Yeah for all of the German style personalities, Perez really adds a lot of excitement. I really hope he finds his way through F1, he's quickly becoming my favorite pilot.

    Spoiler

As for the other two races, I haven't watched NASCAR in years now and I just can't get pumped up for Indianapolis. American Auto Racing really isn't in its strongest state right now.

They make racing at Monaco look so damn easy. Then when I fire up F1 2012, well.... Lolol

I'd say quite the opposite. Open wheel racing will probably never be what it used to be, but with the new car last year, I've seen many an enjoyable race, which I could not say for much of the late 2000's. The Gen 6 car in NASCAR has helped bring that car back to performances seen pre-COT.

The Indy 500 is always such a kill-joy. To me, it is probably the worst track on the circuit. I enjoy it for what it is, but the racing is pretty bland and it's pretty much full-throttle racing.

          EDIT: Wow, Viso stalled...

They set the record for lead changes last year and broke it this year. There is lots of good racing out there now. Like I said, the new Indycar changed things last year. Same could be said about Daytona; it's just full throttle and winner is usually right place, right time, right equipment. This race has been pretty fun to watch, and there wasn't rain to ruin it for a change.

Edit: And now for the one thing Indycar does need: green-white-checkers... but now I'll let it slide if it gives Kanaan his first win. Took damn long enough.

I don't really enjoy Talladega/Daytona, either. They may produce good finishes, but the majority of the race is pretty meaningless (aside from staying out of accidents) until the final laps. There's a lot of lead changes, as is the case with Indy, but the lead changes feel hollow when they get passed right back a lap later with others following their draft.

In any case, I have enjoyed the IRL this year. Pretty good racing all around. Last year was good, too.

Anyways, good to see Kanaan finally get a win in the 500. Too bad it was a bit anticlimactic finishing under caution due to Dario's wreck.

It's good to see Kanaan finally win the 500. I wish Indy had at least 1 green-white-checkered attempt though.

You don't want guys potentially running out of fuel because they add extra laps though.

Agree on Kanaan though, awesome driving on the restart. He won the first IndyCar race I ever watched - Michigan in 1999

I knew when Perez got behind Raikkonen that something bad would happen. It actually took a lot longer than I thought. Suddenly I didn't find him amusing today. I was glad to see his car konk out on him at the end. Couldn't believe Raikkonen got from 16th to 10th as quickly as he did at the end. I thought his streak was surely over.

Pretty sure Indycars could run out of fuel as is in the middle of the race, GWC or not. They refuel the cars. Maybe you are thinking of Formula 1?

Of course but if they strategise for 200 laps worth of fuel, and they are on fumes at the end, adding extra laps on always seems unfair.

I like GWC finishes in general but not at Indy or on road courses.

It's not like they would just decide with 50 laps to go, "Hey guys, we're going to have a GWC this year." Strategies would change. They'd adapt just like NASCAR. 10 years ago, Cup races didn't go over the scheduled distances. Drivers and teams had to change. It's time IndyCar did as well. Not to mention, they already have the ability to conserve fuel right on their steering wheels.

The scheduled distance is just that for a reason though. In an ideal world there would be no GWCs but it does add some excitement.

I once proposed that all caution laps wouldn't count and that you would get 500 miles (or however many) of actual racing. That was an unpopular opinion to say the least, but I think it would really liven up the races and give television the opportunity to move their commercials around.
