Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Are you getting loose into turn 1? The transition (or a bump, I'm not sure which) can really upset the car there. Haven't tried the Camaro there, but I've found in the Gen6 it's easier to stay a little higher on entry than I might normally and I don't get as loose.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Just finished up another class A race at Charlotte. Went a little better this time as I finished in 4th, even though I ended up flying through the infield again.
I actually started on pole because some fast guys didn't qualify, but I ended up dropping back to 7th after just a few laps. I don't seem to push hard enough on fresh tires, but that might be a positive because I was definitely faster on the long runs.
One thing I noticed, and I've seen this in streams, is that I might need to try not filling the tank all the way when I can make the end without doing so.
There was one guy I pulled away from on our first 30 lap green flag run, buit he managed to pull away from me slightly and stay there on our second 30+ lap run that ended the race. Maybe I burned my tires up too much the second run, or maybe he just did on the first run, but I know I probably had a ton of gas left at the end compared to him, and I'm wondering how big of a difference that makes. Guess I'll need to try it in practice. EDIT: Just noticed I had damage from my trip across the grass. Maybe that's why.
Here's the race.

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Changing lines definitely helped a bit. There is a line on the track I was able to use. So that led to a **** show of a race this morning. Started 11th of 13th, passed several cars and felt good. Caution about 15 laps in so I stay out.
My car feels great. I get up to 2nd by not pitting and on the restart, the leader just pulls up in front of me and stops. He said his screen went blank... yea. So minor damage but the 4x hurt and I got penalized for passing the pace car because I went on green and caution didn't pop up until I was in turn 2. Even creeping along the pace car never caught up before pit road opened so got screwed there. Turns out, that penalty can only be taken under green. Got caught speeding when I took the penalty and wound up 3 laps down. Luckily the rest of the field was a mess so I was still the first lap down car and got back 2 laps and finished 6th. Probably could have contended for 4th or 5th had that not happened.
And I'm definitely going to move into open setups if I can. Just tried to run the trucks at Charlotte and my tires were burning up. But slowing down just dropped be backwards. Finished 10th or so, but those tires did not feel like they would last for a whole green flag run. Even if they said they were 95%+, they sure didn't feel like it.Last edited by Redacted01; 10-11-2015, 08:54 AM.Comment

I know you said you dropped backwards when you took it easy, but when you get in the longer open races, the key will be how you do later in the run. So even though you dropped back at the beginning, you might be there at the end. For example, during our first longish green flag run in my race last night, I made up/pulled away anywhere from 2-5 seconds in 19 laps on 4 cars that were in front of me because they burned their tires up.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
I think the truck race is just too short for it. Part of it is guys were probably just faster than me, so I wasn't go to finish top 5, but just felt like no one else had the same problems, or maybe they would have come to me later. They were smoking for me in the turns.
Depending on if I decide to try and survive in the fixed C race tonight, I may instead work on an open car setup (Camaro) and get that race in tomorrow afternoon.
And I discovered I need some practice on setups. This one just got way too loose under race conditions.Last edited by Redacted01; 10-11-2015, 07:57 PM.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
I placed 1st twice today in a fixed the fixed truck race. The tire falloff in those races was just how I thought it should be. I know one truck race went green all the way and by lap 25 you really had to have throttle control.

Nice! Looks like you're really enjoying those C fixed races today.
In other news, qualifying for NiS tonight didn't go so great. Probably my worst qual yet. Screwed up turn 1 my first lap, and turn 3 my second. Ended up with a .6, which after running a .2 earlier today in practice doesn't feel so great. Ah well, it's a long race so I'll have plenty of time to move forward, just hope I don't get caught in something due to track position.
Edit: Starting 12th as the 2 car tonight. Quite a change from starting 2nd as the 19 car last week.Last edited by Chaos81; 10-11-2015, 09:05 PM.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
So close to my first NiS victory. Gap was .215 at the end. Another few laps and I probably would have had him as his tires definitely seemed to wear out at the end. Two green flag stops in this one, and it was another race where I just reeled guys in on the long runs. Loving this build.
Just wish I was able to record it.

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Yeah, truck races might be too short for tire wear to really play if you get a couple cautions. Might just have to go for it. I got beat badly in the turns early in my Charlotte races, but was able to reel guys back in as they burned their tires off.

Yeah I seem to do better with the trucks than with the B car. I just can't find the sweet spot with the B car. Kinda depressing actually. Lol. I really wanna run the B car so it can prepare me more for the A car. I guess I can try open setups but then I would be behind the 8 ball with my setup knowledge not being as well as others.

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
I wasn't able to race last week, but I did race an A Fixed race last night and am about to run NiS tonight. I think Kansas on iRacing is fun to drive solo, but frustrating to race on due to the difficulty of passing.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Well, I had the lead with 10 to go and decided to pit instead of staying out, which in retrospect was a bad choice. I restarted 8th with fresh tires and worked my way up to 4th pretty quickly, but then stupidity started and I fell back to 6th over the last couple laps trying to avoid a couple wrecks. Oh, well.
I grabbed the lead with 20 to go as I got a 12.6 second pit stop to come out 1st (I came into the pits 3rd). I was surprisingly able to hold off the guys behind me for the next 10 laps, though I was driving the car really hard and I think my tires were wearing and the guy in 2nd was almost assuredly going to pass me.
A 6th place finish is great, but it would have been nice to nab my first top 5 finish of the year. Oh, well. That's the closest I've ever came to winning one of these things.
The fastest guy throughout the race won, so all is fair. I ran 6th-10th most of the race, anyways.Last edited by superjames1992; 10-15-2015, 10:47 PM.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
That's awesome, James. I think I'd probably wreck out of excitement if I was leading a top split race that late.
I'm not sure I'm going to get in a NiS race at Kansas this week. Work has been kicking my butt and I haven't had any time to practice. Might get in a Class A race for participation credits, but we'll see.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Between the stress of Blue Jays games and just being tired from work, I'm in the same boat. I did some practice on Monday night and got a feel for what I could do in a fixed race, but haven't spent any time with a setup to try open. Maybe this weekend will be quiet and I can try and do a B-series open and maybe the C-series open on Sunday morning if I'm comfortable.Comment
