours to find a race. Now it seems the races are every hour, and with several series to choose from, I can almost always do something that "counts". Qual one time, a time trial 10 minutes later, practice after that, a race shortly after that, another TT in another class, etc.

Being able to find buddies in practice servers and really work on lines helps a ton. The forums are filled with setup posts and informative things, as well.

Honestly, at this point, I can't think of a reason to drive anything else. The level of competition is amazing, it's clean racing, and you have almost every type of car to choose from. I actually went and got every car and every track just to get seat time in the various rides.

My addiction is growing by the day. Here's to hoping my lap times go down appropriately. Kneebon making it to pro series, that's impressive man. I bow down to you

Im glad you like it now. Try the Spec Racer out, i think you will love it, you just have to get the whole brake with a 1/4 throttle down (which they do in real life in those cars)

Yeah im in the Pro series right now, but my main goal is to make it to the Drivers Cup. Its going to be hard to be in the top 50 in points, but that is my main goal now.

Definitely a hardcore racing sim guy--I do most of the racing reviews for this site.

But outside of a few games, I have a "circle of friends" that I race with, if you will. The competition level hasn't nearly been as good as it has with iRacing. I just spent my entire lunch hour just lapping the silly little Rookie Legend around Lanier to get better vehicle control and improve my lap time.

The SRF has been kicking my ***. Period.

I'll have to really play with the 1/4 throttle technique. I'm betting that's the trick that I've been searching for. I lose the rear of the car way too much, unless I brake in a perfectly straight line and way too early. Guys literally run me over if I brake that early, so the trail braking/never releasing the throttle completely must be the meal ticket.

                              Thanks!

For online racing on the PC would this be one of my top options?

I am hesitant about this, thinking as soon as i tocuh it i wont like it.

This is cheaper then NR2003 and made for playing online.

I have Nascar simracing that has no online anymore.
