Re: iRacing after 2+ years
I'm thinking of buying the Carb Cup cars to get some practice in them. I'm still in the midst of just trying everything while also trying for the D4.0. As its rookie, should I expect many wrecks? Or should I just hold off on those cars until I race an actual series with them?“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
4th of 22 in the top split at Iowa in the National series. Led 9 laps. Partly due to lapped cars taking out the leaders. I still would have finished top 10 but it was fun being out front again. I kinda like my home track. No incidents. Great run overall.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
That was a pretty fun race since that wreck happened a good ways in front of me. Only thing that held me was a pack of 3 lapped cars that just would not quit racing. The guy that ended up winning caught up to me and was able to get around them better than I could. I wasted a good 5 or 6 laps getting around them. Could have been 3rd, maybe 2nd, if not for them. They were clean racers at least.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Yea, I was behind them the last 5 laps or so and couldn't get around them safely enough once I took 5th place so I just defended my spot and settled for 5th. Didn't realize that was you in the race. I might have pushed harder for 4th those last 5 if I did“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Finally had a chance to try my new T300RS tonight and boy is it a change. Love the feel of the wheel and FFB, but I'm spinning like crazy and am all over the place with this thing. Going to take some getting used to, that's for sure.Comment

Keep in mind you only need a C license to run NiS (Gen 6).Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
So I'm not saying this is only the wheel, maybe I figured something out, but after running probably 100+ laps at Pocono in the Gen6 and only having 4 or 5 laps faster than a 55.9 and only two faster than 55.8, I just did the below in a practice session with my new wheel. Not quick compared to the fast guys, but it's always fun to find some more speed.
I'm definitely going to need some more practice before I feel comfortable in a race. I ove correct quite a bit as I'm not used to the precision of the T300 yet, which typically ends with me bouncing off the wall.

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
I did some SK races yesterday and instead of downloading a setup, I made my own. It felt pretty good and I was able to hold it together in the races, and I was a good bit faster than some people, but the winner of the last race just pure smoked the field. He lapped wvwryone, but 2nd place I believe and I felt I was running some good laps. Of course I still finished 8th of like 14 because at the start I fell back to like 12th if I remember correctly and then worked my way back up, but when I was near him after being lapped I could keep up qith him and kinda catch him through turns, but he had so much more speed on the straights even though it seemed we both went full throttle at the same time.
I asked him what setup he was using and he said something about it being fixed? I wish I had his setup though. I know his skill also is a big part of it, but the speed his car was reaching on the straights was just crazy quick compared to my car. I definitely had my car looser and handled it better to be right with him through turns which was nice to have, but I was just slower on the straights which was kinda the case with everyone. I'd catch everyone cornering and make most my passes there and then have to fight on the straights to not give up any time.
Anyone have an idea of what can be tweaked to give more speed? This is my first time ever messing with one myself.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Sorry. Not saying it isn't a nice time, it is, but I was a full second off the leader at the race I ran a few days ago. Keep in mind, those are practice laps without any other cars around. I think my fast race lap Tuesday was a 56.0xx.
I know you said it sounds like you guys are getting on the gas at the same time, but keep in mind you have lag and travel time to/from the server to deal with. A tenth of a second is pretty huge when you're talking about 20 second laps. The only way to really know is to use telemetry or to get a replay from their machine and look at where they're really getting back on the gas.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Ran a time trial at Iowa in the Impala. I hadn't run there since our race together. Using iSpeed I was able to nail down a 23.301 lap time. However the problem is that I couldn't get close to it again. My next best lap was a 23.55x and most were around 23.6 and 23.7. I can keep consistent through the first split, but I am wild in the 2nd.
I think I'm too scared of hitting the wall since it's a strange angle, at least in my opinion out of turn 4. So I end up under driving the corner and coming out too slow. I can't seem to get my turn in on 3 down either. The whole 2nd split is just difficult for me.
I know part of it is me still learning a lot about it all. I've never oval raced before iRacing. Always was a road racer. So the cars, tracks, and tricks are all new to me. I'll keep at it this weekend with iSpeed to try and get it down better. Looking at some other fast laps it seems they brake around 30% and I start a hair later and go around 40%. I thought maybe that was killing my split 2, and maybe it is, but in split 1 it's also like that and I'm .003 off of the fastest saved lap of the season.
So I think I need to work on my turn in at 3 and maybe a better angle at the apex can set me up for a better exit out of turn 4 with a lot more speed.
I might upload a replay of me doing some laps and see if you guys have any pointers. I recorded the whole time trial.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
You probably won't be able to keep up the 23.3 for awhile. I had the same problem. I ran two in the 3's, but most of my laps are in the 5's. I'm not consistent enough with the braking points there is my problem. But also, in a practice, you should have tire wear so it's liable to go downhill after your best lap.
But turn 4 is mixed for me. I find it easier because you go into the trioval so you have a lot more space, but the car gets tighter there if you accelerate too soon. You also tend to keep it slower in turn 1 and 2 so you can get away with a little more there.
It's also difficult to use iSpeed at times. Copying someone else's every move isn't always comfortable or feasible. There are some I look at and they are going 10 mph faster than me into the turn. When it says no series, I never know if it is an open setup, in which case they have more car control, or are they just hitting their marks perfectly.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Yea the .301 was on fresh tires. I really just want to be able to get. 5 consistent and I'll be happy. I made sure the guy was running the national series and we run nearly a clone line, that's why I think I can follow his inputs closer. Right now I've got it comparing my. 301 to all my later runs to see what I'm doing different.
It's mostly me being conservative out of 4 it looks like. I just struggle with it for some reason.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”
