    Re: iRacing after 2+ years

Yea my bad Chaos, confused you two somehow. And I figured bristol was a disaster on here, but I'd still love to race it.

Did another trial at Iowa last night. The good is my split 2 got faster and faster and I stayed consistent even on lap 68s tires I was within. 1 of my fastest time which was about. 4 or 5 faster than my previous best. The bad is I never got closer than. 2 in spilt 1. It's like I completely forgot how to handle turns 1 and 2. I'm going to blame the lack of sleep.

I'll go again tonight. If I can nail both splits down, those 23.5s will be a lot more prevalent for me. I still ran a few despite how poorly I was running split 1 all night. All I did was backup turn 3 and found a marker to help me get on the throttle mid turn that brought me right up to the wall out of 4 on a smooth, but so much faster line.

If I can get both splits down tonight I'll be confident to race again. Right now I'm not feeling it just yet.

Well mixed reviews on running the 5 AM race. I was doing great. I was as high as 4th after starting from the pits to ride around a bit. Car got into me that had wrecked not paying attention early that cost me 4x, but no real damage. Had a poor restart with about 20 to go that started costing me. Then with about 10-15 to go, a car slid up in front of me out of 1 and I had to slow down quick and lost it. My spotter said he was very clear, though, so probably just was too cautious there. Finished 16th one lap down so overall I'd say a decent experience. Lots of flashing from Europeans though and some of them just don't understand oval racing (and admitted it on the radio). Quite a few of them could drive well, and it was Pocono which has some road turns, but plenty of them that I wondered what were they thinking.

I can't wait for Michigan now. Getting some real banking and I should be able to drive it as well as I can at Iowa with the K&N car.

My fastest lap was #71 just before I had my accident. I just do fixeds for now, no open setups. I'll probably research setups this fall/winter when I get a longer membership.

I'd do something for Iowa too. I like driving that car and need some more practice to nail my line before I do another one of those.

So I was sitting here this fine Saturday afternoon and thought to myself, "Hey, I know, I should buy the truck and go run a Class C Fixed race."

            Spoiler

            Spoiler

Didn't have any speed after this and just drove around in back the rest of the way. Finished 12th out of 19.

I don't know if anyone other than Doc is running trucks this week, but here's a qual lap I just did.

It's a 58.359. No clue if shifting is faster. Probably not, but here I shifted in turn one but not in turn three.

                Re: iRacing after 2+ years

I've "tried" driving trucks is a better description. Some of what I learned in the Cup car bright and early this morning I can probably put to use in the trucks. My best lap is a high 58. If I run at all tonight it'll be the 9:15 so I might get one or two in tomorrow and then another Iowa race. Next week will be slow for me as I will only really have the K&N car at Gateway. I may make it a testing week for Michigan and build up my safety rating in time trials. I'd like to be at B license before I go on a bit of a break for football season.

Seems like you have a much better time than I do at getting out of the turns. It's an adventure for me most laps out of 1, often out of 3, and occasionally out of 2. Moreso in the car, but I have had my fair share of shaky moments in the truck. That looked so smooth.

Experienced the lovely areopush last night. I was coming out of 4 onto the straightaway and felt like I had my car angled properly, so I got into the gas; however my car said, nope, and just went up the track into the wall. This happened on lap 6, which made for a long 34 remaining laps.

Did some more laps(49) at Iowa in the K&H. Still keep getting fast and fast in split 2, still can't nail down split 1 anymore. Don't know what the heck has happened to me. Good thing is I am getting 23.5's still despite my split 1 constantly being .3+ off pace of what I was doing the other night. Going to keep at it. Feeling better now that the 23.5 and 23.6's are more consistent despite such a poor 1st split. If I can get my 1st split back to where it was, maybe the 23.3 would become something I can do more and more of through a 50 lap race.

Just ran 3rd in the top split. Still not happy with my lap times haha, specifically split 1. I'm just going to have to live with the fact that first night may have been an anomaly or the weather in that time trial was a lot better and I was just sucking it up in split 2.

