A small(and crude) video I put together of the new Daytona International(night version), from iRacing.

That song was just playing in the background as white noise. I recorded it off screen, and didn't even think about that music playing. Hence the "crude" remark(lol) I wasn't about to go back and re-record it=D

Anyone race the Daytona 2.4 Grand-AM today?

Went in really unhappy with my setup, really unpredictable in some corners and had to keep fighting it.

Highlight of my race was entering the 1st round of pit stops in 4th or 5th (Started 20th but left from the pits to avoid carnage), and exiting the pits theres some rumble strips that can do damage so of course I hit the last set which tore my left tires up. Had to pit to get a new set, dropped to 10th-12th, but worked my way back up to 4th despite the cut tires and 2 half spins.

Kid who talked ALL the time ended the race with over 100 incident points.

Those rumble strips killed my tires during practice leaving the pits... i was planning on racing the 2.4 and last night my gf starts feeling really sick and i ended up spending the morning taking her to the doctors

I had a really good setup for the race and was hoping to better my last yrs 2nd place finish.

              Re: iRacing after 2+ years

More things coming for iRacing. Looking forward to the grill tape. Source iRacerstuff.com

Ghosting/Lag Drafting Not Fixed?: The ghosting advantage is gone. There were two different bugs however: ghosting and warping with ghosting. Now the ghosting part has been mitigated. The one that’s left allows a bigger push when the latency/quality of the lead cars connection is fluctuating. One way to tell is the lead car appears to have it’s rear bumper jacked up when the trailing car gives a big push. iRacing is working on a solution for that also. 2/18

Daytona Graphics Bug Fix Coming: A bug has been found and fixed by iRacing to fix translucent catch fences at night tracks and other disappearing objects. This fix will be rolled out with the next code update. 2/18

Grille Tape Coming “Soon”?: Hearing that grille tape adjustments (like in NR2003) will be added in the next build. Grille tape would let drivers add or remove tape during a pit stop. Not sure if it would be the same as NR2003 where you could add a percentage in increments of 5, or a different type of system. 2/17

More Changes Coming to Two-Car Tango?: Hearing that iRacing may make more changes to the drafting and engine cooling at Superspeedways. Possibly some extra speed and the ability to push even longer may be in the works. Look for any changes early next week after this weekend’s NASCAR practice/shootout before the iRacing Daytona 500 next weekend. 2/17

Ran one of the official Class A races at Daytona last night. Started 6th and patiently worked my way to the lead, and then.

Anybody else running the Daytona 500 in 5 minutes? I just qualified with a time of 47.809 seconds. I think that should net me a top 10 starting spot.

did you end up racing the 500 the other night? i had a chance to qual last night and ran a 47.7xx. I was able to hit high 47. 6's in testing but my line in qual wasnt too smooth and lost a bit coming outta the last turn.

Im not sure if ill be able to race the 500 tonight as we are getting nailed with a snow storm and may get stuck working. best of luck to those who do race it.

                      Re: iRacing after 2+ years

I ran in one of the rookie/D class splits, i think it was a middle of the road split but i can't remember off the top of my head. Qualified 12th with a 47.9xx which was better than i thought i would do.

First caution flew 2 seconds after the green dropped. Ended up dodging the first (8?) wrecks running 10th. Literally had 5 green flag laps in the first 20-30 laps or so of the race, mostly riding under caution. So with like 170 to go we had roughly 29 cars left, 19 on the lead lap, i was still rolling around in 10th at the back of the lead pack, another caution so we made the first pit stops.

So about 45 laps in now and we get a green run of maybe 10 laps when one of the drivers running -45 laps down decided to make the lead pack split him and he took out 8 of the top 10 in turn 3, luckily being the R/D split we got a free reset so most of us did and stayed in the top 15. (2nd caution that this guy caused so people started yelling at him and he admitted it was his first race/time on the track)

So restarted again cruising along by myself, thought it would be safer, and the same guy again loses it in 4 and spins low. I assumed he'd hold the brakes but no he bounces it off the pit wall and across the grass and i clipped him in the tri-oval and my engine went poof. I eventually got DQ'd for ignoring my black flag lol. I was still able to run at like 170 but i guess i was leaking something!

So i finished 17th -140 laps or something ridiculous. the guy that was the cause of my engine trouble and at least 2 more wrecks ended up finishing in the top 10 because he was still running but -45 laps.

I watched the last 80 laps of my split where only 8 cars were on the track (only 8 left for the last about 70-80 laps) the leader was 2 laps ahead of anyone else with 2nd place being -2, 3rd being -6, etc. Total laps under caution for the race were 58, and i believe it took almost 4 hours to complete.

So overall it was fun for me, i expected to be knocked out on lap 1, it was my first big event race as i just joined a couple weeks ago. I am however not new to sims, i played nr2k3 all the time, still have it somewhere. Also owned all the other pappy/ea games on pc. Hopefully the next big event i'll have my C license or higher (at a D 3.89 atm) so i should be clear to run the trucks soon, which is what i joined to race in the first place.

Now if i could just get a little faster so i wouldn't be stuck as a 5-10th place driver every race

is anyone planning on racing in the Grand-Am premiere series? the first race is this weekend at daytona 144 mins long and is also part of the North American Endurance Championship just like the rl grand am series. Any roadies here or mainly oval racers ?

I plan on racing it, this time without cutting my tires out of the pit

I just learned about iRacing and I think I'm becoming hooked...I can't stop looking at videos.

It just looks intimidating and expensive(that's the biggest issue as I know I need a graphics card and a whee/Pedal set to go along with the subscription), but I am interested in trying it eventually. How steep is the learning curve and would any of you guys recommend this to someone who's becoming a little more interested in racing(NASCAR primarily) but doesn't necessarily have background in it?

I just joined on the 3 for 1 promotion. I'm a fan of F1, ALMS, Ect.. but I think the oval racing on Iracing is fun and a little easier of a learning curve then coming from say Forza 3 or 4. The beginner Oval car is a little temperamental, very easy to spin if you tap the break, and I haven't quite got the hang of the MX-5 on the road side of things. Lime Rock is a tough little track to start out on.

I've only been playing again for about 3 days so I'd say the learning curve for the beginner cars will probably be a week or two to actually feel comfortable with it. But as someone with very little Nascar background I think the learning curve isn't too steep to get up to speed and finish in the top 5.

Thanks for the info. I used to watch racing all the time when I was a kid, but grew out of that phase when I started playing baseball, basketball, and football(and my pops wouldn't let me do BMX bike riding nor would he let me get a go-kart like my homeboy had).

I just recently started watching it again and began looking for a NASCAR/racing game...I had Forza for the 360, but it got the RROD a few years ago. I've been watching a few races and iRacing just looks so realistic, and I love the fact that the guys who race are passionate about it and refer to it as a simulation and not a video game.

Another question...to run the game do you absolutely need an updated graphics card? Or can you just race with sub-par graphics? And do you recommend racing without a wheel/pedal set? (I'm really itching to race and learn more about motorsports)

I'm just worried that if I make an investment in the game and the needed accesories, that it'll begin to fall off and collect dust.
