I got my A licence on oval about 2 months after I started, but I have an awful habit of just jumping on and racing without much practice!

As you all know that means it's very hit and miss as to whether you gain SR or not (usually not).

I need a car to concentrate on properly. I'm thinking of either going full time in Class B Oval or HPD, maybe Riley on the road side.

I'm a bit of a wheel noob though as my first year of iRacing was done on a controller. This is why much more practice is needed now!

      Seconded.

The National Series Impala (old Nationwide car) is a very fun series as well. It's a great one to do as the car isn't massively fast so it's good for building up to trucks, N.Wide or Cup cars

Maybe it's just me, but every National Series race I ran was a wreck fest. Isn't that series still without yellow flags? They seemed to be like a step above the Street Stock, with shorter races and crazy drivers in my limited experience.

          Re: iRacing after 2+ years

I did end up buying the McLaren since I was interested in the multiclass racing. I raced in the GT Challenge (vs. the Ford GTs and the faster Corvettes) this week at Road Atlanta and had a lot of fun. I raced it quite a bit and had few incidents, so I fast-tracked to get my A license on the road side, as well (I got my MPR by doing some IRL time trails at Sonoma). I wasn't all that fast, lapping in the 1:22-1:24 range (more 1:22s by the end of the week), but I typically finished decently just by staying on the track and having others spin/wreck out.

With that being said, I don't have a lot of a desire to run the Williams F1 car, so I don't anticipate using my A class license any time soon.

There is no doubt that the quality of the racing is much better than the Mazda Cup now. I enjoyed racing there, but it did get quite annoying getting wrecked out of a decent portion of the races. Now, if I get any incidents, it's usually off-tracks with the occasional spin. I think I only had contact with another car once this week at Road America in quite a few races (I did a marathon of races on Friday, haha). I love the race length, too (45 minutes).

Since the GT Challenge is being folded into the Grand Am Series next season, I plan on trying to run that one full-time. I also am having a lot of fun with the NASCAR iRacing Series on the oval side, which emulates the NSCS schedule with 50% race distances.

Yeah, it's D-class, so it has no yellows. The cars are fun to drive, but the races can be pretty hazardous at times, especially because of no yellows. I haven't raced there much lately.

So, as a guy with no racing experience whatsoever, I decided to give iRacing a try...and man it's quite an experience learning how to control these cars. I've played multiple racing games, but this simulator is challenging...and I'm enjoying learning everything I can about these cars, how they react, and racing in general...I think I'm becoming more of a racing fan after trying this.

I can honestly say that i won't be hopping in any races anytime soon, however

I might check that out as well...while iRacing is fun...it is one of the most frustrating gaming/simulation experiences ever. I finally fixed my spin out problems to an extent, but when I get an good run going...someone just smashes into me...my SR is HORRIBLE, man...LOL

What are your guys' names on iRacing? James Frizzell here.

I might have to try Race 07. I had downloaded the demo in the past (I believe it was at Brands Hatch) and it was fun.

BTW, guys, iRacing just offered a deal through the end of the month which gives you a two-year subscription for $99. Might want to take that as I don't think you're going to be able to renew any cheaper than that.

Apparently, they released the Lotus 49 today, as well. I am very tempted to try it out, but I'm not sure if I want to fork over the cash considering I already need to buy some tracks for the Cup Series and the Grand-Am races I want to do next season.

Yeah, I'm going to do the two year thing. The thing is, I don't race that often during baseball season since I go to a number of games. However I don't think I can pass this up.

And the Lotus 49 after all of these years? Wow...