I'm all over the place in the Gen6 car all around Pocono. I think all my practice in that thing helped with the truck. The truck set isn't nearly as loose so it's easier to just get on the gas and go.

Gen6 car? That happened to me at Indy last week. Thankfully I got lucky with pit stops/fuel usage and still pulled out a nice finish, but the car wasn't fast or fun to drive at all.

                          Congrats on the nice finish.

As for not being happy with lap times, I don't think anyone ever is. Always room for improvement, no matter who you are.

Just had a fun race at Iowa. One thing I wish I could figure out is connection problems. After the race, the leader said I was flashing. It was on US server and my ping was low and quality was 99-100. They were from Europe and had 150+ for ping. I never saw them flash so I can't ever figure out who actually has connection problems.

Started 2nd, leader held way back on the restart so I had to get out of the gas and ended up 3rd. Passed 3rd place pretty easily. Once we got to lap traffic I was able to get to 1st and lead 10 laps. Then the car just got tight on me from 30 on and I ended up in 2nd by over 2 seconds. His pole time was over a tenth faster than my fastest lap so I know he can run faster than me so I'll take a 2nd. Got me a chunk of SR and above 1500 on iRating for the first time.

Hopefully Gateway next week as fun to drive as Iowa and maybe I can pick up a win.

Nice Doc. I don't know about your race, but the one I finished 3rd in I started 3rd despite my 23.3 qualifying time. 1st had a 23.15x and 2nd had a 23.3xx that beat out my 23.35x barely. I kept up with them the first near 20 laps ad then I caught part of the wall for a 2x and lost my speed and from then on I never stood a chance. They were already so fast, but that killed my car. I was lucky to finish 3rd because the guy in 4th was near gaining on me big time. He was near 12 seconds back near the halfway point and climbed through the positions and finished 2 seconds behind me.

Finishing 3rd gave me near 100 IR, so now I sit at the highest I've ever been with a 1714 I believe it is. Don't know if I am ready to be that close to 2000. The guy that won that race was only a C license, but had 540 career races and was an A at one point. He was experienced and his iRating was like twice mine. I am pretty sure it was over 3000 and 2nd's was also like 2500. So I'll take finishing behind those two.

Just ran a 23.174 to qualify for.... 5th. Ugh, this race might be a little difficult if we're all this fast.

That might have been the worst race I've ever been in. Going into the first turn of the race the dude behind me just flat out spins me like he's a cop. Then once I get back on the track 2 cars ahead of me just slam into each other, bounce up and sandwich me into the wall. I went 10.5 laps. My SR is going to go way down once that one finishes.

Races like that just make me not want to play the game man. My incidents/race used to be near a 2 flat. Now it's going to be around a 3.7 after that race. Ever since joining the top split races it seems like I get wrecked in even dumber ways. In rookie at least I understood half the people didn't have a clue how to race. Some of the wrecks I get involved in now make me shake my head because it's like people don't even see there are other cars on the track.

To avoid a triple post, I'll edit this. I raced the 1:45 Iowa race also. Started 2nd, finished 3rd. I did fall back to 4th and trailed the last 10 or more laps. My fast laps were much faster than his, I just was inconsistent. Something clicked though and the last bit of the race I was right on him as I was quicker. However, every time I had a run out of a turn he slid up and blocked and forced me to just about coast to avoid contact. I took it as racing and didn't get mad. But on the last lap I pushed it and didn't just coast him, I pushed inside the last lap and we went 2 wide and on turns 3 and 4 I maybe got too aggressive and we rubbed sides. Enough for a 2x, but I never felt my car really jerk or anything. He got upset, I took 3rd, he still took 4th.

I felt kinda bad. I was aggressive since it was the last turn of the race. I came up just a bit on him, but he sill had a ton of room to move up to avoid me as we were exiting the turn. I might upload it later tonight when I'm back on the pc and see if you guys think I was maybe too aggressive in it and shouldn't push it in the future like I did.
